Screen shot app now available for WP7, but needs interop unlock: Update–No, only dev unlock required!

Via WPCentral we hear of a new utility out of China which offers screen shot capability on Windows Phone 7.

The app however needs the device to be both developer unlocked and interop-unlocked, which at present appears to be available only to Mango devices from Samsung.

‘Screen Capturer’ version 2 for Mango takes pictures on a timer (no hardware button activation unfortunately) and works as follows

Launch app
Set a time via the slider at top ?1-60s?
Click ”????“
Navigate to the app you want to screen shot.
Wait for the earlier set time.
Open Picture –> Albums –> Saved picture

WPCentral reports the app works pretty well, except for Xbox Live games. They have hosted the the XAP here.

Screen shot support is a major missing feature from Windows Phone 7, making it unnecessarily difficult for the media to write about Windows Phone 7, and the feature request already has 3846 votes on Microsoft’s user voice site, making it the 6th highest ranking feature requested there.

Microsoft has however in the past said it is not a feature high on their priority list yet, with Aaron Woodman, Director of Mobile Communication at Microsoft saying “I have never sat in a user group–and I sit in a lot of user groups, a lot of retail groups–I’ve never heard an end user go ‘why can’t I take a screenshot of that?”

Update: WindowsPhoneHacker have updated the XAP, and now interop unlock is no longer required, meaning any unlocked Mango handset will work.

Only works for system things when I try to take pictures in a game the picture is just a black screen.

Works like a champ on my dev unlocked (no interop) device. Note: You have to tap the toast that appears after the timeout to get the current screenshot. Otherwise the saved image appears to always be one image behind.
