Samsung Omnia II Update to WM 6.5.3

The Samsung Omnia II was released late last year with an awesome spec sheet, and buggy software(from my experience.) Well Samsung is working on an update and it will include Windows Mobile’s finest software… Windows Mobile 6.5.3. This comes from Samsung Hub, who reports that Samsung Sweden has confirmed the WM 6.5.3 update for the Omnia II, which I am sure many O2 Owners are happy to hear.

The update is rumored to be released the second half of May. That means you have to wait merely months before you can do the update to a better, stable, faster world of finger friendly touchability. This update is not WP7S or anything close, but its something that I am sure many Samsung Omnia II owners would find important, and maybe will fixes those issues that I experienced when I had the device for testing.

Hi thanks for the information. Does anybody know if this update to WinMo 6.5.3 will cover the Omnia Pro B7610? It is pretty much an Omnia 2 with a QWERTY Keyboard that is why I was wondering.

It's a good news for us as Omnia II user. It is a nice phone but very disappointed with their 6.5 update which has many issues. WM6.1 was much better and stable on this device when it shipped originally. Hopefully they will fix all the issues it had on wm 6.5 rom and can't wait to see 6.5.3 upgrade.

The update needs to be done from a computer running Windows XP or Vista. Samsung still does not supprot Windows 7, released last year. Incompetence?

I have been extremely disappointed with the support this phone has received from Samsung and Verizon. The phone was released and there are no accessories available. It has great specs but underperforms when compared to other HTC devices. Samsung has better step up to the plate and significantly improve the UI. The phone has so much untapped potential.

I hope there will be an update to B7610 Omnia Pro also. In India, they haven't even launched 6.5 update yet. All the customer care has to say is "The phone is upgradable to 6.5, update will come soon. Please bear with us till then.", loosers! They can't even specify a month to release the update.

However, if they directly release the 6.5.3 update, it will be awesome! coz based on that, I can create custom 6.5 ROM without a problem. All I need is the 6.5 kernel and OEM applications

Any1 have more info about this!? im still waiting the update i just went in to win mobile page and omnia ii is not in the updates list, actually was remove from the list :S

Hi everyone.
I have a story to tell if someone is interested. I bought a 16 GB Omnia II in late march. I check that the latest firmware was installed and it was working for about 2 weeks, then the 16 GB internal memory disapeared.
Sent it in for repair and got it back 1 week later. It worked fine for 2 more weeks but then the memory disapeared again. Sent it in for repair once again. This time it took over one month to get it back. This time I'm quite sure that it updated to Win 6.5.3 because it was completely different and much nicer than before. There was only one problem, phone calls did not workt. Sent it in for the third time to get this minor bug fixed.
This time they kept it for for an other month. When I finally got it back the firmware was updated again and it was looking really nice, but of cause, you could still not makes calls with it. More to come…

This time they said a was to get my money back. With no phone but all my money back I wanted to buy a new phone. Here in Sweden you can now only by a Omnia II with 2 GB memory and win 6.5.3. Last time I had 16 GB memory, so i thought 2 GB was a little to little (I want all apps incl TomTom and naval charts to be installed on the internal memory so you can switch sd-cards without loosing any installed programs). Finally I found a Web shop that had both a 2 GB version and 8 GB version. Fine, i bought the 8 GB version and got it today. I unpacked it and it was not win 6.5.3 on it. Tried to update but got the message "phone not supported". Called Samsung, they said it should work and they told me to send in the phone for repair…. I'm quite convinced that i will get the phone back with 6.5.3 but I will not be able to make calls…
