Simple trick to force the Mango update

With the Windows Phone 7.5 update only being rolled out to 10% of users initially the impatient many many want an early piece of the action.

It seems the old “disconnect the internet“ trick from the NoDo days also works for forcing Zune to deliver the Mango update to your phone.

The step by step instructions are:

Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune software
Click on Settings/Update. Allow the software to tell you whether an update is available. If so, skip this guide. If not continue to the next step.
Click the check for update button again, and this time immediately disconnect your computer from the internet. Do this by pulling the Ethernet cable, disabling Wi-Fi, etc.
Wait 30 seconds or so and you should receive a notification that an update is available.
Now reconnect to the internet and continue with the update process through the Zune software.

Seems simple enough. Let us know if it works for you.

Hi , I have Omnia 7 on Tmobile UK, I tried your trick and it seems not to work. how soon after you press the update button should you turn internet off/ switch to airplane mode?

Any idea?

Hello everybody,

I have a windows phone HTC HD7 (7.10 (7592)) but I dont get an update.
The trick (above) don’t works for me, i try different times to disconnected internet but nothing works.WHO CAN HELPS ME?I like to have whats app, but its not available for HD7 without an update to mango.

I got so excited when I read this post and in particular blackbox2342′s reply which said it worked for Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac. Unfortunately it doesn’t work for me although I’ve tried it about 10 times. I’m using an iMac running OS X v10.7.2 and Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac v2.0.1 and the latest OS I have managed to get on my Samsung Omnia 7 is v7.10.7740.16. Has anyone got any suggestions please?

Hi, I did this with my HTC HD7, and now that I need to talk with the supplier about another issue, they say that my warranty is voided because I forced the update. To me, this is utter bull. What do others think?
