Paul Thurrott confirms Windows Phone 8 leaks

The recent leak by Pocketnow of a presentation to Nokia Partners on Windows Phone 8 by Joe Belfiore has allows Paul Thurrott to confirm the details of the leak.

About the only point of difference is that Paul says there will still be a separate, more powerful Skype app, and that he notes additional Exchange ActiveSync policies and System Center configuration settings and inventory capabilities will make Windows Phone 8 more business friendly.

Besides WIFI hotspot recommendations Local Scout will now also come with personal recommendations, whatever that means.

Paul notes that Windows Phone 8 will launch and be promoted around the same time and the same way as Windows 8, under the brand "Windows Reimagined".

I’m curious to know when MS planned to officially announce Apollo details. Maybe Mobile World Congress show at end of February?

    • Anonymous

      nope..

      • Anonymous

If they’re making videos detailing what Apollo will bring, they probably are planning on giving out at least some of the details at MWC this month, but not detail exactly when it comes out.  We’ll probably get news on Tango’s release date at MWC as well.

Didn’t they give out some details about Mango at MWC last year?

    • Avatar Roku

They haven’t even told us what is in the Tango update yet.

    • Anonymous

Hope so, but might hurt Nokia sales…

      • Anonymous

Why? The Nokia devices will upgrade to Apollo… if you are constantly waiting for the next update youll never get a phone

Did you read who i was replying to? Considering you didnt i’ll explain further. I’m hope they reveal WP8 details at MWC, but doing so may hurt Nokia sales due to the hype of WP8 (higher resolutions, multiple cores, SD card support etc)

I like that ‘Windows Reimagined” branding. Sounds good.

    • Anonymous

Definitely. It goes hand in hand with Windows 8′s make-over.
I’d love to see how this all turns out.

Really exciting times. I always felt the tech race wasn’t fully complete until Microsoft woke up. If they aren’t anything they are a great competitor. That’s why I support their products.

it means they will make it work like Yelp

Looking at that photo I hope they don’t try to push Metro UI for desktops and laptops.

Even if you can turn it of by actively pushing the metro UI on laptops and desktops people will dislike Windows 8 just like they disliked Windows Vista and it wouldn’t mater if you can turn Metro UI of

Sorry, but Ballmer yelling “Metro!, Metro!, Metro!” at CES keynote answers your question. I would wait for Win 8 Beta before giving up on desktop Metro. Win 8 is faster than Win 7, so I don’t see a Vista type backlash. To maintain and grow Windows marketshare, MS has to cater to app addicted casual users. Legacy desktop and Win 7 compatibility is there, so I have no complaints.

wow… you live under a rock?………… the new Windows 8 UI replacing Windows 95- win7 start menu its a metro style screen…

and yeah rumors and people who are supposed to have Access to Windows 8 recent build say there is no more old start menu,.

there is even a developer preview…. and soon Beta = Consumer preview… and yeah new Metro start screen and it Works fine.

and some people like it and some people dont, thats why some peopel still use XP and not Win7.
Im the ones who like it and i will get Windows 8 when its RTM.

Once people see how Metro apps can run side by side with desktop apps & how live tiles work they will appreciate the addition of Metro UI on laptops and desktops.

Very few people are going to want to turn Metro UI off when all of the popular/cool apps are exclusive to Metro UI. Doing that is sort of like downloading Chrome or Firefox browser and turning off all the add-ons. That would be idiotic, it makes no sense.

I don’t see the comparison to Vista at all. Vista had pretty much the same user interface as XP and it’s problems were mostly related to drivers, compatibility, and higher hardware spec requirements. Windows 8 won’t have those problems on desktops/laptops. Where is the analogy?
