Angry Birds Space Not Coming To Windows Phones Anytime Soon
Last week we speculated that Angry Birds Space may come to Windows Phone platform later after the release on iOS and Android devices, but its not going to happen. Rovio Entertainment, the developer behind Angry Birds franchise has told Bloomberg that they have no plans to develop this game edition for Windows Phones.
Peter Vesterbacka, chief marketing officer of Rovio told,
“We’re the No. 1 app in the Windows Phone app store, but it’s a big undertaking to support it, and you have to completely rewrite the application,”
“If you look at activations, Apple’s iOS and Android are clearly bigger than any other platform,”
“We want to be on all screens, but we have to consider the cost of supplying the smaller platforms. With Windows Phone it’s a lot of work to technically support it.”
I think the lack of native code access & openGL support in the current Windows Phone OS version makes the game developers job tough to port their games from other platforms. I hope Microsoft will solve this issue with Windows Phone Apollo.

Thanks to Matti for the heads up.
Update: Rovio Chief Executive Mikael Hed has confirmed Rovio is working on Angry Birds Space for Windows Phone, but did not announce any delivery date.

Xbox LIVE Deal Of The Week : COLLAPSE
COLLAPSE is a little puzzle game where you destroy clusters of three or more blocks to win. This game comes with a great greast play. Under Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week, Collapse will be on sale for $1.99 instead of $2.99.
From our review of this game,
COLLAPSE is very simple, and can practically be played by tapping madly on the screen until you clear everything. However, it also has some more challenging gameplay modes like the Strategy modes, and it presents new Expert goals for each level, giving you unique targets to shoot for when playing. The most important thing about the game is that it’s actually fun to play. Once you get about thirty minutes into the game, you are really drawn into it thanks to the always changing gameplay style. There are boss levels, puzzle levels, double sided levels, and more. There are even upgrades you can buy using points earned from playing the game. It’s an extremely fun and easy to play puzzle game.

CNN Mobile a Nokia Exclusive for 90 days – a clue to the exclusivity period for other apps and games?

CNN is releasing an app exclusively for Nokia’s Lumia handsets.
The CNN App for Windows Phones will provide the latest news and video from CNN’s reporting around the globe.
The panorama app will allow sections to be pinned to the home screen and offer a live tile for real-time news updates, and direct access to iReport, CNN’s participatory news community. Users will have the ability to submit an iReport while simultaneously capturing the event.
CNN has in a press release also revealed the length of the timed exclusive – a full 90 days before the app will be made available for other Windows Phone 7 handsets.
Of course the CNN app is not the only one coming exclusively to Nokia handsets. There is also a long list of great games which are also timed Nokia exclusives, but the length of these exclusives were not revealed.
If those were also 3 months it would certainly be long enough to make new Windows Phone 7 users want to choose Nokia handsets over other OEMs, but not so long as to make other WP7 users resort to piracy.
Do our readers agree? Let us know below.
A list of the 27 EA games with timed Nokia Lumia exclusives

Taptitude hits 100,000 installs, near $100,000 revenue

While we are on the topic of Marketplace success stories, mini-game maker FourBrosStudio has tweeted that they have now reached 100,000 installs of their app Taptitude.
Taptitude is a collection of themed mini-games which is updated weekly with further game content, and at present includes 53 seperate mini-games. All the users has allowed the company to earn revenue close to $100,000 from ads from the free games and produce another mini-game every week.
The company has posted that the secret of mobile games ad monetization is to keep users coming back every day so the ad revenue pays off vs. selling the app.
With Tapitude the company has tied the numerous mini-games together by using a common coin system which earns you stars for unlocking other games or to spend on upgrades such as ‘double jump’ or ‘pimp hat costume’. They also have a few characters that star in several of the mini-games like ‘bally bounce’, ‘bally ninja’ or ‘bally drop’.
The company believes they will continue to be successful with their approach, which benefits from not having each mini-game fighting its way up the charts with each release, as it would have to if it was released separately.
While the correct approach for extracting value from Marketplace remains debatable, what is not is that the Windows Phone 7 user base has gained enough scale to start making serious money for developers, which should only help draw more of them to the OS.
