This makes the most sense out of all the posts I've read. All the rumors of a smaller version of the iphone that we had heard of a while back now make sense. Also if you think about the Chasis specs which actually seem to be a solid lead, if MS wasn't going to allow side loading they would have require more internal storage. Think about it 1Gig wouldn't even be enough room to download a movie from Zune Marketplace. MS hasn't always made the best choices but that would be and is beyond belief

If this is true than it will be time for us die-hard WM users to move on to Android. The only reason some of us are staying with WM is legacy application we have been using from years and multi-tasking. I have couple of applications I have been using from WM 2003 and have been using the Tomtom application since 2005 when it first came out. No multi tasking? Are they trying to copy iPhone?

I cannot imagine MS would take away the multi-tasking so hopefully these rumors are not true. Only week and half and we will find out.

If that is WM7, then you'll see a guy staying with WM6.5 till a HD2-equavalent that sports Android comes around…
almost anything listed up there sucks, no multitasking? WTF! no backwards compability? WTF! application installation via marketplace only? WTF! no OEM-overlays? WTF!

microsoft, if this is true then you're definetely going the wrong way.

Hey guys, read the other comments, before you add your own, or think about a sec. These specifications are surely not for WM7. Wait until 15th, to know the real stuff about the new OS. The only reason for the OEMs are holding their intrest in WM is the replaceable UI and some other customizations, wich are listed here as a restriction. Do you think the manufacturers and Microsoft developed THIS together for years??? Come on! Wait until the date!

I think what they're describing technically is multitasking, it's just that the context switch happens at clear boundaries defined by the user, rather than time slices.

For a phone, this probably makes sense for _most_ applications. But they should give applications the ability to opt into being scheduled on a time slice. The main use I can think of is for something like Pandora, where you want the music to play in the background while you run your recipe application (for example). But for the most part, "pausing" is the right thing to do (as you generally don't want to waste the cycles/battery for an app just spinning in the background).

If true, this will kill WM or at least decrease already small market share of WM.
Just think: who will use the "new" OS: just people who do not now to install an application.

What about the whole community of technically experienced people?

Now I have 3 main reasons to use WM:
1. Lots of available software, which easy installable – there isn't all that Symbian horror of certification.
2. User interface software from other companies (currently SPB Mobile Shell 3.5)
3. The best GPS software – iGO (at least for my part of the world).

And Microsoft will kill all that environment?!

Go to hell Microsoft!
