Suning already offering Windows Phones for pre-order in China

Chinese support for Windows Phone 7 is only expected in the second half od 2012, but it seems no-one told Suning, Microsoft’s Chinese retail partner for Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8.

The large retailer has been passing round a circular calling the 6 handsets, which include 3 Windows Phones, the “6 most anticipated products in the year of the dragon” and are offering the Nokia Lumia 800, 900 and HTC Titan for pre-order.

Buyers will have to put down ?100 (about 16 US$) to secure the phones, which translates into a ?300 reduction when the phone actually ships.

WPSauce notes that a pre-order 6 months before availability seems unlikely, suggesting Chinese support has been moved up quite a bit.

China has recently overtaken USA as the largest smartphone market in the world, and is one of Nokia’s stronger markets. I am sure the company cant wait to bring their devices to the region.

HTC releases new HTC Titan car cradle with “car panel” app

HTC has just released a new car cradle for the HTC Titan. The accessory features its own charging port to help manage the wires in the car, and features the stylish ball and joint design (pity about that awful plastic holder however).

More interesting however is that inserting your Titan into the cradle will activate both Bluetooth and the “car panel”.

We assume the car panel is a similar app to the bedside cradle app, which may include easily fingerable launchers to car navigation apps and other information.

It will cost a pricy £49.99 ( $79) to find out exactly what the car panel does, but when you do please let us know.

HTC Titan having antenna issues?

WPSauce reports that arguably the best Windows Phone out at the moment, the HTC Titan, has a fatal flaw, due to its metal unibody design.

They report dramatically poor call quality which they blame on the antenna, and HTC support appear to agree that there is a problem.

WPSauce notes it is rather suspicious that the new HTC Titan II has replaced the metal back with a new all-plastic design.

Given that the HTC Titan has extremely high satisfaction rates, is this evidence that we do not really use our phones for phone calls anymore, or is it possible that only some people are suffering this issue, possibly due to the phone not being seated properly in the unibody, which also contains the antenna?

HTC Titan users–100% satisfied

They say size is not everything, but the HTC Titan does not only have 4.7 inches but knows exactly how to use it, if the satisfaction rates for the handful is anything to go by, with buyers reporting being 100% satisfied with the device, making it the top-rated handset for customer satisfaction on AT&T.

The Samsung Focus S have slightly less equipment, which probably explains why it comes in at position 3, but that’s still pretty good from around 50 handsets in total.

HTC Titan reviewed against the Samsung Focus S

Mobiletechreview have had a showdown between the two giants of the US Windows Phone Market, trying to help buyers decide between the near identically priced devices.

There found numerous differences between the often identically specced devices, finding the Titan had the better display, the Focus S the better voice quality, the Titan the better build quality and also the better camera quality.

Panorama and Burst Camera Modes gets an update on the HTC Titan and HTC Radar

One of the best features of the HTC camera app in its new generation of devices is its multiple special modes, including a pretty good Panorama mode.

Now the apps appeared to have had an update via Marketplace, bringing unspecified improvements to the software.

Physical hack–Chrome your HTC Titan

FInalForce111 on XDA-Dev had grown tired of the black look on his HTC Titan, and with a bit of sandpaper (400, 240, 120, and 40 gr if you must know) and 2hr 20 min of time he managed to shine HTC Titan right up, exposing the aluminium underneath the layer of paint on the battery cover.

He notes he did not go all the way to a mirror finish as in the past this finish did not remain attractive for long.

Taking up the challenge BigT188 did the same, but replaced the finish afterwards with a white layer of paint.

AT&T HTC Titan owners complain of poor network performance

Some users on the WPCentral forums are complaining that their HTC Titan handsets on AT&T, where the handset is being touted as a 4G device, is downloading data half as fast as equivalent Android handsets.

Member gtg465x complains:

Forgot to give you an idea of how large the disparity is. At my house outside of Atlanta there is no advanced backhaul and I’m getting 2-3 Mbps on the Titan compared to 3-4 Mbps on my Android phones. In the city where there is advanced backhaul in place I’m maxing out around 4 Mbps on the Titan compared to 8-10 Mbps on my Android phones.

Various theories are put forward for the discrepancy, including poor antenna performance or the lack of actual HSDPA+ coverage, but the most nefarious is that HSDPA category 10, which enables 14.1 Mbps downloads, is not actually enabled on the handset, and with Windows Phone 7 users not generally able to lift the hood and kick the tires no-one is sure what the real cause is.

HTC Titan sold out on AT&T

It may have been a mistake to sell the HTC Titan for only 1c yesterday, as it seems the gigantic handset has proven so popular that it is now temporarily out of stock on AT&T.

The handset was already in short supply even before the promotion, and many users had difficulty taking advantage of the deal.

Hopefully Microsoft convinced AT&T to order a good supply, and the shortage is an indication of popularity and not just low stock.

HTC Titan vs Nokia Lumia 800–speed compared (video)

WPHome.nl have posted this video comparing the performance of the HTC Titan vs Nokia’s flagship, the Nokia Lumia 800.

The results are far from clear – while the HTC Titan was clearly launching apps faster (possible faster NAND or the influence of the 1.5 Ghz vs 1.4 Ghz processor) in using the apps the Lumia 800 also seems marginally faster.
