Hotfixes available for HTC Touch Pro 2 and Pure – auto-update for Windows Mobile NEARLY worked for once
The Update icon in Windows Mobile has always been a bit of a joke, but it seems there is some grumblings of it actually working for once.
With HTC’s recent release of updates for the AT&T HTC Tilt2 and HTC Pure, FuzeMobility reports that updates were in fact detected by the Windows Update utility on Windows Mobile, but when he attempted to use it it unfortunately failed to download the hotfixes.
Well since the Pure has a hotfix available I figured I’d see if it could be picked up from the phone so I went to Settings – System – AT&T Software Updates and shockingly it found an update. Then I tried to install it and seemingly nothing happened and then I got a text that it failed to work.I repeated a few times, soft reset, toggled the proxy…same result each time. … Of course, this is still a far cry from the phone telling me that there’s an update available without the user needing to do anything…and of course it didn’t actually install any updated. But hey, it’s baby steps, right?
Since we have to get the hotfix the usual way, read about them below:
Hotfix: Inconsistent Caller ID function on the HTC PURE/Tilt 2. | 12.17.2009
This Hotfix when installed prevents inconsistent behavior of the Caller ID function on the device
Hotfix: HTC PURE/ Tilt2 Freezes in SMS application. | 12.17.2009
This Hotfix when installed prevents the device from becoming sluggish and/or freezing in the SMS application on the device
The Tilt 2 downloads are available here and the Pure downloads are available here.

More HTC HD2, Diamond2 and Pro2 handwriting, camera hotfixes released
HTC’s support staff have clearly not gone home for Christmas yet. They have released two hotfixes, one for the HTC Touch Diamond 2 and HTC Touch Pro 2 which brings back hand writing recognition to these devices for users who prefer their graffiti to the hard and soft QWERTY keyboards
Update for HTC Touch Pro2 Handwriting
This update for HTC Touch Pro2 lets you write the way you want to. Now in addition to the full QWERTY keypad, simulating a full physical keyboard experience, HTC Touch Pro2 now offers handwriting recognition to give you more flexibility in your messaging to send messages to your loved ones.
Update for HTC Touch Diamond2 Handwriting
This update for HTC Touch Diamond2 lets you write the way you want to. Now in addition to the full QWERTY keypad, simulating a full physical keyboard experience, HTC Touch Diamond2 now offers handwriting recognition to give you more flexibility to send messages to your loved ones.
The last one, wrapped in HTC’s flowery language, seems to address a HTC HD2 issue where the camera can not write pictures to more than 8GB of a 16 GB memory card.
Update for HTC HD2 SD Card Storage Capacity
This update for HTC HD2 further extends support of the SD Storage Capability. Taking pictures with your 5 Megapixel lens and dual LED flash can only truly be appreciated at the maximum quality, and now with this update, you will be able to appreciate how much more you can store in your 8GB or more SD Card.

HTC Pure full review
Pocketnow have published their full review of the HTC Pure, AT&T’s HTC Touch Diamond 2. Like the review we posted earlier, they were not overly impressed, but still feel the device is a solid performer.
Below is their conclusion:
OVERALL IMPRESSION
The Pure is a great device for a number of reasons, but doesn’t really offer anything outstandingly new… other than Windows Mobile 6.5. It’s not smaller or thinner than the original Touch Diamond. It doesn’t bring anything innovative like the Verizon Imagio’s FLO TV network. It doesn’t have a fantastic keyboard or cool speakerphone/conference calling features like the Touch Pro2. The camera is a higher resolution 5MP, but the sensor is small and grainy with low image quality just like on all other cell phone cameras.Overall, I’m not terribly impressed with the Pure. However, for $150, it is a pretty good price for a solid Windows Phone on AT&T.

HTC Pure video review
Phonescoop have published their video review of the HTC Pure, AT&T’s version of the HTC Touch Diamond 2.
They conclude that there is not much which sets the device apart other Windows Mobile devices, but of course if you want Windows Mobile on AT&T there is only the LG Incite in the same form factor, which makes the device rather compelling.
HTC Pure now for free
If $150 was a bit too much for you, FuzeMobility reports on a way to get the HTC Pure, AT&T’s version of the HTC Touch Diamond 2 for free on a two year contract.
Letstalk, an AT&T reseller, is offering the HTC Pure for FREE with a new contract ($100 with a contract extension). To sweeten the deal they are throwing in a 4gb microSD card and free shipping.
The deal does not work in all areas, but if you are intending to buy a Pure its certainly worth a try.
AT&T HTC Tilt2 – no 3.5 mm headphone jack!!
AT&T has unboxed the HTC Pure and HTC Tilt 2 themselves, and have published this pretty nice video review.
Interestingly I noticed the Pure looks from some angles a lot live the Blackberry Storm, and I wonder if this does not explain the styling of the device.
Of note for the HTC Tilt2 is the disappointing lack of a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the device. The keyboard also lacks a numeric row, which some prefer and many do not. Whether the presence of a push to talk key makes up for this will be up to the buyers.

HTC Pure starting to show up on AT&T’s website
FuzeMobility is keeping a close eye on the HTC Pure situation, and reports that AT&T now has a support page for the Pure. The page is not complete yet, and most of the links lead to maintenance pages, but it should spring to life in the next few days.
They also report that if you are eager to get your hands on the device it seems most stores have stock already, and would hand one over if asked nicely.
Pocketnow also has a picture of the start menu, showing HTC and AT&T sensibly went for a 4 column row of icons, rather than the standard 3, and that the device comes with AT&T’s Java app store.
Tragedy – No 3.5 mm headphone jack on the AT&T HTC Pure
MobilityDigest has published some more pictures of the HTC Pure. Besides confirming that the device runs Windows Mobile 6.5 and TouchFlo3D 2.1, they unfortunately also confirmed the device does not sport a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
This would seem to be a real disadvantage for a device that is so consumer focussed, and certainly prevents it from competing with similarly specified devices on AT&T.
MobilityDigest also note the device sports 5 hours of talk time and 15 days of standby time, and speculate a October 4th launch day.

First real pictures of the AT&T bound HTC Pure
MobilityDigest have the first real pictures of the HTC Pure, AT&T’s version of the HTC Touch Diamond 2.
Unfortunately the pictures does not bring us much other detail, but at least it confirms the the device retains its 5 megapixel camera, and that orange colour sure looks like Windows Mobile 6.5’s colour scheme to us.

Cool HTC rumours from down under, GSM TP2 with 3.5mm headphone on the way
I have been privileged to receive some pretty interesting rumours recently, and this one is certainly right up there.
The information, that comes from an Australian telco source, state that, just like the Telus and Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2, the version coming to Australia (that carrier at least) will have a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Of course it only makes sense that all HTC’s later devices have 3.5mm headphone jacks, but this will make European owners of existing devices likely feel pretty bad.
Apparently that Touch Pro 2 will have a major emphasis on location awareness, for example profiles which can be linked to GPS co-ordinates and/or cell tower ID. Some of these software features will also come to the Touch Diamond 2.
Our tipster also spoke of a updated version of the HTC Touch HD, but much faster (likely the Firestone?) that will feature a new version of TouchFLo3D.
Of particular interest is that HTC is apparently preparing to open up its Touchflo architecture to a select number of developers, allowing new tabs to be developed, with a development kit is already being seeded.
We can expect all these developments to come to fruition over the next 2 quarters, meaning we don’t have very long to wait to see how these rumours shake out.
Thanks Anonymous tipster!
Recession over already? So says HTC
Maybe not world-wide, but Jack Tong, vice president of Asia business at High Tech Computer is claiming the Asia-Pacific mobile phone market is certainly looking up in Q2 2009.
Based on strong Windows Mobile- and Android-phone sales, HTC projects its Asia-Pacific revenues for the second quarter will improve significantly as compared to the first quarter, Tong stated.
Both the HTC Touch Diamond2 which is set to be released soon, and the HTC Touch Pro 2, which will be released before the end of Q2 2009 is expected to buoy HTC revenue.
Asia-Pacific markets currently contribute over 20% to HTC’s total revenues, trailing Europe’s 39% and North America’s 36%, according to company sources.
