Spotify For Windows Phone Is Now Live In Marketplace

Spotify for Windows Phone is now available for download from marketplace. The app is free but requires Spotify premium account to stream music to our devices.

App Description:

-Access your songs using the WiFi network or 2.5 / 3 G.

-Lists of offline music, play your songs without having access to the internet.

-Receive music that your friends send you using your Inbox.

-Mark your favorite songs so that they appear in a special list.

-Share your favorite tracks on social networks such as Twitter, Facebook,etc,.

-Access your friends playlist within this app.

Works fine on the danish (web) marketplace. Couldn’t find it on the phone though. Might not be updated on the phone yet.

Buggy as hell! I think they could’ve skipped Spotify and just unlocked Zune music for Scandinavia

I think the Spotify for WP is clearly inferior to Zune Pass. I see no way to play music in my local library (synced through PC-Zune), which is a real let down. Other than the few highlighted artists/albums, it’s quite tedious to find new artists (have to know the name to be able to search for it). The version 1.0 for WP doesn’t include the Spotify radio -functionality
(akin to Zune smart dj), either.

I think I’m much better off with Zune Pass.

It’s not about which is better but the fact that people (in Sweden) already has Spotify and won’t pay for two services thus you have to have Spotify or WP is dead here.

Spotify offers a free account which is what I have. I have yet to try the app so don’t know if it’s the same but on PC you will get an ad after every third song you listen to. After Free I think there are 2 more levels of subscription where one just removes the ads and the one above that where you’re allowed to download the songs instead of just streaming.

Yes, I know that, I use Spotify on desktop too. But the point is that Spotify mobile is supposed to work only for Premium users. That’s why I’m asking if they are offering a trial period for WP7 users, because I’m able to stream music to my WP as well as to make the playlists offline.

I have just noticed Spotify has charged me 10€. Very bad for them to charge without showing any notification.

Well, it was my error, the charge is not from Spotify. I contacted them and they told me that when using mobile client a Premius subscription is activated for free for 48 hours. Then it will come back to Free.

You need the premium service to use it on your phone. The free account (or the the 2nd level) only works on pc, not the phone.

How on earth can Spotify multi-task when that GPS apps that was reviewed a while back was limited to tombstoning? Is it using some background service to continue streaming audio? What is the trick?

Very nice app. And for a European that has been using Spotify for years a very welcome addition. Shame last.fm scrobbling is missing (it’s in the desktop app and I believe the iPhone and Android app), small issue but would be nice to have. Also default volume seems very loud, even on 01 on phone volume it is much louder than say Zune or system notifications.
