Pong: Bring the battle to the iPhone

Many of you might see Ping Pong as a very phone game, but I see it a totally different way. I play ping pong quite often (I have it in my game room), and when I play, its usually intense and it seem now I can have that same intensity on my mobile phone.

This game created by one XDA member tries to put your Windows Phone 7 device vs. the iPhone something. The battle is held in a futuristic city, and the winner takes all, but the ball decides the faith of the world. The battle might go on for ever, but just remember this… Windows Phone 7 will win eventually.

I guess that's an "opinion" piece. Hey, engadget has a first impressions piece of WP7 today. Guess what? It's OK! A nice interface. No lag. Nice email and browser. It's just not quite ready the the big time, yet. Close, but no cigar.

Despite widely-reported horrendous politics at MS and a functional brief that doesn't aim that high, it's kind of OK. What it doesn't do is blow away iOS, Android or WebOS.

We'll see where it is this time next year. My guess; modest sales, great hardware and a roadmap of functional OS improvements that will finally deliver something better than a late beta product.

Why won't sales take off? Well, WM wasn't really a great consumer OS – it was a functional business OS, but only hardcore geeks bought it for fun and pleasure. MS has no track record in the consumer phone market and I just wonder who the customers will.

* You? WHY!? You presumably love WM 6.5. WP7 is the antithesis. Android is your best bet.

* The style conscious? Getting an iPhone. MS is not cool.

* Kids? Getting the latest feature phone, or a Blackberry. My 16 year old's gadget lust has transformed from years's of "want an iPhone" to pure, unadulterated "All my friends have a Blackberry! I NEED one now".

* Business? Getting a Blackberry, or, for some reason, increasingly, an iPhone.

* Gamers. Getting an iPhone.
