Sony Ericsson teasing a Windows Phone for CES?

tease

WPCentral noticed this picture, tweeted by SonyEricsson.nl, asking:

We are ready to go for interesting news next week … what do you think it could be?

Now Sony Ericsson has made it clear before that they are committed to Android, as recently as October 2011, when their CEO saidAt this point I wouldn’t feel comfortable investing in a platform that isn’t as good as the one that we currently use. Therefore we have remained with Android, but I am quite curious about Windows Phone”.

Maybe their curiosity got the better of them, because WPCentral noted the curious tile theme to the picture, and other commenters have noticed the 4 people in the picture are dressed in the Windows Phone colours, as can be seen in our our logo.

Maybe WPCentral is reaching quite a bit, but we are sure to find out pretty soon.

The cup, pillow in the background and mat (looks like a checkers board) on that table have “tiles”…interesting!

I don’t think it’s a reach at all.  It sure looks like a WP teaser to me.

      and the shirt

Xperia Arc HD (Nozomi) or something else similar (but based on Android, if we look upon more recent entries in
https://www.bluetooth.org/tpg/EPL_Detail.cfm?ProductID=19447 (material is removed in the meantime, but we have done an article about it prior to removal)
Although those tiles do look kinda…misterious.

Because it makes you wonder what’s the real score is. SE is also promoting new phones which have “metro-fied” interfaces but are running Android instead. I always read from more reliable news sites that these kind of articles or news should always be read with lots of grains of salt.

Sony and Xbox I dont think so.

They are probably not in now when wp7 continued to lose market share in the U.S.

Well… Considering they haven’t really made an effort in the US yet, I don’t think anyone is surprised.

The cup looks very live-tileish. This should be interesting.

I would like to see an Xbox phone.
    - Instead of a slidout keyboard, it would have a slide out control pad
    - No phone requirement (think ipod touch)

It would flop just like the Playstation phone did.

SE make good designs in general. If true, as long as they support it by releasing constant updates (if the phone[s] have any bugs or no drivers  - e.g. Dell with the VP) it should we an impressive phone to have.

Thats the stupidest thing I heard all day. Google uses the exact same color palette. Look at this picture
    http://www.androider.de/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/google-nexus-one-470×311.jpg

There is no way sony releases a WP at this time. I would take any bets.

Calm down dude.  Everyone here agrees this is all just speculation.  smh

There are 3 places with “tiles” (the pillow,
the thing on the table and the cup) and the 4 persons are wearing a shirt in
the colors of Windows Phone. Those things were already “discovered” by others.
But what about the books under the table: it seems we see the same 4 colors…
    again!

I wouldn’t say this is a proof (not at all!), but the
fact is that the 4 Windows Phone colors are coming back multiple times (first the
shirts, now the books). And it seems a few of these colors are shown even more:
red (lamp, table), green (walls), orange (walls, seats); only the blue is
    missing from the “set” :-)

On the other hand it would be weird for SE to say WP is not that good (at least compared to Android) and announce a WP phone 3 months later! Also, WP is something that could increase the use of Xbox Live (and so enhance the Xbox sales), something SE doesn’t like that much (well, I would think so)…

The IT industry is complex and weird though… One day 2 companies are rivals, the other day they announce a partnership. If Sony sees a few advantages now or a good deal with MS could have been made, it wouldn’t surpise me they’ve changed their mind. For example, suppose they are allowed to put a serious PS Suite on top of WP for their own SE WP phones, they get a decent discount from MS and they are mentioned for free in different marketing campagins from MS (mentioning a few WP manufacturers in ads for example, like they did in Greece recently), perhaps Sony thinks it doesn’t hurt at least to release one such phone.

Well, let’s wait for a few more days and we know
for sure :-) Normally this teaser would really makes us think it has to ba a WP phone, but there were indeed Android images in the past with the 4 WP colors… On the other hand I think the colors are more important for WP than for a few Android images from the past and as they they stress those 4 colors a lot in this picture… Sight… Maybe, maybe not… We’ll see in a few days :-)
