Skulls of the Shogun – Developer Interview

Windows Phone hasn’t had a lot of exclusive games, so when I saw that Skulls of the Shogun, a turn based strategy game, was coming out exclusively to windows phone I was very excited. I was able to chat with two of the devs behind one of the biggest smart phone games of the upcoming Fall which is also Microsoft platform exclusive to boot. Hope you enjoy.

I just wanted you to introduce to yourselves to start off.

Borut – I’m Borut Pfeifer and I’m the engineer, designer in the game.

Ben – He’s actually the lead programmer *laughs* I [Ben Vance] also do programming, designing and writing as well.

Since this is a phone site, what do you guys use for your daily phones?

Borut- I have a Windows Phone; an HD 7;

Ben – And I recently switched from an old iPhone to an Android Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I was actually eyeing the new Nokia’s…ahh..that just came out, but I had to get…had to get a phone before they came out, what was that late March? I couldn’t wait.

Borut: I am thinking about upgrading to one of those now too. Pretty good.

Wanted to ask you about the development of your game. I know that a lot of our readers are developers and would be interested. I know that this game has been in gestation for a while…I remember reading previews almost two years ago. How did the development of the game change over time? Best Windows Phone gamer in the world says Final Fantasy and Super Monkeyball II coming to Xbox Live

According to Zebrasqual, who has been crowned the best windows phone gamer in the world based on his large number of Achievements, we can expect two major games to show up on Windows Phone soon.

The first is Final Fantasy , which is likely a mobile version of the 1987 game which was published on the iPhone in March 2011. See some iPhone screen shots below.

The next major game is Sega’s Super Monkeyball II: Sakura Edition, which would be a follow-up to the original Super Monkeyball which did make it to Xbox Live some time ago and which has only just been released for the iPhone and Android.

Unfortunately no ETA accompanied the leak, but I suspect E3 2012, which starts on the 5th June, would be a good date to unveil these titles.

Rocky Racer is a combination of a racer and shooter game.
You navigate your space vessel between craters and lava streams.
By tilting your phone you should be able to avoid all upcoming obstacles.

Nokia and Sesame Street brings 3 more titles to Windows Phone

Nokia has extended their collaboration with Sesame Workshop. After bringing the Nokia exclusive “100th Day of School” and Learning to Read with Elmo to Windows Phone, Nokia has announced three new titles on the platform.

The games are “Abby in Wonderland,” “Big Block Party” and “Color Carnival” and are aimed at pre-school kids, where they will help build early reading skills, color recognition, recipes and problem-solving. The apps feature fill screen illustrations and musical fun to help early readers have fun while learning new skills.

The books include optional narration with read-along text that highlights each word to aid understanding and to help young readers follow along with the reading. Also, Elmo leads the way with questions and comments about each page in the story.

The games are $1.99, available on all devices and can be found at the links above.

Microsoft drops the price of 6 Xbox Live titles to only $0.99

Possibly finally catching up with the pricing system used by the rest of the smartphone world, Microsoft has announced that it has dropped the price of 6 popular Xbox Live titles to only $0.99. Previously the lowest price tier allowed for an Xbox Live tile was $2.99.

The titles consist of:

Max and the Magic Marker, Special Edition(Review)

Will Angry Birds Space be a Nokia Lumia exclusive?

Here is a little titbit to ponder over. We all know about the recent brouhaha over whether Rovio was planning on creating an Angry Birds Space game for Windows Phone 7, which was eventually settled by Rovio Chief Executive Mikael Hed simply saying: "We are working towards getting Angry Birds Space to WP7."

What was not widely reported was this follow-up statement:

"We are working closely together with Nokia to bring our games to their platforms," Hed said. "Our mutual goal is to bring the best possible experience to our fans, including all fans using Windows Phone devices."

Nokia has been working with EA to bring 27 games to Windows Phone 7 but these games will be timed exclusives for an unknown period, likely at least 3 months. If Nokia is bankrolling development of Angry Birds Space it is quite likely these games will join the exclusive Nokia list.
