HTC Twin hits bluetooth certification
The Bluetooth SIG has once again delivered, confirming that the HTC Twin, a mid-range Windows Mobile handset, is nearing market.
The Twin is set to feature a 2.8-inch screen which is either VGA or QVGA, both CDMA and GSM and a 3.1 megapixel camera.
The device has also been rumoured to be HTC’s first official Windows Mobile 6.5 device and destined for China Telecom, although with WM 6.5 likely delayed all the way to October one does wonder whether this has pushed back HTC’s release schedule.
First official WM 6.5 device launching in July
Here’s a nice bit of good news. It has been speculated recently that the earliest we will see Windows Mobile 6.5 devices would be in Q4 2009, even around November. It now seems that time table has accelerated, and we may see the first device to launch with Windows Mobile 6.5 in less than 2 months, in July 2009.
The smartphone would be a Chinese device branded by Dopod, a subsidiary of HTC, and would be pretty well specified. The Tachi, (AKA Twin from our HTC Roadmap leak from January this year) will have dual radio’s (CDMA and GSM) and a VGA screen.
The full specs are:
This news is pretty good, and one can only hope all devices launched after July this year will come with WM 6.5 build in from the start.

HTC’s 2009 line-up – now with more nVidia Tegra
It seems we will soon know exactly how many screws hold together HTC’s 2009 smartphones. FuzeMobility has just come across a spreadsheet listing some more details and some new code names we have not heard mentioned before.
New to us are the Star, Superstar, Tachi, Chief and Captain.

The Captain is a Windows Mobile 6.1 Smartphone with a QVGA screen, likely similar to the Cedar and Willow.
The Chief W is also a Windows Mobile 6.1 Smartphone with a QVGA screen. The W designation indicated a World phone, ie dual CDMA and GSM. Chief and Captain may be older code names for the Cedar and Willow.
Tachi is a Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional device with a 2.8 inch VGA screen. Likely the last generation of Windows Mobile 6.1 devices, it seems to be the device known until now as the HTC Twin.
The Star is likely to be the HTC Firestone.
The Superstar however is the real mystery, and the only device which can not be identified from the known specs. The Nvidia AP16 chipset is likely referring to nVidia APX Tegra platform, which I am sure it very encouraging news to us enthusiasts disappointed by Qualcomm. The 3.7 inch WVGA screen near guarantees a media-focused device, which is something I think very many of us are waiting for.
See FuzeMobility for more info.

New HTC handset for Verizon shows up on certification site
We are always working for our readers, trying to find the smallest clues for HTC’s future plans.
One such clue just popped up – certification at the GSM Global Certification Forum for a new HTC handset, the HTC XV6175.
We know its Verizon, because the XV nomenclature is the one they use for all their HTC smartphones. That does leave a mystery – Verizon is obviously not GSM, so a device which works on the GSM 850,900, 1800 and 1900 bands wont do them much good. Of course it could be a dual GSM and CDMA\EVDO device, which again is suggested by the lack of any 3G connectivity in the certification.
Unusually this year we have access to HTC’s full 2009 line-up, so we can pick and chose amongst the devices to see which one best fits the bill.
The HTC Twin, which is CDMA and GSM. The other rumours however suggest this device is not destined for Verizon.
Next we have the HTC Whitestone W, which is supposed to come to Verizon, but only in September. It however is a good candidate.

Lastly is the HTC Cedar. This Maple-like Windows Mobile Standard device has not been rumoured to be dual GSM and CDMA, but it certainly was aimed at Verizon. The low number XV 6175 (the Mogul was XV 6800) suggests to me a lower-end device, which the Cedar certainly is.
So, unfortunately, I would suggest, between the 3, the Cedar is most likely, but the WhiteStone is a much less likely possibility, which might cheer people up a bit.

HTC Leak 2009 part 2 – the details!
We have just received a tip regarding HTC’s 2009 line-up which includes details on a number of upcoming devices.
First, the exciting ones:

The HTC Whitestone will have a 3.6 inch WVGA screen, 5 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM, run on Windows Mobile 6.1 and have a Qualcomm 7600 processor running at 528 Mhz. The device will have both GSM and EVDO and debut on the Verizon network in September.

The Firestone is a GSM/3G device, the real successor to the HTC Touch HD, and also feature a 3.6 inch WVGA screen, HTC’s first 8 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM/512 MB ROM, run on a Qualcomm 8250 processor at 600 Mhz and be powered by Windows Mobile 6.5.
This powerhouse is expected in August 2009.

Next, the Thoth is clearly the Athena successor. The Thoth feature a 4.8 inch WVGA screen, a 5 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM/512 MB ROM, run on a Qualcomm 8250 processor at 1000 Mhz (!) and be powered by Windows Mobile 6.5.
Expect this device to be announced in September 2009.
Now to less exciting devices.

The Twin is a dual CDMA/GSM device, with a VGA screen, 3.2 megapixel camera, 256 MB RAM/512 MB ROM, run on a Qualcomm 7501A processor at 528 Mhz and also a TI Locosto processor . The Twin is expected to launch July 2009 on China Telecom.
Finally, the Maple.

We have already seen this device, with its 2.4 inch QVGA screen, 2 megapixel camera, and Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard. What’s new is the internal specs. It runs on a Qualcomm, 7225 processor at 528 Mhz, and has 128 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM and is expected in May.

The Cedar is a similar device to the Maple, but for CDMA networks and was meant to debut on Verizon in June, but may have been cancelled.

Good news for T-Mobile USA subscribers is that, besides the Maple which is heading their way in May 2009, they are also getting the HTC Touch Pro 2, code-named Rhodium, around the same time.
