Mozilla :”We’re not looking to bringing Firefox itself to Windows Phone 7 at this point.”
While everyone else is trying to be everywhere all the time, Mozilla at present does not think they need a Windows phone 7 presence.
During an interview with Softonic, Jay Sullivan, VP of Products at Mozilla Corporation said they were not a present thinking of Windows Phone 7.
Jay said:
At the moment we are focusing on Android in terms of the browser. For those other platforms we may do things like Firefox Home, so you can fire up any browser and get to your Firefox data. We’re not looking to bringing Firefox itself to Windows Phone 7 at this point.
While we understand the difficulty in getting an alternate rendering engine on Windows Phone 7 it is a bit disappointing not to see any commitment to bringing a FireFox Home-type app to Windows phone 7, which should generally be very simple to develop and support their brand on Windows Phone 7 also.

Terra Explorer on WP7
Terra Explorer introduces search as a central theme in the browsing experience. The concept is based on the way some people prefer to explore the web – by searching first, then browsing.
Terra Explorer was released to the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace on March 18th and features major search engines incorporated into the browser and allows the searching of the web, news, local, wiki, video and images added.
It supports French, German, Italian, Spanish and English and revolutionizes the mobile web browsing experience for Windows Phone 7.

No Opera 11 for Windows Mobile, possibly for Windows Phone “when and where there is a business case for doing so”

A sad farewell to a Windows Mobile stalwart
Opera has announced in a forum post that they will no longer be releasing new versions of their browser for Windows Mobile.
Noting that there have not been new devices released with the mobile OS for some time (not really true) and that its market share is rapidly shrinking (certainly true) , they claim “the platform can no longer provide the revenue potential that Opera Software would need to keep investing in it.”
They did not however close the door on all Microsoft mobile operating systems, saying about Windows Phone.
Regarding Microsoft’s new platform, Windows Phone 7, Opera is continuously evaluating that and other platforms and we will make products available when and where there is a business case for doing so.
Opera Mobile 10 and Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile will continue to be available for download.
The Opera Mobile browser was instrumental in keeping Windows Mobile competitive in its last 3 years, so it is sad to see a pillar of the operating system and user experience on these devices go away. However on Windows Phone 7, I believe rather unexpectedly, the IE browser has been more than adequate, and of course we are expecting even more from an updated IE9 browser some months time.

7 Tab Browser: Now with bookmark support
7 Tab Browser has been updated to version 1.6 and now supports bookmark functionality.
7 Tab Browser lets you easily switch between tabs and access your favourite websites quickly. When you leave the browser, your sites you were browsing are saved, so you don’t need to remember which pages you were on. 7 Tab Browser also features Dual Mode, which places one browser directly above another browser window, allowing you to track two sites at the same time. Useful for tracking sports games, stocks, or other real-time events.
The browser now supports bookmarks, improved dual mode, and has received numerous bug fixes.

Surfy alternate IE shell for WP7 having a hard time getting to market
Alternate IE shells are pretty popular on Windows Phone 7, and Surfy is the latest to try and bring something new to the Windows Phone 7 browsing experience.
The browser offers tabbed browsing, and features a slightly more intuitive method of switching tabs than the native IE browser.
The app features:
- Tabbed browsing. Flick to move between tabs or jump to a tab by selecting it from a list of all tabs.
- Full-screen viewing. Maximise screen real estate by switching to full-screen view. Switch back instantly using a semi-transparent button.
- Open links in their own tabs. With Surfy you can open links either in the same tab or in a new tab.
- Autocomplete – searches as you type.
- Supports landscape and portrait orientations.
- Supports locking of page orientation.
- Assisted browsing with auto-complete. Surfy suggests links by searching the web as you type in the URL box.
- Set your default page.
- Manage Favorites.
- Share a page/link via email.
- Open in Internet Explorer.
- Comprehensive help – A user feedback system where you can report a bug, or suggest new features to help make Surfy better.
- Plus many more features in the making.
- It’s free!
There were some confusion earlier that the Marketplace Certification has turned down the app due to duplicating the IE browser too closely, due to “failed testcase 2.1 because its primarily functionality is a web browsing experience“. It later turned out this was however a miscommunication, and the Surfy husband and wife coding team have been asked to re-submit their app.
Surfy should therefore not yet be available, but should hit the Marketplace soon.
Opera Web Browser Coming To Windows Phone 7 At CTIA? (Updated – No)
Opera Software today announced that its web browser is coming to Windows Phone 7. Opera will show the browser at CTIA Wireless conference to be held next week. Its a surprising move by Opera, but the question here will be whether Microsoft will allow 3rd party web browsers into the marketplace. Recently, there were reports that Microsoft has blocked app by Daniel Vaughan and Katka Vaughan because of the reason its primarily functionality is a web browsing experience. I’m not sure its true, but will update the same when I get more info. Also we have reached out to Opera about this matter. Will update on that too, when we get info from them.
Opera full press release after the break,
Update: Here is the Opera’s comments,
Yes indeed the press release is correct. It is WIndows 7, I know it is a bit confusing but Windows 7 (the desktop OS) is also used on certain tablets and touch desktop devices. This version of Opera Mobile 11 is for the first time to optimized for tablets – hence the connection.
Hope that clarifies it.
So no Opera Web Browser for Windows Phone 7 for now.
