Want eBuddy on Windows Phone? Let the company know

eBuddy is considering supporting Windows Phone 7, but are gauging demand on their website.
They write:
At the moment eBuddy XMS is only available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry. We are considering to support additional operating systems.
Click on the ‘me too’ button below, to give more exposure to your preference to have eBuddy XMS supported on your Windows 7 phone. (Due to Zendesk limitations, you can only do it through your PC browser).
Similar to KIK, the app supports Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, AIM, Hyves, ICQ, Google Talk, MySpace Instant Messenger and Facebook Chat using one interface, and is a pretty popular app with the young uns.
Let your voice be heard on their forum here.
Thanks cPT.cAPSLOCK for the tip.

IM+ updated to Mango in version 1.8
The cross-platform multi-protocol IM app, IM+, has been updated to support Mango.
The app now supports fast app switching and the update also brings some bug fixes.
IM + supports Skype chat, Facebook chat, Google Talk, AIM/AOL/iChat, Yahoo!, ICQ, Jabber, VKontakte, Yandex IM and MySpace, but not Windows Live Messenger, at the request of Microsoft.
The app also supports Tile and Toast notifications and Push-to-Email to allow incoming messages to be forwarded to your email, meaning users are always available even if the app is not running.
IM+ by Shape Services is free and can be found in Marketplace here.

WhatsApp updated–now able to delete that sexting messages

WhatsApp has been updated to version 1.3.2. The update brings general performance improvements and bug fixes, and now also lets one auto-save incoming pictures.
It however also brings one essential feature for a texting platform – the ability to copy or delete a message and delete a message thread by tapping and holding.
WhatsApp is free for the first year but costs $1.99 per year afterwards and can be found in Marketplace here.
Thanks Sonny for the tip.
Kik Mango update awaiting certification
One of the frustrations of the Kik IM app is that it does not support Mango yet.
From their twitter account however we now know their Mango version has already been submitted, and is currently awaiting certification.
The mango update should bring improved performance and fast app switching, both of which will improve the user experience tremendously.
Kik have previously famously said that Windows Phone 7 users, despite their small numbers, exerted a significant halo effect, leading to an increase in their user numbers much out of proportion to the number of Windows Phone 7 users.
Thanks Simon for the tip.
WhatsApp 1.3 coming soon

We have been told that the WhatsApp team will be working on bringing their IM app for Windows Phone 7.5, which is pretty bare bones, up to parity with their apps on the other mobile OSs using a series of small updates.
It seems just such an update is in the works, with our tipster being told that version 1.3 has just been submitted to Marketplace for certification, which means it should hit devices by next week.
Unfortunately WhatsApp did not reveal what’s new, but the last update brought better landscape support and essential bug fixes, like being able to update your contacts list.
Thanks Relief for the tip.
Microsoft/Skype deal to be approved by the EU

Microsoft’s big nemisis in the last few years have been the EU, who have repeatedly pursued anti-trust litigation against the company, famously forcing Microsoft to release a version of Windows without Windows Media Player a few years ago and more recently a browser ballot screen when Windows is installed.
It seems the climate in Europe has however changed, with Brussels set to approve Microsoft’s $8.5 billion purchase of Skype without a second round of investigations or restrictions.
The FT reports that Joaquín Almunia, the EU competition commissioner, is to give the green light to the proposed deal without any remedies, in spite of complaints from would-be rivals over Microsoft “bundling” the software with Windows.
To achieve this outcome Microsoft promises to maintain Skype on other platforms like iOS and Android, and asserted that there are numerous competitive services that prevent Skype users from being locked in.
The deal has already been approved in June by the US Federal Trade Commission.
The approval opens the way for the service to be deeply integrated into Windows Phone 7 and Windows 8, and would double the reach of Microsoft’s own IM services, which currently has more than 300 million active users.

Meebo Mobile web app now works with IE9 Mobile for Mango
Meebo is a web-based chat client for a huge number of protocols, including Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, AIM, ICQ, MySpaceIM, Facebook Chat, Google Talk, CafeMom and others; and claims 190 million users.
Unfortunately they have never released a client or provided support for Windows phone 7, but with the upgrade to IE9 in Windows Phone 7 Mango this is no longer a problem, as the service appears to be working perfectly.
While the solution is not ideal, as it obviously lacks features from a dedicated client such as off-line notifications, it does cache messages missed when not in the chat window and replays them when you return, and if you just have to chat with your friend who stubbornly clings to Google Talk it does provide a work-around.
To give it a try visit Meebo at meebo.com/mobile here.
Thanks Simbadogg for the tip.
WhatsApp now in Marketplace

We wrote yesterday that WhatsApp will be available in Marketplace within 24 hours, and it seems WhatsApp Inc is as good as their word, as the app has just popped up there.
Searching for the app still does not find it for me, but this link should get you there.
Please note – As far as we know the app will only work on handsets running Mango.

Lync app being released for WP7, other platforms “in the coming weeks”

Kirk Gregersen, senior director for Lync in Microsoft’s Office division, said Lync for Windows Phone 7 is still coming this calendar year.
Lync has been a sleeper hit for Microsoft, seeing rapid enterprise adoption by providing a number of collaborative services, including messaging, videoconferencing, presence, and microblogging.
The next big update is a patch that will allow desktop users to make Internet calls directly from within Lync to any landline or mobile device in collaboration with VoIP specialist Jah Jah. The service will eventually integrate with Skype also.
The Lync client will also be rolling out for Android and iPhone, and will work for both Mango and NoDo handsets
"We want to be where our users are," said Gregersen.

Palringo for WP7 pictured

WPCentral have published some pictures of the upcoming Palringo IM app for Windows Phone 7.
The cross-platform IM app supports Google Talk, AIM, Yahoo! Messenger, Live Messenger, Jabber, ICQ, iChat and Facebook IM and has a very large following.
The developers unfortunately does not seem to have done too good a job on the Metro user interface – hopefully they will look at removing those rounded corners before release.

Confirmation that WhatsApp is coming to Windows Phone 7

So far we have only seen one enigmatic tweet from WhatsApp suggesting their extremely popular IM app was coming to Windows Phone 7.
Now Plaffo.com managed to find an image on their server named teaser.jpg clearly showing the Windows Phone 7 logo.
Despite WhatsApp wanting to tease up I think the cat is now clearly out of the bag.
See the picture on WhatsApp’s server here.
