Resco Snake 1.11 for Windows Mobile reviewed

Resco Snake is Resco’s interpretation of the classic game “Snake” and they’ve done a good job with it. You control your little snake through 24 levels (in full colour) over 4 ‘seasons’ and you get to battle a boss level enemy at the end of each season. There are also three levels of difficulty to choose from. The menus are friendly enough on your fingers that you never need a stylus but sadly it doesn’t support using D-Pads. The game is controlled using the G-sensor to “steer” your snake which means you can’t re-create the style of the original Snake …

Resco Snake – new accelerometer game for Windows Mobile

 rescosnake2 rescosnake1

Commercial accelerometer games for Windows Mobile have been rather rare, but Resco was one of the first with the great Resco Bubbles.  They have now followed up with a great update which brings the classic Snake game into the 21st century.

In Resco Snake you have to navigate the snake through four seasons, each with different levels, enemies and threads. Once you complete all the levels in one season there is always a final boss awaiting. And if the game seems too easy, there are 3 difficulty levels waiting for you.

Description:

  • Accelerometer game
  • 3 difficulty levels
  • 4 seasons each with 6 challenging levels
  • 4 final bosses
  • Outstanding graphics
  • Calibration

Resco offers free support and a money back guarantee, so one can buy with confidence. The game is a reasonable $9.95 and can be purchased here.

Great G-Sensor-enabled arcade game

fighter3 fighter fighter4

A nice arcade game for Windows Mobile has popped up on XDA-Developers.  The game is G-Sensor enabled, which makes for more interesting game play, but also works without. Unfortunately the game is mostly in Chinese, but for a shooter such as this it does not matter too much.

Guys, you are going to love this

I personally feel most attractive feature of the application is its user-friendly and intuitive user interface, for which the developer should be congratulated (others may disagree ;) )

The app, designed for the HTC Touch HD, has not been released yet, but follow this XDA-Developer thread for more info.

Aquarium app for G-sensor equipped devices

Aquarium-i900-g-sensor Hekk from XDA-Developers have written this neat little app which simulates a fish floating in a very mobile aquarium, being tossed around while you wave your smartphone.

It seems pretty good for showing of the g-sensor feature of your device, and appears to run equally well on the Samsung Omnia as the HTC Touch Diamond.

Additionally apparently the graphics can also be modified with a little skill to include anything you want.

The app can be downloaded from XDA-Developers here.

GravityBalls: New G-Sensor Game for Diamond and Touch Pro

Well the folks at XDA Developers never seem to dissapoint us. It seems XDA member zehlein has designed a new game that utilizes the G-Sensor in the HTC Touch Diamond and the HTC Touch Pro.

Here is what this game is all about:

“This game is about gravity and balls. With the movement of your hand (left/right tilting) you control the paddle that explodes the balls. Tilting up and down changes the gravitational force applied to the balls. This way you can accelerate them, slow them down or even make them fly to heaven again…”

This game is brand new, and not a whole lot is known about it at this time. It does appear from the few responses given on XDA that the sensitivity of the G-Sensor controls could stand to be more sensitive, and there may be a possible issue with the backlight timing out.

Overall though, the game looks to be very stable right from the start, and we are certain that if any bugs are identified, they will be addressed with a quickness.  As far as we can tell, compatible devices are the HTC Touch Diamond and the HTC Touch Pro.

So if you are a gamer and have been awaiting something new to pass the time, head to the original thread here to grab the download or to learn more.

Let us know how you like this game in the comments.

PocketGravity updated to support the HTC Touch HD

PocketGravity is an innovative piece of software for Windows Mobile phones which allows one to create 2 dimensional objects and then run physics simulations on it.  The objects can react to the real world using the G-sensor found in today’s advanced smartphones, and has now been updated to support the HTC Touch HD.

The updated software can be downloaded from this XDA-Developers thread here.

New Commerical G-Sensor game – Marble Worlds 2

Marble World is a version of “guide the ball down the hill“- game which has been around since the ZX Spectrum. Whats different these days is that we are not controlling the ball with our joystick anymore.

Marble Worlds 2 is only the second commercial game I know of that uses the G-sensor, the other being Resco Bubbles.

In Marble World 2 you guide your Marble through the isometric 3D scenery of Marble Worlds collecting gems and solving puzzles as you go. The game is large and you can explore one hundred play areas across 5 different themed worlds.

Use features such as bounce pads, air blowers, jet holes and exploding bombs whilst avoiding the evil marbles. Marble Worlds is a highly addictive and playable challenge, and hours of fun.

The game now features full touch screen control and but also supports the accelerometer on the HTC Diamond series devices. I have tried it successfully on the HTC Touch HD, where it gives an amazing giant-screen experience. Improvements over Marble World 1 include a new gaming engine which now supports more detailed graphics, an updates user interface, and many additional new features.

  • Touch screen control
  • Accelerometer (tilt control)
  • Air Blowers to float on
  • Rebounders to bounce off extra fast
  • Trampolines to bounce extra high
  • Energy draining water
  • Slippery Ice
  • Switches and changing scenery
  • Bombs and exploding blocks
  • Bridges to cross gaps and chasms
  • See through fences and glass panels
  • Jet holes to propel your marble sky high
  • Portals to warp from one place to another
  • Evil marbles that zap your strength
  • Checkpoints and save game feature
  • Popup hints to aid puzzle solving
  • Practice level feature
  • High score table!

The game is on sale for $14.95/£9.95. While this is well within the range of most Windows Mobile games a rather contentious issue is that 4Pocket sells the same game for the iPhone for only $2.99 with essentially the same content.

We hope to have a full video review later.

Navtris – navi-pad and G-sensor enabled Tetris game for HTC Touch Diamond/Pro

Navtris is a small Christmas-themed Tetris game for the HTC Touch Diamond and Pro which makes use of the unique hardware on the devices.

Using the device sensors, the Tetris bricks can be moved and rotated based on the readings from accelerometer and scrollwheel sensors.

Playing instructions:

Bricks can be moved by tilting your device to the left or right, or by using the left or right key.

Bricks can be rotated by using the scrollwheel (both directions), or by using the up/enter key (only clockwise direction).

Bricks can be dropped to the bottom by using the “down” key.

See the video below for the app in action.

Cab files for installing the game can be downloaded from this XDA-Developer thread here.

Create your own Teeter levels!

Teeter is the incredible addictive Accelerometer-based maze game that ships on the HTC Touch Diamond and Pro. Unfortunately it is so addictive that many owners have already beat the 30 levels and are left wanting more.

Fortunately the layout for each level are stored in simple text files, but creating your own from first principles can be quite difficult. Fortunately Alp Trex from XDA-Developers.com has made it easy, by creating a level editor for the game.

The software, which runs on the desktop, does not allow you to create levels beyond 30 (a limitation of the Teeter game), but does allow you to modify the existing levels. The levels are stored in simple text files named 1.txt, 2.txt etc, and need to be copied from the \Windows directory on your smartphone. Because the new levels will overwrite the old it is a good idea to back up the existing files in a safe location, then copy them into the Teeter Level Editor directory, from where they can then be modified by the app.

To make the modified levels available on your smartphone they need to be copied back to the \windows directory. The files are however write-protected, therefore you will need an app like Total Commander to actually copy the files .

After that, start Teeter and enjoy your new levels. Here is a WMPoweruser level (right click and save as) just for our readers to download. Again, don’t forget to first back up your old levels, and remember that you can only overwrite the old levels with an app like Total Commander.

If anyone makes any levels they consider great, leave a link in the comments and we will make it available to all our other readers.

Sensory Overload now works on the Samsung Omnia

Sensory Overload, a game by Koushik Dutta which uses the G-sensor and hardware graphics acceleration to produce a great visual and user experience has now been adjusted to work on the Samsung Omnia. This should be a real treat for Omnia owners, as they have not shared in the wealth of accelerometer applications which have come out to support the HTC Touch Diamond and Pro series.

The work done to make this port possible should enable most graphics accelerated apps for the Diamond to work on the Omnia. Read more about this on Koushik’s blog.

See the video below for an idea what the stylish game entails, and download the application from here.
