Nokia developers on the Nokia/Windows Phone 7 deal

One of the many objections Nokia fanatics have about Nokia’s move to Windows Phone 7 is the loss if Symbian developers to the company, as its Qt cross-platform language will not make it to Windows Phone 7.

From the above it is clear that developers are willing to move to any platform that will make them money, so Nokia, due to its scale, should retain as many and even more developers after its Windows Phone 7 transition as before.

The developers will care as they see continued support and adoption for the platform. Best in class dev tools will help alot too.

Best in class tools is a don't care – it's all about following the money for developers (well, for sccessful developers).

Being able to quickly develop or port applications is definitely a consideration for developers. Besides, good luck getting your app found in the iTunes or Android marketplace pile of crap apps.

MSFT does have easy to use tools. BUT: I'd rather have tools that allow smooth list scrolling (still a big issue – no elegant solution like on iPhone). If I want to create cutting-edge apps and games – WP7's tools don't allow it (cutting-edge compared to iPhone). I will wait till Mix and move to another platform if they don't get things right.

For the first time HTC is now ahead of Nokia on the low end phones in Asia. it's not just the smartphones that Nokia is hurting in it's now the low end devices. Like MS with WP7 Nokia needs to move fast.
