Samsung to launch App store at Mobile World Congress

Samsung has launched an application store for their Windows Mobile and Symbian devices, powered by PocketGear.

Unlike most other channels, Samsung seems to have gone out of their way to be developer friendly. There is no registration fee, distribution is free and freeware apps are distributed at no cost.

With the Samsung Mobile Applications website, Samsung is expected to also deliver an on-device java-powered application portal which will allow for the sale of applications, themes and ringtones. The application even supports the sale of music and audio-books.

The same interface will also allow for internet searches as well as searching on-device data.

The store is already stocked with 1100 applications and will initially be focused on the UK market. More details will be available at Mobile World Congress.

Developers wanting to add their application to the store can register by visiting Samsung Mobile Applications today.
