Glu’s Contract Killer coming to Xbox Live (Video trailer)

Glu games will soon be delivering another of their mobile games to Windows Phone 7.

WPCentral reports Contract Killer is coming soon to Xbox Live.

The game descriptions reads:

They might call you an enforcer, or an assassin. Call it what you like – you’re a CONTRACT KILLER.
Pulled into a world of bounty hunters, mobsters and criminals, you must check in with your contacts and accept SECRET MISSIONS that only you can handle. Select your WEAPON OF CHOICE from an inventory of sniper rifles, assault rifles and machine guns. Locate your target, zoom in, take aim and GO FOR THE HEADSHOT to earn cold hard cash. You might eliminate a crime boss and escape without being spotted, or you might walk straight into an AMBUSH…

The game will support downloadable content via Microsoft Points to refill your energy, but fortunately this is an optional feature. Points can also be used to purchase better gear.

Blackberry Playbook gets Angry Birds Space before Windows Phone

In a bit of a slap in the face of Windows Phone users, Rovio released Angry Birds Space for the Blackberry Playbook before releasing the game for Windows Phone 7.

While it could be argued that there are more Blackberries out there than Windows Phones, there is only around 2 million Blackberry Playbooks vs an estimated 11 million Windows Phones.

Of course some may argue Microsoft only have themselves to blame – while the other platforms support OpenGL and native code, Windows Phone is the only one which requires a whole re-write of the app.

Of course Apollo should address at least the native code issue, but unless Microsoft puts a lot more effort in bringing Xbox games to Windows Phone the OpenGL issue will remain a thorn in the side of the platform.

The $0.99 Xbox Live collections continues to grow, with Fruit Ninja joining Angry Birds and other classic mobile games at undercutting the usual $2.99 lowest price point for Xbox Live games.

Fruit Ninja scored 5/5 in our full review, which can be seen here so is definitely a worthwhile buy at the price.

Taptitude developers getting over 1 million ad impressions per day, earns $100,000 in Windows Phone Marketplace

Taptitude is a game by 4Bros Studios which consists of a collection of mini-games that the developer regularly updates with extra mini-games, and which are tied together by in-game upgrades and achievements, which keeps current users engaged with the app.

It seems their development strategy is doing pretty well, with the team seeing an exponential increase in their ad impressions in recent months, seemingly related to an influx of new users to Nokia’s new handsets.

This has seen the team recently cross the $100,000 revenue mark from their game, and at the moment are earning around $1400 per day.

The team notes:

Windows Phone is a rapidly growing market where indie developers can be successful. We are looking forward to an even better second year as indie game developers, and can’t wait for Windows 8!

Real Football a Chinese Marketplace exclusive

Here is a rather interesting development. Way back in August 2010 Gameloft promised to bring a number of games to Windows Phone 7. Included in the list was Real Soccer 2.

In the end though it seems the game never quite made it to Marketplace, but now Real Football, also by Gameloft, has made an appearance, but only in the Chinese Marketplace.

The game is officially licenced, allowing you to play the 8 big leagues, and 245 teams with real players names (FIFPro license).

The game also features

Unique game modes, including Enter the the Legend (play your favourite players) and Club Master (Manage your team struggle throughout the season).
Like television voice commentary.
Feel the atmosphere of 14 football pitches, including Milan, Manchester and Madrid.
Precise operation: accurate virtual arrow keys to control players,easily select players using the touch screen.

Xbox Live price reduction permanent

Microsoft recently reduced the price of popular but old Xbox Live titles like Angry Birds to only $0.99, well below the $2.99 Xbox Live price barrier.

Now MobilityDigest has been told “This is a permanent reduction designed to provide more options for mobile gamers.”

Hopefully this will establish a new low price tier which will help to address the accusation that Windows Phone top tier games are a lot more expensive than on other platforms.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 coming to Windows Phone in July 2012

Sonic The Hedgehog II: Episode 2 will be the fist game which allows Windows Phone players to continue their game on the Xbox 360 console.

Its arrival will therefore be a very exciting development for Windows Phone and Xbox 360 integration. Pocketgamer has been able to pin down the release date of the game with Sega.

Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode II will arrive on iOS and Tegra-powered Android devices in May. Owners of other Android gadgets will see the game in June, with Windows Phone punters able to get their hands on it in July.

We look forward to seeing this feature coming to more games in the future, to finally fulfil one of the promises of Xbox Live gaming.

Next Week’s Xbox Live title–Monster Island by Miniclip

Next week’s Xbox Live title is Monster Island by Miniclip. It is basically a cross between Atomic Cannon and Angry Birds, where the aim is to use a variety of monster-themed grenades to blow up an objective. See the iPhone version trailer above for an idea of the game play.

The game comes with five different kinds of monster grenades and four large sets of levels, and will also feature optional microtransactions, allowing players to purchase level skips and solutions with Microsoft Points.

The game is coming to Marketplace on Wednesday, April 18 and will cost $2.99.
