Nokia Lumia 800 seeing iPhone 4S level demand on some Danish carriers

Early reports have rolled in regarding the performance of the Nokia Lumia 800, recently launched in Denmark, and overall its all pretty good.

Some retailers have seen levels of demand similar to the iPhone 4S.

“We have since Friday experienced the same demand, as shown by the introduction of the iPhone 4S. Lumia 800 has sold more than three times as much as number two on our sales charts, “Morten Steen Jensen, purchasing manager at TDC, Denmark’s largest telecom company, told Mobilsiden.dk. The TDC chief says that one third of customers have chosen a Lumia in either pink or blue, rather than the black variety

“Lumia 800 sales is not comparable with the iPhone 4S, but it mixes with the mobiles that sell best on the market currently, it has also sold better than the N8 and N9 at launch, and it also sells better than other manufacturers do when there’s a new product, “says sales director Michael Bech from Telia.

At Telia is Lumia 800 is right now second only to the iPhone on their sales charts.

Telenor also expresses satisfaction with initial sales of Nokia’s newest smartphone, but expects that sales only really takes off from this week.

Probably the least hyped is the carrier 3 Denmark.

“At 3 we did not experience “iPhone hype” but customer feedback is that customers faced with the Lumia 800 reports the same as with Apple’s products – high usability and good design. Our experience is that it is our Nokia customer base, which typically goes after Lumia 800 and thereby upgrade from their old Nokia mobile. But we have high hopes for Windows Phone in general and believe that there will be slowly built up a faithful Windows fan base when the Danes discover how complete and user friendly it is, “says Mette Christiansen from 3′s PR department.

Nokia’s financial reports in 2 days is sure to be interesting, especially due to rapidly dropping Symbian sales, but if reports like this continue to come in I suspect Nokia will be all right in the end.

Thank God that for the ones where it doesn’t sell as well as the iPhone 4S they are still happy it’s a top seller. I get so tired of people expecting 10 million sales in a week for an unknown platform, really, a top 1-3 spot on a carrier is good enough to see the phones are doing well.

This is pretty great news, I’m really happy to see this thing selling so well. I think it deserves to sell well, it’s a great OS with stellar hardware. I actually just saw somebody at my school just now with a samsung Focus S and asked him about it. He loved it, no hangs, lags, anything. Perhaps Microsoft can pull this off afterall, and Nokia too of course.

Design doesn’t have shit to do with it. If you make a phone with a new, unknown platform it doesn’t magically start selling. First of all the customers needs to even know that the phone exists and most people have never heard of HTC or Samsungs WP7 phones because they’ve spent pretty much zero on advertising.

I disagree, not only because I DO look at the design and style of phones before I make a purchase (you see, I don’t have a WP device yet because I don’t like the style or design of any of the HTC or Samsung devices), but because this is the first WP device, EVER, to get this much shine for it’s style by just about every tech site, and media outlet that has seen and/or reviewed the device.

The funny thing is that it still looks sweet with the free case that comes with the device. It fits so nicely you almost can’t tell it’s in a case.

I have a Lumia 800. Its realy great. I thought it would be great but in real its even better Its fast. Incredible design. The rubber protection fits like a glove, its part of the phone, like it should be. Windows Phone rocks. Realy great design. Dont’ buy iPhone or Andriod because you will be jealous on people with a Lumia like my collegues are now
