Nokia pushing out battery fix firmware update to unbranded Nokia Lumia 800s

Nokia is currently in the process of pushing out a firmware update to their Nokia Lumia 800 handsets which has already been shown to dramatically improve battery life.

The firmware, version Lumia 1600.2487.8107.12070 800, brings the following improvements:

  • Battery life and standby time are greatly improved
  • Battery icon instead of question mark
  • Improved bass when playing music
  • Softkeys will be quite visible at all brightness levels
  • Various fixes for reboots, lockups and ending calls

The update is unfortunately confirmed not to include WIFI tethering, but Nokia promises that it is on its way.

We have had reports from both the Netherlands and Italy, suggesting the push is either Europe or worldwide. Nokia says the first set of countries will receive the update today (March 28, 2012), and other countries will follow over the next four weeks at 4, 11 and 18 April 2012. Nokia has created a page listing the availability of updates by carrier, reminiscent of the old Microsoft “Where is my Update page”. That page can be found here.
