Sports Tracker now available for ALL Windows Phones

The wait is finally over for those who have been waiting for a competitive, Mango-optimized, cross-platform fitness tracking application. Sports Tracker today announced the availability of their Windows Phone application, which you can download here or using the QR Code below. Although Sports Tracker is using the Nokia Lumia phones to market it, the app is available for ALL Windows Phone devices; Windows Phone 7.5 is required. It is available in English, Finnish and Swedish.

This application can track your fitness in the following activities:

Walking
Running
Cycling
Skiing
Mountain biking
Hiking
Roller skating
Downhill skiing
Paddling
Rowing
Golf
Indoor

plus a couple of ‘other’ fields that you can customize with other workouts such as swimming or snowboarding. The application features a Diary that will show you a rundown of all your tracked activities, viewable by week or in total. It also takes advantage of Windows Phone 7.5′s fast app switching.

As part of their marketing effort, and as mentioned before, Sports Tracker is promoting the application with the Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 devices, and they are giving away a Lumia 800 on their Facebook page.

Endomondo is not much different. I haven’t seen any additional function in Sports Tracker. However, the graphics are better looking.

These download links don’t ever work on Windows Phones…. You have to post the URL as s?appid= so it actually works on a Windows Phone.

Another great alternative is Livescape. It’s been out exclusively for Windows Phone for the past year. IMO, it blows all other Health & Fitness apps out of the water, even the ones on Android and iPhone (and believe me when I say I’ve tried them ALL).

I love how the attitude here is always negative when it comes to improving the OS, hardware or adding apps. Has it ever occurred to you guys that some people have been using (Nokia) Sports Tracker since 2007 and have it as a prerequisite before jumping to a new platform?

I just hope that it will work as well as on the Symbian platform. Very interested to know if the application continues to track your movement even if forced to the back by an incoming call or some such. 2007 … just saying …

Somebody mentioned that it’s a limitation of Microsoft’s API that these GPS fitness tracking applications can’t have true multitasking, i.e. the ability to leave the application and have it keep tracking your location. Sports Tracker does it a little better than the rest, as it continues the clock but the location tracking still turns off. I wonder if the other platforms (Apple and Google) have that ability or not.

Also if you’re in for a walk that goes for a good cause – you can try this small app we’re creating. The application was developed (and it’s still is), for the Windows Phone 7 primarily , but we’re working on a public beta for Android also (it should come also for iOS at some point in the future).
