Samsung Chief Strategy Officer–“We have have a very tight partnership with Windows”

Recent rumours has had Samsung de-prioritising Windows Phone 7. Omar Khan, chief strategy officer for Samsung Telecommunications America has however told Engadget that they remain committed to Windows Phone 7.

Noting that Samsung had 2 of the best selling Windows Mobile devices, the Samsung Blackjack and Samsung Omnia, he goes on to say “We have a very tight partnership, we are lock step.”

Omar refused to be drawn on the date of release and the devices that would be released, but promised, despite Microsoft’s restrictions, the handsets will be differentiated.

“What I can tell you about Windows phone 7 and Samsung is that we will bring some of our hardware differentiation and a lot of the capabilities that we bring to a product perspective and a differentiation perspective to Windows Phone 7.” he said.

With LG doing DLNA I cant wait to see what Samsung brings to the table.

humm… hardware differentiation sounds like Super AMOLED to me, I sure hope so but if they don't have a device this xmas then I'll have to jump onto something else.

super amoled is a battery hog, i'd rather have normal AMOLED. its perfectly fine in sunlight, dont listen to any naysayer

Half as good? Are you kidding? Have you ever held an iPhone4 in your own hands?? THAT is build quality, man!

I really want to buy a WP7 device as well, but OEMs don't seem really interested in WP7 compared to Android.

This is one reason why WP7 will do well;- with the UI effectively locked, the main way a manufacturer can best the competition is by hardware differentiation. The result of this, is true innovation and advancement. Tweaking a UI to differentiate and gain sales is superficial to say the least.

This benefits the consumer as it accelerates development. We all know Apple holds back on technological features in order to milk the public and hold out as long as possible to maximise profits. Now with a competitor constantly updating their hardware, this should stop this dispicable stalling practice. As a result, the buying public wins!
