Nokia’s Arch at the 2012 Olympic mall (pictures)

We saw some renders of Nokia’s promotional arch which they planned to place at the shopping mall closest to the Olympic Village, which will likely see huge traffic in a few months.

Now MobilityDigest have some pictures from the actual installation, showing the arch does in fact live up to its sci-fi vision, and seems to be attracting plenty of interest.

i’m quite liking nokias marketing campaign. It has a gutsyness lacking from microsofts own marketing upto now. it’s like it’s shouting out to people “remember us!!? WE’RE BACK!!”.

This is amazing, it’s sure to generate some attention, not to mention it looks very modern and clean. I’m glad Nokia is on board with windows phone, they seem to be doing a much better job at marketing than Microsoft was.

Nokia has done an OUTSTANDING job marketing this phone in this area. This picture was taken in Stratford Westfield Shopping Centre in London close to the Olympic Park where the games will be held next year. Considering it is officially Europe’s largest shopping centre Nokia has definitely put MS’ money to good use. The floor that they placed this stand on is on the same floor where all the other mobile phone shops are and has an absolutely HUGE traffic flow. Phones4U, a mobile phone and contract retailer also had a stand in store with a working Lumia 800, a massive demo screen right next to a stand with the iPhone 4S. Both times I went in the store, whoever was playing with the 4S hopped on the Nokia demo stand as soon as it was available. A truly beautiful sight and the best evidence that good marketing works!

Meanwhile, a HTC branded stand right at the forefront of the store facing customers had both its screen and phone turned off. Go figure… But MS’ money is in very good hands. Trust me.

You noticed the HTC phones too? The Titan had the screen off but the Radar was a dummy. You are right though, I played with the Nokia 800 for about 3 mins and when I got off I realised there were 3 people queuing up to try the Nokia out. What got me though was that the iphone 4S came out 3 weeks ago and the only advertisment phones4u have on their window is a small poster on the bottom left, and while the HTC Titan and radar that have been arond for a month now have more posters on display than the iPhone.
It’s obvious that a director or something at phones4u sees the potential of windows phones and is advertisng the hell out of it. What’s sad though is that you don’t see the same encouragement coming from Orange, Three, Vodafone, O2 or T-Mobile. It just looks like phones4u is at it alone.

I applaud the work and effort that Nokia is making here. I just wish that it was backed up by the retail stores. On a recent visit to Bluewater (a large retail area in the UK), I saw Nokia’s large advertising presence but, of all of the retail stores, ONLY Phones4U were doing anything related to Windows Phone, and that was for both Nokia and HTC in the windows, and HTC with two stands inside the store. All of the other retailers have their glass windows covered with iPhone adverts .
