Below is another great video of the Samsung Omnia Pro’s UI in action. Unlike the other demos we saw in this one the UI is actually responsive and appears ready to go to the market right now.

WinMo 6.1?

About time they really messed up with the underpinnings of the UI.

I think all these devices should start from WinCE instead of WinMo… It’s RAW power…

Oh dear, it’s 21th century and I still haven’t seen a single WM touchscreen UI that would just work EVERY TIME you use it. On all these UI demos there’s always a moment where the UI doesn’t respond properly or at all. And as a user I don’t really care if it’s because of a screen type, OS or UI.

Actually I think this one is pretty good, and it seems mostly that when nothing happens, its when the app thinks he is scrolling instead of selecting.

It is pretty good indeed and out of TP2, M900 and Omnia Pro this is most probably the device I’ll go for. I’m sure you can learn how to press or swipe correctly so that it’ll be close to 100% accurate but the point I was making was that it should just work. Maybe a stupid example but imagine elements of UI of a car which usually or nearly always work…

The car comparison is my favourite when it comes to explaining the difference between good and bad UI!:) It’s by no means stupid! UI designers should think about cars all the time. As it seems to me they tend to think about designing a cockpit of a jet plane instead;) At least in the case of WM;P Of course a wrong press on a touchscreen won’t get you killed as missed response of the steering wheel would;) Nevertheless UI’s should be as flawless and nonsense-free as they can. Something i still miss in upcoming WM phones.

The same thing happens on any other touchscreen device (including the iPhone), too.
It is the users’ fault. The guy in the video, for example, makes the same mistake again and again. He’s tapping too fast and inaccurate, thus his taps are recognized as quick swipes.

personally I don´t like this neon-glow-style surface for example in the dialer or in the settings menu. I hope they´ll make it customizable (in this case HTC´s TouchFlo 3D is much more stylish).
Additionally I would like to have something like HTC´s people-centric new system where messages to and from one person are to be found in one place. To make a long story short.

And to add a last point: The widget-based interface looks really nice and it´s nice that you can customize it but I think TouchFlo 3D is much more intuitive and easier to use “on-the-go”.

So, to make a long story short: I´d like to have the Samsung Omnia 2 but with TouchFlo 3D … or even better: The successor of the HTC Touch HD with AMOLED, Snapdragon and a camerabutton … so if any of HTC´s product-managers is reading this … you know what to do.
