Asphalt 5 for Windows Phone video demo
For some unexplained reason Asphalt 5, the racing game, is still only available in Latin America.
Symbian blog Nokialino.it seems to have gotten their hands on a copy of the game and have posted this demo video, which looks pretty good, with a high frame rate and simple controls.
Presumably the game will eventually become available in the rest of the world soon. Look forward to our full review when this does happen.
Xbox LIVE Deal Of The Week In Windows Phone Marketplace: Monopoly
Overall Score: 5/5
First of all, you must actually like the board game Monopoly in order to like this phone game! It’s basically the exact board game, but virtual. Everything works perfectly, so you can simply experience Monopoly as it should be played.
Gameplay: 5/5 (Weighted to be 2x more important)
The controls are simple and effective. If you’re ever unsure of what a button will do, just hold over it with your finger and the button will reveal its title. The controls allow you to enjoy Monopoly. Gameplay is essentially the classic board game (don’t buy the game if you don’t like Monopoly in real life!). Fans of Monopoly will enjoy the multiple AI (computer opponents) difficulties and the ability to play with their friends (up to 4 people can play).
Asphalt 5 now in Marketplace … in Brazil

About a month ago Microsoft teased Asphalt 5 as an upcoming must have game.
The game is now available in Marketplace, but it seems only to Brazilian Windows Phone 7 users, where it will set you back a steep R$9.99, rather much for a game which is not Xbox Live enabled.
The game promises highly polished HD graphics which lets you see every detail and animation of the track as you speed over snow, mud, dirt and more in 12 beautiful locations around the world including St. Tropez, Aspen and Las Vegas.
If you are lucky enough to find yourself in Brazil, you can find the app in Marketplace here now.

Developer demoes real-time Windows Phone 7 vs Windows 8 game play
The developer of Air Soccer Fever, one of the first Windows Phone 7 games which offer real time wireless game play between two opponents, have now also ported their game to Windows 8 tablets, and have preserved the device to device game play.
In the demo video above we have a Windows Phone 7 handset playing against a Windows 8 tablet.
With many Windows Phone 7 developers likely to port their apps to Windows 8, it is likely we will see an increasing number of applications offer similar cross-platform functionality.

This game is very addictive, download it now from Windows Marketplace.

Xbox LIVE Deal Of The Week: Pocket God
Pocket God published by ngmoco:) is now on sale in Windows Phone Marketplace under Xbox LIVE Deal Of the week. The game has some great visuals and a decent gameplay.
From our review of this game,
Visuals: 5/5
The game looks great, from the cute tribe people to the lightning and fire. The sounds are also pretty good; each character’s action has a playful sound to it. You can even tap your finger on the screen with the beat of the music and your minions will start dancing.
Read our full review here. The game is now available for $1.99 down from its regualr price of $2.99. Find it here from the marketplace.
Pac-Man Kart Rally gets a massive discount to $2.99 in response to terrible reviews

After some pretty terrible reviews, with complaints about the controls, graphics and game play, the consensus amongst buyers seems to be that the $4.99 price for Pac-Man Kart Rally does not seem to be worth it.
One reviewer, DuanieBaby, noted:
Trailed Version. 1. The framerate is a little on the poor side, it feels clumpy and bulky. The game does not run very smooth at all. 2. The sound is appalling! I cannot stress just how annoying it is. I was curious to find out why the game’s volume was automatically muted… and then I found out. 3. For what this game offers, it is way too over-priced. I find it hard to comprehend why it’s £3.99, I would be reluctant to fork out £2.29 for this. Overall a poor attempt, even the online achievement wasn’t thought out too well. I’m commander Shepard and this isn’t my favourite game in the galaxy. [HTC HD7]
Seemingly responding very rapidly to this criticism, Microsoft has dropped the price of the game today to $2.99 (£2.29). That of course makes the game and its defects much more palatable, but it does leave us with the question if early adopters will get a refund or not. I suspect not, but with the terrible reviews probably not too many people have been affected.

Tip Tap Tones: Microsoft Research release a Mandarin teaching tool for Windows Phone
Microsoft Research has released an interesting application designed to make it slightly easier to learn Mandarin.
Tip Tap Tones represents a new way to “sharpen your ears” and retrain your brain to identify the foreign sounds of Mandarin Chinese, in a game format that is challenging and enjoyable for learners of all levels.
Tip Tap Tones helps one to identify the sounds and tones of Mandarin Chinese. In the game, you listen to a Mandarin sound before tapping the button representing the tone and syllable you thought you heard. The game begins with just a single syllable and four tone options, but as you progress by giving correct responses, the sounds get faster and the number of confusable syllables increases. By making you pay close attention to small differences between similar sounds, Tip Tap Tones gets you learning to listen just like a native speaker.
The game should be an invaluable tool for anyone learning the Chinese Language.
Tip Tap Tones is free and can be found in Marketplace here.

At Last! Pac-Man Kart Rally will feature local wireless multiplayer

Microsoft called Windows Phone their handheld gaming console, but despite the presence of Xbox Live on the handsets there has been very little evidence of the real multi-player gaming we expect from a handheld console these days.
It seems that’s about to change, with WPCentral reporting that Pac-Man Kart Rally will feature wireless local multi-player gaming, a feature that Windows Phone should really have shipped with.
Pac-Man Kart Rally will be the first Xbox Live title with local Wi-Fi multiplayer, meaning two players on two handsets can play against each other on a wireless network. Local game-play makes network lag a non-existent problem, so the experience should be good.
The game even includes a multiplayer Achievement, ‘Unbeatable’, giving an incentive to encourage your buddies to buy a Windows Phone.
WPCentral expects the game to arrive this Wednesday, May 2, starting a new area of a real Microsoft handheld console.

Talking Tomcat finally makes its way to Windows Phone
We are not sure how many people were waiting for this craze from 2010, but if you have been pinning for the popular Talking Tomcat from iPhone fame, we can now report that the app has safely landed in the Windows Phone Marketplace.
The cat will will let you pet its head or body, poke his tail, repeat everything you say with a funny voice and of course, like all cats, allow you the honour of feeding it.
At least the asking price, free, is not any barrier to entry. Talking tomcat can be found in Marketplace here. Be sure to be on a WIFI connection, as the 31 Mb download will not work over 3G.
