Nokia manufactures the top 8 Windows Phones by volume, and other AdDuplex June titbits

AdDuplex have released same data from their June 7th survey of their Windows Phone ad network.

Of note is that the growth in the Windows Phone market appears to be driven by Nokia’s new lower-end releases, with only the Nokia Lumia 520 and 720 growing their share (from 4.4 to 8.4% and from 1.7 to 3.7% respectively), while the other handsets, including the Nokia Lumia 920, appears to have peaked.

This underscores the Nokia’s need to continue pushing regular new releases to keep up the growth rate needed, and shows the importance of affordable handsets for the brand.

Due to Nokia’s strategy of regular new releases their share of the Windows Phone market has increased further, and has hit 83% overall and 84% for just Windows Phone 8 handsets.

Windows Phone 8 handsets are now the majority of the market, and in the USA due to the strength of the Nokia Lumia 822 and the new Nokia Lumia 928 Verizon is now the dominant Windows Phone 8 force in the country.

T-Mobile also however appears to be making gains, with 14% of the market, it seems largely due to good sales of the Nokia Lumia 521, which it appears have sold even better than the Nokia Lumia 928.

AdDuplex also notes some unannounced Windows Phone handsets floating around.

They write:

Here are the devices we have seen, but were unable to identify. This list excludes repeat sightings of devices from previous months.

NOKIA RM-955_apac_prc – seen exclusively in China. Has WXGA screen.

NOKIA LC4301 – probably a version of the test device we have seen before (P4301). Seen exclusively in US. It has an interesting firmware version – redmond_121012_123259. Runs various builds of WP 8.10.

NOKIA P5238 – probably another test device. Running 8.0 though. WXGA screen.

HTC HTCPO881 Sprint – seen in Taiwan and US (not surprising). WVGA screen.

HUAWEI H887L – seen in US and China. WVGA screen.

HUAWEI W2-T01 – this is obviously a Huawei W2 we’ve seen in multiple leaks.

Apparently it was supposed to be a higher end phone, but from what we see (only four sightings) it has a WVGA display.

SAMSUNG SGH-I187 – not sure what this is. Seen in Korea and US only 10 times. 720p screen.

As for Windows Phone 8.1, we have seen it quite a few times. Mostly on test devices and emulators, but on quite a few Lumia 920s and HTC 8Xs too. The highest build number we have seen is 8.10.12106.0.

The full report will be posted tomorrow.
