Coolest HTC HD2 ROM(Other than ours which will be updated next week)

Well guys, after long awaiting for T-mobile’s local stores to get some HD2 stock, I have given up and ordered one off Ebay, so while waiting for it, here is the first ROM I will flash. This ROM is done by Mr.MAKK, who I have known for a long time to be an awesome ROM cooker, with ROMS that come fully packed with everything and more. He has released an HTC HD2 ROM, and I am happily anticipating my HD2 so I will be able to flash it and love it.

HTC HD2 Metal Detector

Metal detector is a very cool feature for any Android phone owner, and our very own HD2 can also do this. The HD2 application for this is a very cool, sexy, and functional app that gives the phone the ability to find your money that you lost in your house seats.

It comes in a simple cab file and you here is what you get… for free I might add:

Current status of this app
This is far from finished, but as we both are quite busy at the moment, we’d like to share the current beta of this app.

All gauges are fully functional. Clicking sound and vibration working too. You may turn them on/off using the corresponding buttons on the left.
To exit the app, use the lower right button.

The camera button has a new meaning as of v0.2.0.0:
It enables a test mode, where sensor readings are simulated. Use the sliders to advance the main/aux gauges

todo’s we’re aware of:
- artwork needs final polishing
- sliders do slide but have no effect whatsoever, temporarily used for debugging
- screenshot (camera) button switches debugging mode (this will change in a final release)
- detection algorithm still crappy
- sound and vibration status not saved on exit

Testing
Place your device flat on a surface. After starting the app, the gauge should show zero. If it doesn’t, take your device and write a couple of "eights" in the air (this is to get rid of magnetism which might get stuck in the sensors).
Then use a pair of scissor or something the like and move it slowly to the right side of your device. At a distance of approx. 5 cm. the gauge should start to move. Take your device and move it with its right side near metals, and see if the gauge shows values.

Trade Up your Iphone for the HD2

It seems T-mobile figured out the formula of getting more sales and new costumers, and with these new deals they might get more HD2 sales. The offer is only for participating T-mobile stores, but if you can find a store with this deal and some HD2 in stock here is what they require. One, an Iphone. That is all, if you have an Iphone and would like to upgrade to 1Ghz goodness, then this deal could help.

The deal does not pay for all the cost of your new HD2, it gives you store credit for your HD2 purchase. You can get as low as $100 credit and as much as $350, which if you remember is very close to the $450 HD2 price tag.

This could help people that need to save money, or cannot afford the HD2.

T-mobile HD2 Available Online, But not in Stores…. Yet!!

Today has been a pretty quiet day. Many people waiting for the HD2 to be restocked at their neighborhood stores, and now brighthand has some pretty “bright” news for us. They are reporting that after a long wait(for many people like me, 5 days is long), the device is available online for the first group of people that are lucky enough to get it while it last.

I myself have tried to order one online, but they do not offer it on upgrades, only for new costumers. With that all said, I called a few(9) T-mobile stores to get some information. In MN, all the HD2’s are sold out, and they say if we are lucky, Friday will bring more. In GA, all the HD2’s are sold out, and they are waiting for more, hopefully Friday.

I lastly called New York, New York. I called 3 stores in the city, and they all do not have any available and are waiting till friday when they might receive more. All three of the stores already began a list for people that are interested in it, and would like to reserve one. The list is getting very long from what they say and it might be a while till everyone gets a device.

I am pretty surprised about all this. I did not expect all this to happen for one device, I guess the US just love their big screened devices. Many people are resorting to Ebay to get their self a copy and that is a smart idea since they are going for around $500 dollars there.

If you are tired of waiting, Ebay, Amazon, Wirefly can all help you out, but for a very steep price.

HTC HD2 Future: Thoughts

With all this HD2 news this week being covered by not only us but other phone sites, I think its about time I put my thoughts up. As many of you know, I have been itching to get my hands on this new device. With many being sold in the first day, I was shot down, but here is what I thought about the device, even before buying it.

WP7S:
I have to start with the most popular topic. This is the next gen of goodness… many have been giving the HD2 a hard time for not being updated through MS or HTC.

Why its good for the HD2:

It uses the devices full power
The OS is more attractive
WP7S is smoother
WP7S is faster(From what MS says)
WP7S is better looking
WP7S is 1000X more integrated
WP7S has more Apps

Why its bad for the HD2:

WP7S kills many cool features the device prides its self on.
WP7S Will kill its Multi Tasking ability(for now)
WP7S Has limited Business Features
No Copy & Paste
No Sense UI
No Sense UI
No Sense UI
I do not thin I need to say this anymore… No sense UI.

As you can see… the list has both good and bad sides. I think I would love to have this new OS in my hands. I am more of a social person, not a business user. The device will fit perfectly with my addiction with Pandora and Movies.

I think I would love if the Port htcpedia becomes the perfect version, and I can flash… and live happily ever after.

T-mobile Future:

After the first 4 days of being on the network, the device is doing pretty good for its self. I think with those numbers, T-mobile might see a huge sales potential in the device and make a bigger attempt at marketing and offer more devices.

The device will most likely sell a lot on America’s fourth biggest network. The sale numbers will not only be outstanding… but will finally show people the true goodness of Windows Mobile and people can finally have something to talk about, other than the I stinking phone.

The Outcome of the device being on T-mobile USA:

Sales Might bring Windows Mobile back to the US eyes
T-mobile will have a truly exciting WP device
HTC will becoming increasing Popular
The Iphone will be sandbagged due to the HD2 being so!! awesome
HTC will see how open the US market is, and bring in more devices, instead of us waiting.

The Life Span:

I know HTC, they like to have new devices out there back to back, and so I thought the lfe span should be important to talk about. The HTC HD2 while being a very awesome device is exactly like every generation of HTC device. HTC has managed to surprise us every year with a new BADASS device, and last year the HD2 was that device.

I think in 5 months(at least) there will be a new BADASS device and the HD2 will be like this years HD1, old news. The new device should be a fairly large screen device, AMOLED, fast, slim, sexy, keyboard and cheaper. It should be announced by late august, and released by the holiday.

My final thoughts:

The HD2 is the greatest Windows Phones yet, but as time goes by many will notice how HTC works. They do things like apple. They release device, and leave out some features that they know would be killer, and then they add it to their next device and tried to sell more and more. Apple does the same things, but instead of hardware they do software.

I am still looking for my HD2, but in a couple of months I would have moved on to the Toshiba K01, because I cannot live without my keyboard.

Again, these are my personal thoughts of the HD2. The device in my mind is great, but by summer it will be just the same as everything else(well everything else will have 3 buttons to the device 5.)

HTC HD2 controlling a droid!

It’s not quite a Parrot AR.Drone, but it’s what I can do in an afternoon with left a bunch of leftovers.

I’m trying to show off what WM can do apart from being a very good mobile email platform.

I’m using the HD2 with its accelerometer to send data about a heading to an Arduino via bluetooth. The Arduino then controls the motor speed, enabling turning and things. Currently, there’s a computer sat between the HD2 and the Arduino because I don’t have a serial bluetooth module. (The computer just takes the bluetooth data and dumps it down a USB cable).

What do you lot think? What can I add?

HTC Steps back on HD2 free WM7 upgrade

We recently reported on the tweet from HTC Russia saying the HD2 will be receiving a free update, well HTC is stepping back from that tweet. In a new tweet from HTC Russia, they say the previous tweet they had on the HD2 getting a free upgrade to WM7 was posted by error and they do not have confirmation on that just yet.

That tweet seems a little fishy, their are two ways you should take this. The first, this could just be a tweet that HTC is making because they do not want the news to be out so early even though they know it will happen. This could also be a genuine error and they are not actually sure about that this early. Either way, if you were going out today to get the HD2 because of the previous tweet then, you might want to rethink if you want to risk it, but I would, it is a great device and is also an HTC–by saying this, I mean it has XDA on its back, so if HTC cannot deliver an update, XDA will.

HD2 Touchflo 2.5 Against regular 2.5 & 2.0

Today I flashed my Touchpro2(if you remember, I am a flashaholic) and the update brought the new Sense Ui that was made for the HD2 T-mobile version to my phone. I had 2 other devices that had the other versions of sense UI, so I put them together in this video that shows you what they look like next to each other and the updates that I have noticed. HTC HD2 for T-Mobile Germany now available

The HTC HD2 now available on T-Mobile Germany. Price without contract 599 €. Various options like a monthly (think it was a 24 month contract) fee of around 35-41 € and 229€ immediately. I remember also some cheaper ones (279€ immediately, lower monthly fee)

-Update: Today they changed their ad again and the price and contract options disappeared..

HD2 Welcomes Android in a recent Picture

HTC Ceo said on the release of the HD2 that it will be a Windows Mobile only phone. In a recent twit by Arne Hess, it shows the beastly HD2, but what is that in its screen. It is running android in the picture, which does not seem to be Windows Mobile the last time I checked.

Edit: Recently found out this is in fact a great photoshop picture. Still up because its a good photo. He got me good……. well at least we can laugh about it, as well as Wmepxerts are laughing about it too. good one

Dell Mini comes with a Gift for HD2 Owners

The new HD2 comes with something WM has not had before, capacitive screen which can not use a stylus…. until today. Dells new smartphone that was announced recently has something special that no other phone has, a capacitive screen stylus. A stylus for a capacitive screen is something that has been unheard of before, because capacitive screens only respond to your fingers small electricity. It seems Dell has solved that problem and found a way to give its new phone an upper hand.

If you do not remember, the phone was suppose to be a WM phone, but it seems dell changed there mind and went with android. The phone looks great, a little like the keyboardless Palm Pre.

If your an HD2 owner, I bet you want to get this for your phone soon, and I know you want me to tell you where to find it. I do not know, but if someone finds out, let me know.

HD2 UK release date

Checking my pre-order on Clove, the site now says that the HD2 will arrive 2 days later than they oroginally thought. Damn, that means I won’t get it before my weekend in London when I was hoping to try it out.
