Samsung Taylor developer handset will not be updated to NoDo

While many of us have complained about waiting too long for Windows Phone 7 updates, there is a group of phones which will never see an update from build 7003 at all.

According to a Microsoft rep on Microsoft’s developer forums, there is no intent to release an update for these now venerable handsets.

Eric Fleck, a member of the Windows Phone team from Microsoft writes:

The Samsung Taylor was intended for pre-production use only.
They were updated to an RTM release at end of Beta to bridge the gap between end of Beta and general availability of production phones.
I know of no plans to release any further update for the Samsung Taylor devices.

This move will disappoint many developers who have received the free handsets last year, who will now have to buy a new handset themselves. The good news is that NoDo did not bring any API changes, so they could theoretically continue developing on the handsets all the way up to the release of Mango, and if they are developing seriously of course the expense of a new handset should not be a deal breaker.

those people who got those phones can't be upset at Microsoft because Microsoft gave them a free phone. those people didn't have to pay for it. not one of them. ad devs they must have made enough money to actually buy a retail phone by now.

Wrong! I actually paid for my LG Panther from ebay not knowing it wouldn't be updated, so I have every right to be upset. When Microsoft is touting that "ALL" handsets would be updated, and your's isn't, what else would you be?

Nope. Me & a bunch of users has tried every hack you can think of. Even tried flashing the LG Quantum rom. Nothing works.

Microsoft is not to be blamed here. Again Microsoft gave those devices out free but yet went out and paid for one. I fail to see how Microsoft is at fault here.

Microsoft, from the beginning, has said "Every device will be updated." It's one of their bullet points. They never ever said, "these 2 developer devices will not be updated". Had they made that clear, I'd still be using a Touch Pro2, but it would have been in direct conflict of there "every device" mantra. They completely lied.

Yup. I got my LG Panther for $300 USD. I won't be buying another phone for a long time and unless a good side-slider comes out in the US, I'll be going to Android next.

I have a Samsung Focus on 7003, so I'm hoping that's going to be able to update. I couldn't update it using the workaround methods recently, while all the other Focus owners could.

There a quite a few Samsung Focus on 7003 and they update just fine.

Did you run Windows Phone Support Tool and hit "recover"? Do that if the update fail.

I'd like to know where these "quite a few" are, as I haven't read any reports of other updating from 7003 successfully. My Focus is H/W Rev 1.3, just like the majority of others out there.

I've read of other (non-developer) devices also stuck on 7003 with exactly the same problems as me.
