Now stream videos directly from SkyDrive to Picture Hub!

Moonman has uncovered an easy hack which will allow one to play videos uploaded to SkyDrive directly from the Picture hub, and unlike previously the UI of this is perfect and seamless, as can be seen in the video uploaded by MobiletechWorld above.

The hack involves simple changing a folder type on SkyDrive from Document to Video, and the folder will show up in the Picture Hub.

The hack gives a taste of what music integration could be like if Microsoft ever gets around to it, something which we sincerely hope is on the menu with Tango.

This has been there since the earlier Mango beta, and possibly even in NoDo. The videos just wouldn’t play back then. All MS added was support for playing the vids

no, what Microsoft added was HTML5 support. many parts of the OS (like on windows) uses parts of the IE rendering engine, therefore, when IE was updated to IE9 with support for html5 the OS basically got it too.

The stupid 100MB file upload limitation on Skydrive makes this totally useless.

A regular movie is 700MB average.
I wonder when will MS remove this unacceptable 100MB limitation.

Agreed, but then they might run into issues with music and movie companies if we were all uploading DVD rips and streaming them to our devices? This is different because it’s hosted on their servers, not our private computers.

They won’t. For cloud music there is Zune Marketplace and ZunePass. That goes for movies too. SkyDrive is not for movies, it’s for your holiday videos recorded with the phone. You upload them that way you free up the phone’s memory but the videos are still always with you. If you want to watch movies on your phone, subscribe to Netflix.

one wonders why this isn’t showing up where it should…in the zune hub.

Its easily possible for Microsoft to integrate that…

but lets be honest…with the data connections available, you won’t be able to watch too many movies. 700MB is going to kill your data plan…especially if you want to do that repeatedly.

agree, i only pay around 25US dollars a month here in the philippines for a landline and an unlimited internet connection, which i route to a wifi router. XD we dont have thing as a data cap here
