Petition Sprint AND Verizon to bring new Windows Phones!

VerizonLogo1

Sprint users have created an online petition that implores America’s third largest wireless carrier to release some new Windows Phones to join the ranks of the first-gen HTC Arrive.

This comes after a recent interview in which several higher-ups at Sprint blamed Microsoft for not doing enough to build enthusiasm for Windows Phones, further citing high return rates due to poor user experience. In fact, however, Sprint’s only Windows Phone device thus far, the HTC Arrive, is rated very well in its online shop, beating several other popular smartphones.

Moreover, we’d suggest that, with the Arrive being its only Windows Phone and not a particularly outstanding one at that, lackluster sales are well to be expected. This thought is echoed in the petition, with the focus being laid on “more choice”:

As customers we are asking for a choice in what devices we buy and not be forced to choose from a single phone for this platform. Every other OS on Sprint has more than one device to choose from, even Brew MP.

Definitely true words, so if you do not want to wait till Apollo for Sprint to get some new Windows Phones, check out the petition and sign it. It’s currently standing at over 1,300 signatures, with almost 700 to go before reaching its goal of 2,000.

Update: There’s a similar petition for Verizon users going on.

The Verizon petition states:

We need to convince Verizon Wireless that there is a strong demand to diversify its smartphone lineup by adding the upcoming Windows Phone 7 phones (HTC Titan I or II, Nokia Lumia 800 or 900, etc.) VZW should not limit its users to just its “Droid” brand nor the latest trend of Apple products. We, as users of all mobile gadgets, request that the Windows Phone 7 phones are given equal treatment in both support, promotion and competition.

The Verizon Petition, which already has 300 signatures, can be found here.

Just got done signing.  Willing to try anything to get more choices on Sprint.

We need one of these for Verizon now too! Anyone want to start one and tip WMPU and WPCentral?

There already is one:  http://petitionbureau.org/wp7onvzw  But WMpoweruser and other sites are only telling about the Sprint one.  This one was started before the Sprint one even.  It was started on Verizon Community Forums.

Thanks. I have been fed up with the VZW community forums as well because they still don’t have a dedicated WP7 sections, still mixed in with the WinMo section.

Also, if you look at the VZW Executives page, there is a link there to email them. I sent an email to the VP of Marketing (can’t recall the name now) expressing my frustration with the single device choice. To my surprise about a week later I received a call regarding that email. I was rushed at the time and couldn’t expess my full feelings but they did seem to appreciate the positive comments about wp7 that I told them. This may also be a good venue to get VZW’s attention.

I’m petitioning with my money. After several years with Sprint I’ll be taking my family plan over to AT&T for the Lumia 900 and finally a real 3G and LTE 4G network.

Sprint is super expensive starting at $80/mo considering they have the slowest 3G network and a failed obsolete Wimax network.

Who cares if they have unlimited data if the network is so slow and spotty. I don’t think Sprint has a long future ahead.

Ding Ding Ding. You sir are doing it the right way; vote with your money.

The only thing these people understand and the only time they listen is when their quarterly profits are low.

I voted with my money when I moved from Verizon last year.  Looks like I made the right choice with AT&T.  They keep getting the best WP7 models.

They will find some crappy Chinese WP phone to sell with a bootlegged copy of WP featuring a 300 hz (that’s right, no mega here) CPU with 200kb of RAM, GPRS, powered by 2 duracell AA batteries and tell us WP isn’t selling.

There is a petition for Verizion as well: http://petitionbureau.org/wp7onvzw

I’m not from the US so I might sound stupid asking this, but why is anyone even on Sprint? From what I gather, they have no true 4G, use outdated tech, and more or less only offer Android phones. AT&T and Verizon seem like the only two viable options from my perspective, but I might be wrong.

They are relatively the cheapest of the big three (3); Sprint account is the easy to open because they accept people with questionable credit (bad shit happen to good people sometime sometimes); they are in a lot of rural areas; people just prefer them over the other sometimes.

Some people have had Sprint service for a while and sometimes change is hard.

Besides the big cities, most of the US doesn’t have 4G coverage regardless of the carrier.  None of them have it in my area and I live in a town with over 50,000 and a University.  Sprint is the cheapest Nationwide carrier.  A lot of companies also offer discounts on your Sprint bill (every place I’ve worked around here offers 18% off).  Sprint phones are super cheap on Amazon wireless as well. My HTC Arrive was $.01 with a contract (got it in May).

Even if Sprint ‘listens’ and gets a WP device, it won’t be until later this year; not to mention that it will probably be only one device.  Will that device be attractive, or in the form factor that will appeal to more people than what the Arrive was able to appeal to?  I doubt it!  There is no way they are going to have a wide selection of WP devices; coupled with the long wait to get one on their network……So, why wait?  Just move to the network that is providing you with the selection of products that you desire.

If you aren’t going over 2GB currently on Sprint, and if ATT service is decent in your area, I say bolt!

I will also like people to see that on Verizon, their single HTC Trophy has a rating of 4.5 stars, out of 830 reviews.  Thats a pretty good indication it’s well received by the people who bought it:  https://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/store/controller?item=phoneFirst&action=viewPhoneDetail&selectedPhoneId=5635#ReadReviewsAnchor

i love mine, only thing missing is 4g/lte, then it would be perfect! (ok a little larger screen wouldn’t hurt)

Pretty sure this wont change anything… unfortunately.

People do not realize this. Even if they listen, it will take a few months for them and the OEMs to work something out and it will take about 6-12 months for a phone to come to market.

VOTE WITH YOUR WALLET PEOPLE. This is the only language they understand.

Those carriers are only motivated by cash. Androids fragmentation is the reason the inherent need to upgrade a device for new version of OS also there are fewer opportunties to load crap apps and bloatware. Look for more CDMA options in 4 weeks.
