Thanks. That one is actually my favourite. Added.

  • http://www.twitter.com/CrisRowlands CrisRowlands

Also, the panther was simply a prototype piece of hardware, which wont ever be sold, if my memory is correct.

  • WP7Follower

The LG Panther is a dev-only phone, and won't be available for purchase.

  • KBsays

I actually like the shape of the Panther a lot more than the C900. LG could have just made the Panther all back, upgraded the materials, and made it a bit sleeker looking but kept the basic shape. C900 looks a bit round and the materials a bit cheap.

  • Lennard

I dont' know, but they all look like they came out of 2007/2008…..

    • http://www.martinschmidler.com martinschmidler

      True, except the Lightning maybe…

@all OEMs: If you don't want me (and thousands of others) to buy an iPhone 4 leak something sexy NOW.

      • maxxorz

To which they respond: "If you are choosing a phone's operating system based on how good the handset looks, then you're missing the point."

Seriously. If you are willing to go to the iPhone 4 *just* because some of the handsets aren't pretty, then you probably weren't going to buy a WP7 device in the first place.

        • Craig S

What? I'm in love with the OS. Yet, I will not buy any of the phones shown for AT&T because they're hideous. I'm choosing a handset that has an OS, not an OS that has a handset

If even a WP7 fan is turned away from these phones, what do you think regular customers will do?

      • Northerngeek

If it's about looks then maybe you SHOULD buy an iPhone.

        • Danny

You guys seriously don't get it. If only the people who are interested in wp7 right now buy it – it is doomed. Without question. If the makers go with maxxorz response it will die on the vine. MS gets this even if some of its fans don't and has said that there will be "stunning" hardware – so where is it?

It MUST break out into the larger world and attract people who, right now, have never even heard of it. To do that it has to bring some style to the game. Claiming that people interested in looks weren't going to buy it anyway…wow what a losing argument. Those are exactly some of the people it has to attract if it is going to go anywhere. It can't just be everybody here. So if looks are important to some people than it had better bring them – it is not that people are willing to buy handsets ONLY because they are pretty is that people want something as thoughtful as the OS is runs. Instead of getting defensive and telling them to buy a iPhone you should be demanding better from the manufacturers even if you like what we have seen so far. I'm a huge fan of the wp7 – I think it is the first real rethinking in the mobile space in a generation of UI design but I want some more than a vanilla handset to go with it. btw – If these reference designs are what manufacturers are going with I'd be worried even if I didn't want a killer looking phone because it means that wp7 is not the priority and that they are not bothering to bring their A game – that should worry anybody into the OS.

          • efjay

Jolly well SAID!!!! Guess you and I are the only ones that get it :)

          • http://twitter.com/WMPerson @WMPerson

            Hay,
I need good looks too you know. And I have said the same thing he said before in an article, but I died in the comments :D
But ya, I cannot walk around with an ugly device. I love WP7 (yes, thats love at first sight) but I also have a style and rep to keep up. Wen -the phone guy- cant be Wen -the guy with an ugly awesome phone-.

          • smoothcr“ooner

            Hear, hear.

This is the second post I 've read on this matter, the first being efjay's, that emcapsulates my thoughts exactly.

  • djguapo

    Lightning*

    (where's the editor?)

  • krekiere

I'm definately getting the HTC one !!!
If no device is unveiled until the release date of WP7

  • sebas

will the lightning be sold in asia?
singapore will be getting wp7 at launch, but will the dell lightning be available in singapore?

    • STrep

No. Only HTC. And only Singtel.

      • sebas

        that sucks man

  • Chris

I would like to see Dell making a Lighting without hardware-keyboard, which could lead to a slightly thinner Design.

And HTC can do better than this Schubert! They should use a Design based on the HD2.

    • noneym

the keyboard i believe is what makes the lightning sexy. maybe it's just me.

    • Darth Vader

Chris, I agree with you! the lightening without a keyboard I would literally be the first person in line to pick one up. That is the hottest wm7 that I have seen, I pray that there is non keyboard option.

And for those that think that people don't buy phone based on the slickness of the hardware then you need to get outside more.

get a group of people together and let each of them pull their phone, the slick design will be the conversation point, OS aside.

      DarthVader

  • Han

It seems that all LG phones are ugly and cheap looking. Lets just wait for HTC ones.

  • John

The bottom Samsung looks hot, and so does the Dell Lightning. Heres hoping HTC is just keeping its best phones closest to its chest.

  • Anais

They are all ugly except the Lightning.

All look like very old phones.

I won't buy any, except maybe the Lightning.

  • http://twitter.com/Jaxbot @Jaxbot

There's a list here of most of them, not all are confirmed though: http://windowsphone7central.com/devices.php

  • Northerngeek

For me it'll be the Lightning or if there was a chance I'd love the Asus with a physical keyboard.

    • Craig S

Lightning is attractive but the portrait keyboard is not so useful here. Turn it sideways

  • Anais

Sad. I was really looking forward to chosing my next WP7 device. But all they give us is crap.
These phones they all look cheap, old-fashioned and definitely, even the HTC ones.
The manufacturers really did no efforts at all for WP7.

I like none of them, and will stay with my HD2 for a moment I think, until one manufacturer decides to release a nice WP7 phone.
    Shame.

I like the Mystery Samsung a lot. Maybe it is because the designs is very zunesque. Is like if someone from samsung had combined the design of the Gen 1 and Gen 2 zunes to make the phone. It is blocky, but it looks good.

Now i truly just want the choice of Gray Tiles. I think it should actually let you set whatever color of tiles you want with the device.

    • http://www.Appatic.com Avatar X

Beyond the Mystery Samsung, the only three other designs i would be interested in are the Dell Lightining, The Asus, a WP7 version of the Dell Streak and whatever ends up as the HTC HD3.

But what others think about a wP7 version of the Dell Streak?.

      • http://www.Appatic.com Avatar X

        Other 4 designs, not 3.

  • Durishin

Best phone I ever had was a thumboard format (P910a). I am anxious to hold a lightening in my hands.

Is WP7 limited to 62k colours as was WinCE? I have really missed the gazillions of colours I had w/Symbian.

  • sk

I don't find any of these, except for Lightning interesting. I don't understand why HTC, LG, and Samsung waste money making these phones if they can't even come up with decent designs. Hopefully, these are prototypes, but that's not likely.

  • Diego!

I like so far HTC Schubert, Samsung Cetus and LG Panther. What I can't believe is that LG won't sell the Panther and instead are delivering that piece of cr@p that is LG C900. Meh!

  • Fredrik72

Black, black, black or black. Is no other color possible for a Windows Seven Phone?

  • http://twitter.com/chmun77 @chmun77

    Dell Lightning is cool!!

  • http://twitter.com/MistaWet @MistaWet

The best thing is the worst looking one's are heading to AT&T for sure. If the rumor is true about Verizon holding back before ordering any WP7 phones, then I am happy knowing we are probably not looking at any Sprint phones yet or at the very least Sprint has a shot at being the mystery Samsung joint. Based on how the last smart phones Sprint put out (Evo and Epic), I'm expecting them to have a nice looking WP7 phone.

  • TekDragon

I'm still hoping I can wrangle the Lightning. It sounds like AT&T is finally headed our way in the next 3 months (although I'll believe it when I see it). Otherwise, I'm hoping that there might be a CDMA version of it, since the Thunder is very similar and Engadget found a test suite for Qualcomm CDMA programming in the software. So maybe…

the dell one looks really nice
