HTC HD2 Android Port Going Faster Than The Speed Of Love (???)

It’s no question that many people have been asking for an Android port for their HD2, well it seems the Htc_Linux team is giving you it all at a fast speed. If you are not a follower of the leader, you will not know about the progress they have been having. In less than a week they have achieved many things, things that take other porting teams two or more to do. This speed is very surprising because just a little more than a month ago, having Android on the HD2 was impossible.

Here are the most recent achievements.

06/30/2010 zImage build with touchscreen, keypad, usb-host mode posted in build section.
06/30/2010 First version of Ubuntu for HD2 released in the Build section
07/01/2010 android with sense for HD2 in Build section

It comes a time in a man’s life when he has to make a hard decision, and it seems mine is coming soon. This weekend had brought some new thoughts in me regarding switching to Android, and I think I should tell you why a power user like me would do such a thing.

HTC HD2 Android Video

The Android port for the HTC HD2 has been making news on just about ever site that reports on Windows Mobile news, now this video is here to give you a preview of what you would get if you tried it. The video illustrates the Herat loading, startup, and app loading process of this port. The port is a bit slow, and I say this with experience but that comes from it being one of the first releases.

The port has the new Mario wallpaper that was released on XDA earlier this week, and the main build is Android 2.1.

If you follow the developers, you will know that the development of Android for the HD2 is the fastest in history. Everyday he tweets about the newest updates for the port. Today one of the developers figured out the Wi-Fi connection. Yesterday they figured out all the sensors like G-sensor, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor, don’t forget the compass support. Tomorrow ill bet they will get 3G going, and in two weeks… They should have the GPS support handy.

I will try and get another statement from the developer and how this has all been going for them, and will post it here.

Android 2.1 + Sense UI On Touch Pro2

With the growing popularity of Android OS in the mobile smartphone world, Window Mobile developers have kicked it into over drive, and have been working ever so hard to getting the latest software on our device. In the latest release by XDAndroid, they managed to get the latest Android software(Android 2.2 has yet to be released) running on the Touch Pro2, with the software we all love to see and use… Sense UI.

Now they did not only add new software, but they put some new fixes into it. This release comes with a host of new fixes that can be easily seen from their well documented change log:

NEW Apr 23 New 2 new builds added to the download section. First we have a 2.1 Android Open Source Project build. This is built by phh using stinedb’s new kitchen. Second we have 2.1 with SENSE UI! Thanks to Klinux for his work on this sqsh!
NEW Apr 23 New zimage adds 17MB RAM for Android OS use.
NEW Apr 23 New Startup Utility updates: WinMo auto backlight off/on thanks to bedoig Thread Here
3/31 Startup Utility Updates: Force CDMA checkbox enables the use of MrPippys combined CDMA & GSM Rootfs! (For .rar CDMA users add "htc_hw.force_cdma=1" to your startup.txt!)

3/31 System.sqsh from babijoee! Adds Gallery, Calculator, and Desktop Clock. Updates to some apps as well!
