HTC has confirmed an update to Windows Mobile 6.5 for the HTC Touch Diamond 2, Touch Pro 2 and HTC Snap. The update will be provided as a free download from HTC’s website. Whether the software update will be released on October 6th or later is not known yet however, but should not be long after.

GearDiary reviews the Touch Diamond 2
Here at WMPoweruser.com its easy to think of the Touch Diamond 2 as yesterday’s news, but of course the device has not yet reached North America yet, but will eventually, courtesy of AT&T, so it worth it to still keep an eye on this stylish smartphone.
GearDiary has published a review of the unlocked version of the device and seem to be relatively taken.
They liked the styling, found the screen sensitive, found it to be fast and multi-tasking well (our own experience also) and also were very impressed by the new version of TouchFlo3D.
They also lauded the battery life of the device, calling it “the best battery life out of any Windows Mobile handset I’ve tested.” Again, this was our experience also. They found the 5 megapixel camera to be unremarkable, but found their biggest problem was text entry.
Despite liking the performance and the battery life, typing is the biggest problem I found with the Diamond2. The Touch HD doesn’t have a problem with this, as it’s large 3.8” display means the on-screen thumboard is quite big and easy to use, but with the much smaller display on the Diamond2 it becomes quite tricky.
It would seem that the answer to that problem is the Touch Pro2, but I don’t really consider that a solution since the Pro2 is a much bigger, heavier, and expensive device, despite sharing almost the same specifications.
So I’m left in a bit of a pickle. The Diamond2 is a good phone, it is fast, it is small, light and has a gorgeous display, and combined with excellent battery life it is pretty much a winner. However, if you are heavy on the text entry and have sworn off the stylus, then a Touch Pro2 or even a Touch HD may be the better choice.
This is likely the dilemma AT&T buyers will face – a small device for easy pocketability or a gigantic device with arguably the best mobile keyboard ever.

AT&T’s HTC Warhawk Hits FCC

Looks like we might be getting this phone sooner than we thought. We have seen screenshots of leaked ROM images earlier this week, and today Engadget reported this FCC filing for the HTC Touch Diamond 2 (Codename: Topaz) a.k.a. AT&T’s HTC Warhawk. Now, only if we can see the filings for Fortress a.k.a. Touch Pro 2…
AT&T Warhawk (Diamond 2) Theme Leaked, coming with WM 6.5
![]()
We have already, with the 3.5 mm headphone jack on the Telus Touch Pro 2, seen one advanatage to coming later to the market. Now it seems AT&T’s version of the Diamond 2, whenever it comes, will be equipted with Windows Mobile 6.5 from the start.
The Warhawk ROM has been leaked, and is now being torn apart by the ROM cookers. The software is still pretty unstable, but one feature that did not need much tweaking with was the TouchFlo3D 3.5 theme, which is described as unusually attractive for a carrier version.
See the screenshots of the theme in action here.

XV6975 proven not the Verizon HTC Touch Pro 2
In what is proving to be a giddy week of HTC leaks and clues, we have received another titbit of news regarding the recently leaked Verizon XV6975. The user agent profile discovered by Tweakers.nl associated with the device confirms a WVGA screen, but however also insists the device does not have a keyboard.
That excludes the HTC Touch Pro 2, but still leaves a CDMA version of the HTC Touch Diamond 2 or even the HTC Whitestone.
Again, with the torrent of leaks recently, we can expect to know more pretty soon.

T-Mobile UK HTC Diamond 2 (MDA Compact V) now on sale
T-Mobile UK’s sale of HTC’s latest Windows Mobile devices have recently appeared to be a jeopardy, with the HTC Touch Pro 2( MDA Vario V) still missing in action. Fans of keyboard-less devices can however rejoice, as the MDA Compact V has finally hit T-Mobile UK’s virtual shelves.
According to Coolsmartphone, T-Mobile has just received a small shipment of 50 devices, and they are selling like hotcakes.
So if you want a Diamond 2 for a low subsidized price, you better call T-Mobile right now!
HTC Warhawk – AT&T version of HTC Touch Diamond 2 leaked
The Engadget leak train keeps rolling on, and next stop of the AT&T version of the HTC Touch Diamond 2. Not exactly the same device as the European version, this device appears to have a larger 1350 mAh battery and only a 3.2 megapixel camera.
Talking about the camera, the render appears to retain the front-facing camera, but this may simply be an oversight from the compilers of the slide.
The slide makes mention of Windows Mobile 7, suggesting they were from an earlier, happier time when the OS was still expected to arrive in 2009. Either way, according the the old roadmap this Warhawk will launch with Windows Mobile 6.5 and arrive some time in August 2009.

Zoom bar coming to your HTC Touch HD
There is not much difference between the HTC Touch Diamond 2 and the HTC Touch HD (and what is there is mainly towards the HD) but there is one desirable feature the HD certainly lacks – the Zoom bar.
It seems XDA-Developer.com hacker namuk was not going to leave that deficit lie however. He has created some software which turns the 4 keys (phone call start, end, home and back) into a Zoom bar, and has it functioning in in Opera Mobile, the photo application, camera application and Pocket Office. The normal function of the keys can be accessed by a long press on the button.
The software has not been released yet, but the first beta should be available on the 21/5/09. With many Touch HD’s already running the Touch Diamond 2 version of TouchFlo3D this development will make it even harder for buyers to choose between these two great devices.

Another detailed HTC Touch Diamond 2 review
MoDaCo has given the HTC Touch Diamond 2 a good going over, and has published a detailed review.
They conclude:
Final thoughts
While the comparisons to the original Diamond are an obvious angle to view the Touch Diamond2 from, it has to be considered as an independent device. The spec is fantastic, and while it is not equipped with a large internal storage, 8GB microSD cards are cheap now and widely available.
The extent to which HTC have improved TouchFlo3D and delved into Windows Mobile with their customisations is admirable, and second to none. While still provided, the stylus is all but redundant. The interface is quick and responsive, intuitive and a pleasure to use.
The device is comfortable to hold and easy to use with a single hand. The build is sturdy and the design makes it stand out as a high-end, premium handset. It feels in no way tacky or cheap, exactly what we have come to expect from HTCThe good, the bad and the ugly
Good: TouchFlo3D, makes day-to-day use a pleasure.
Bad: The depth of HTCs enhancements are sometimes a little inconsistent.
Ugly: The camera is still poor quality in all but the best lighting conditions.
