South Africa also gets a December Windows Phone 7 release date

South Africa to get Windows Phone 7 in December After leaking a December Windows Phone 7 release date in Australia, it seems another antipodean country is joining the list.

Microsoft has told South African technology magazine MyBroadband.co.za that the Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system is on track to be available to South African consumers in time for the December holidays.

“Windows Phone 7 is a big step for Microsoft. With the RTM of Windows Phone 7, we are one step closer to bringing a more complete experience mobile to consumers than ever before,” said Nkosi Kumalo, marketing lead for Windows Phone in South Africa.

They (Cellphone network providers) normally have the new catalog of phones ready in November/December for sales.

Haha. It's seriously cool seeing my country mentioned on one of my favourite blogs! I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for any WP7 devices – am planning on getting one.

Just for interest sake, our biggest cell phone providers/carriers (all GMS) are: Vodacom, Virgin Mobile, MTN & CellC. I think it's most likely that Vodacom will be carrying WP7 devices. What makes this important is that Vodacom is owned (about 60% if I'm not mistaken) by Vodaphone, so I suppose this predicts that Vodaphone will be carrying these devices as well?
