New G-Sensor software gets easy GUI
As is usual with these things, the new HTC Diamond 2 ROM has brought with it many software updates which have trickled down, courtesy of XDA-Developers, to older devices.
One such improvement is the new G-sensor accelerometer service, which now allows one to enable rotation of applications by simply adding the windows class to a list in the registry.
While this is a lot simpler than running larger apps like Gsen, and should be more reliable because it does not require any 3rd party apps, finding our the window class of your favourite app is not that simple.
G-Config by makeveral solves this problem by allowing one to add applications to the registry list rather simply. One only need to run the G-Config, remove the stylus and insert it when the app in question is in the foreground. After the app is added to the list G-Config is no longer needed and can be closed.
To download G-Config visit this XDA-Developers thread here.
New TouchFlo3D hack enables easier Program launching
Renowned TouchFlo3D hacker showaco has turned his attention to the Programs tab, and the result is seen in the screen shots above.
The new programs tab either shows ALL your apps as a list or as a scrollable grid of items which I personally feel looks a lot more attractive than HTC’s solution, and has the benefit of being automatically populated.

SE Xperia, HTC Touch Pro receive ROM updates
In near lock-step the current generation’s two leading Windows Mobile sliders have received ROM updates. Both are rather minor, so it may not be worth the disruption of a hard reset, but of course if you are experiencing the problems fixed by the updates it may be worth it.
For the HTC Touch Pro fixes for the following problems provided:
- The display of TouchFLO 3D sometimes may appear cracked.
- When taking a picture, the auto focus function may malfunction in some circumstances.
- In some circumstances, the preview screen will become black after taking picture.
- In some circumstances, the device may hang while loading TouchFLO 3D.
- When hanging up a phone call,
there may be a delay in the display response.
This is a generic ROM available for the following languages: English (Pan Europe and UK), Italian, Dutch, German, French, Finnish, Portuguese and Spain.
For the Sony Ericsson Xperia the update seems to provide minor fixes and speed improvements.

Blackberry Application Suite reviewed
BGR has apparently been sitting on a copy of the Blackberry Application Suite for Windows Mobile, basically a virtualized Blackberry running similar to Styletap, for more than a month now, and have finally delivered their review of the software.
They liked the application, and commended it for being a full OS, with the full complement of applications they expect to find on a Blackberry. Unfortunately the OS being emulated is version 4.2, apparently more at home in 2005 (no HTML e-mal, poor browser) than the more later versions 4.6 and 4.7. To the BGR team that makes the whole venture rather pointless.
The Blackberry side however integrates well with Windows Mobile, with GPS and Bluetooth working perfectly (WIFI not) and SMS being handled on the Blackberry side, while the Windows Mobile dialler is seamlessly accessed on that side.
The software also has the potential of almost completely obscuring Windows Mobile, being able to be set to launch at reboot of your phone, so the owner will never get to appreciate our favourite OS.
To the BGR team, the real potential of the application is the likelihood of an upgrade of the emulated OS to the more recent versions, at which point they expect to make converts of a great number of Windows Mobile users. We think that’s rather unlikely, and we may see many more Blackberry heads gravitating to the great hardware selection offered on the Windows Mobile platform, especially now a layer of pretty has been applied.

Windows Mobile a better Carputer than Windows XP?
Certainly Mr Speedmaster from XDA-Developers thinks so. He replaced his XP-based car computer with one based on his Verizon HTC Touch Pro (with the video-out fixed of course). He reports the following advantages:
I had a carputer (see my other YouTube videos) but the HTC Touch Pro kicks ***.
I was dealing with Road Runner and no album art. The Bluetooth GPS always needed to be re-paired. IGo does not run in Windows XP, etc…..
With the HTC Touch Pro, I have everything I want. I even use Web Video Downloader to download YouTube music videos in mp4 and play them on my phone while I drive.
Certainly its clear that a Windows Mobile phone and its 3rd party software is already optimized for use on the go, and directing the output to a large screen just makes it better.
Read this XDA- Developers thread for more about this hack.
GPS Fix for O2 XDA Serra
As an owner of a HTC Raphael (Fuze in my case), I think that it’s one of the best devices out right now. It gets the job done with so many options for input. Yet it’s not perfect in every manner. One of the complaints on the device is the GPS lagging getting a lock with satellites.
That may now be a problem of the past as HTC has pushed out a GPS fix for the O2 XDA Serra. From what I’ve seen, it’s not a full ROM upgrade so install should be a cinch. GPS Lock-on is reported to occur much faster and in some cases, indoors as well. Click here! to download it.
Thanks to coolsmartphone for the heads-up.
Coming Soon:ROM Upgrade for European Touch Pro?
Having issues with the GPS on your HTC Touch Pro? You know the lag associated with finding your position, then only to find that it is not tracking you in 100% real time. It looks as though Skaryd, an XDA Developers member, has indulged us with some e-mail conversations that have taken place with himself and Dave Montanya of HTC Europe, pointing to a new ROM on the way for the European HTC Touch Pro. Very exciting for anyone on the other side of the pond from yours truly.

The conversation is as follows:
2008/12/31 11:01 (EU team) I understand that some users are having difficulties with a so called lag in the usage of Tomtom and Touch Pro. HTC does not have any upgrades in order to disable the lag of updating the position to the Tomtom application. Tomtom is indeed a third party application and I would therefore recommend you to contact them to see if they have any fixes for the so called lag issue
2009/01/21 16:11 (EU team) Dear Mr. Skaryd I just wanted to get back to you in order to see if you have gotten the GPS working better. I would also like to inform you that there will be a ROM upgrade available in the near future (1.19). Please feel free to get back to us at any time if you have any further questions or queries. Kind Regards Dave Montanya HTC Europe
2009/01/22 07:57 Alexandr Skaryd Hello, i got reply from TomTom, they claim the problem is not on their side, since they and other software producers like iGo etc are getting similar messages from users all over the world. The problem persists, it could be improved with some registry hacking aparently / as claimed on web, but i didnt try those. Anyway good to hear there is a rom update on the way.
2009/01/22 09:06 (EU team) Thank you for your reply, I have personally looked around on forums etc in order to see what the root of the issue is. Some claim that a registry change or a patch to the application (tomtom) will solve the lag issues. It doesn’t seem like there is a universal solution as for now. I, myself is awaiting the new ROM as well for testing with GPS software. Feel free to get back to me if you get any further info. I’ll get back to you if I find a great solution. Kind Regards Dave Montanya HTC Europe
We at wmpoweruser.com are certainly not stating this as a fact, but this proves very promising that a ROM upgrade is in the not so distant future.
What do you think? Is this hard proof that an update is just around the corner? Let us know in the comments.

Solution for Autocorrect and Autocompletion on HTC Devices
Are you missing the traditional Autocorrect and Autocompletion feature on your HTC Touch Pro, Diamond or Touch HD?
Not to worry. Fuze Mobility has posted a nice article on how to get those handy features back to your new HTC device.
The article is quite long but the reward may prove to be invaluable if this is a feature that you will put to good use.
However, as a bonus the author has included a “Cliffs Notes Version” for those of us who are easily distracted. It is as follows:
1) Disable T9 by cab and soft reset
2) either use the Windows keyboard (which is poor for onscreen use) or Happy Tapping (which requires the Default IM cab to be your default input) OR to use the Full QWERTY Keypad (the preset default keyboard) you need to toggle T9 to on (even though T9 was disabled) and to do this toggle it, hit the 123/abc button a few times until it sticks and you’ll get the old style completion/correction with that keyboard
3) to change the autocorrect dictionary find the autocorrect file in your Windows directory and change it using Total Commander (or other registry editor even though this is not in your registry) or DictMgr
This will work for all versions of the Touch Pro, the Diamond and presumably the Touch HD as they all use the same keyboard configuration.
If this is a feature that has been sorely missed since you upgraded to your new HTC handset, take a trip over to Fuze Mobility and give them a big thanks. Read the full article here.
Let us know in the comments if this was of assistance to you.
PocketGravity updated to support the HTC Touch HD
PocketGravity is an innovative piece of software for Windows Mobile phones which allows one to create 2 dimensional objects and then run physics simulations on it. The objects can react to the real world using the G-sensor found in today’s advanced smartphones, and has now been updated to support the HTC Touch HD.
The updated software can be downloaded from this XDA-Developers thread here.
FuzeBerry keeps rolling: v6 with VZ Landscape just around the corner
By now most of us have seen or heard of the FuzeBerry TF3D theme by MobileMatt, a.k.a. XDA Developers member, mchapman007. It looks like Matt has been diligently putting his talents to work on his latest release of this theme.
This newest version will allow the user to scroll with TouchFlo3D in Landscape as easily as in Portrait mode. Cool, dont you think?
V6 is still in the beta stage, however I am sure it wont be long before all the bug fixes take place and this theme is running as smooth as silk.
Personally, I am not a huge fan of the Blackberry icons, but the idea of running TF3D on my Fuze in Landscape definitely gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.
So does this appeal to your taste, or not so much? Run on over to the comments and give us your take.

Get ready to rumble
It looks as though we have a brawl on our hands. Over at Engadget, four Windows Mobile handsets had a disagreement and decided to duke it out.
Those devices involved in the altercation include the Sony Ericsson X1 and three HTC Touch Pro variants, the AT&T Fuze, the Sprint Touch Pro and the Verizon Touch Pro.
Although we are not 100% certain who came out of this the undisputed champion (this may be determined by who your carrier is and a bit of personal preference), it looks as though the Fuze by AT&T may have the least amount cuts, bruises and wounds that need to be licked.
Let us know who you want fighting in your corner in the comments.

New Commerical G-Sensor game – Marble Worlds 2

Marble World is a version of “guide the ball down the hill“- game which has been around since the ZX Spectrum. Whats different these days is that we are not controlling the ball with our joystick anymore.
Marble Worlds 2 is only the second commercial game I know of that uses the G-sensor, the other being Resco Bubbles.
In Marble World 2 you guide your Marble through the isometric 3D scenery of Marble Worlds collecting gems and solving puzzles as you go. The game is large and you can explore one hundred play areas across 5 different themed worlds.
Use features such as bounce pads, air blowers, jet holes and exploding bombs whilst avoiding the evil marbles. Marble Worlds is a highly addictive and playable challenge, and hours of fun.
The game now features full touch screen control and but also supports the accelerometer on the HTC Diamond series devices. I have tried it successfully on the HTC Touch HD, where it gives an amazing giant-screen experience. Improvements over Marble World 1 include a new gaming engine which now supports more detailed graphics, an updates user interface, and many additional new features.
Touch screen control- Accelerometer (tilt control)
- Air Blowers to float on
- Rebounders to bounce off extra fast
- Trampolines to bounce extra high
- Energy draining water
- Slippery Ice
- Switches and changing scenery
- Bombs and exploding blocks
- Bridges to cross gaps and chasms
- See through fences and glass panels
- Jet holes to propel your marble sky high
- Portals to warp from one place to another
- Evil marbles that zap your strength
- Checkpoints and save game feature
- Popup hints to aid puzzle solving
- Practice level feature
- High score table!
The game is on sale for $14.95/£9.95. While this is well within the range of most Windows Mobile games a rather contentious issue is that 4Pocket sells the same game for the iPhone for only $2.99 with essentially the same content.
We hope to have a full video review later.
Read more about the game at 4Pocket.com.
