LG GM730f pops up on FCC with AT&T 3G bands
Not actual confirmation that the device will arrive in US, but the LG GM730F briefly showed up on the FCC with HSDPA on the 850/1900 bands used by AT&T. LG of course already has the poorly received LG Incite on the carrier, hopefully the more compact device will do better. The user manual also makes mention of AT&T services such as MEdia.Net and Video Share, which seems to make the launch likely.
The smartphone features a 5 megapixel camera, WIFI, bluetooth, GPS and an optical D-pad. It is pretty small at 109.8 x 56.5 x 11.9 mm, has a 3 inch WQVGA screen and features LG’s S-class user interface. While the picture shows a front-facing camera this is likely to be removed by the time it ends up on the network.
The FCC documentation was initially available, but seems now to have been removed, but I suspect we will still see the handset pretty soon.

LG puppets, the out takes
Its a slow news day, so how about a bit of humour. LG is using some puppets to promote the new LG GM730, and below is the out takes, when the puppets did not exactly get it right
LG GM730 promotional video makes me laugh, want one
Windows Mobile is not known for its spectacular TV ads, but sometimes you just need to get the right company behind it.
LG seems to be determined to bring Joy to Windows Mobile use, and to let us know all about it. With this LG GM730 advert they at least succeeded in brining a smile, and maybe even make me want to buy a WQVGA phone.

LG S-Class User Interface wins design award

We have seen screenshots and video of LG’s S-class user interface, and while there is no arguing its pretty, many have also complained that it looks cluttered and confusing.
It seems the not everyone agrees, as LG just won an iF Communication Design for the 3D S-Class User Interface featured on the LG Arena. LG wont a Gold in the Product Interfaces category against 1367 other entrants for the UI’s user-friendliness in operation and superiority in design.
“Through recognition from this prestigious organization, LG has once again proven its design expertise and innovation not only in physical appearance but also in user interface,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG will continue to lead with products that enhance the user experience.”
The LG Arena has already sold more than 500 000 devices in 3 months mainly on the strength of the user interface, and the software will be features on the Windows Mobile powered LG-GM730.
LG claims the UI greatly simplifies navigation and makes multimedia features easier to use. By applying 3D effects and transitions, virtual elements look and act more like real, physical objects. Essentially, the S-Class UI acts as one would expect it to, making operation highly intuitive and reducing the learning curve for the user.
LG intends to roll out the UI to all its high-end devices, and to introduce potential customers to the UI LG will launch a global promotional campaign, which allows customers to try S-Class on their PCs. At LG’s website, visitors can download a desktop widget and 3D screen saver, as well as play 3D games. LG’s widget demonstrates how the interface works and offers the same experience as an S-Class equipped phone by duplicating the functionality of the UI. The downloadable screensaver is based on the S-Class UI’s cube layout theme and it is customizable with a variety of animated clocks that include moving and spinning 3D cubes. The software will be available at sclassui.lgmobile.com.
LG is set to be a key Microsoft Windows Mobile partner, with the company pledging to launch 50 Windows Mobile powered handsets over the next 3 years.
LG’s S-class UI demoed on the LG GM730
LG has been showing off its S-Class user interface in its new flagship Windows Mobile phone, the LG GM730.
In this 10 minute video most of the user-interface features are shown off, and while the software looks great, it does to an extent appear let down by the screen sensitivity (or lack of it) and the user interface appears confusing, with many different paradigms in action at the same time.
Is the UI a great innovation or will it actually impede the usability of the phone? Let us know what you think in the comments.
LG announces the LG GM730 at CommunicAsia
LG Electronics today announced the launch of the LG-GM730, its newest handset in LG’s smartphone line with advanced features that are also easy to use. This is the first smartphone to offer the new version of Windows Mobile 6.1, integrated with LG’s advanced 3D S-Class User Interface.
The LG-GM730 was designed for fast and easy operation so users can experience the latest smartphone features without spending too much time or effort with the user manual.
"Users, especially beginners, find smartphones to be too complicated for everyday tasks because of their unfamiliar and complex environments,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “The combination of Windows Mobile and our new S-Class UI will make the LG-GM730 the most functional and easiest to use smartphone ever created. Starting with LG-GM730, we are introducing a new direction for phones that are smart and advanced but at the same time, user-friendly.”
“It’s great to see the extended LG and Microsoft alliance come to fruition with the launch of the stylish LG GM730 smartphone,” said Andy Lees, Senior Vice President, Mobile Communication Business, Microsoft Corp. He also added, “Combining LG’s technology and design leadership with the Windows Mobile platform has resulted in a great phone that will enable consumers to stay connected with people, information and services they care about most.”
Enhanced User Friendly Operation
LG’s S-Class UI is designed to make smartphones easier to use while still delivering the advanced, familiar capabilities of Windows Mobile. Built-around a 3D cube layout, the S-Class UI eliminates nested menus wherever possible, providing more direct access to features and applications. A simple flick of a finger rotates the cube so that any one of its five faces can be accessed instantly.
LG-GM730’s multitasking environment allows users to run a number of applications simultaneously in separate windows without having to stop one task to start another. “Cut and paste” allows users to copy content from the internet and paste it into documents or send it via email.
What makes the S-Class UI and Windows Mobile combination so easy to use is that features and applications on the LG-GM730 are so well integrated. Email, for example, is easier to set up and use because the phone’s schedule and contact lists are connected. This means users can send and receive messages using less key presses than on regular smartphones. Writing and sending an e-mail to an address already in the contact list is just one tap away. Folders from Outlook on home or office computers sync perfectly with the LG-GM730 which means the information on any device is the most current one. Push email means instant notification of incoming messages, eliminating the need to log in manually and check for new mail.
Smartphone Features in Slim and Sleek Packaging
Smartphones are known primarily as tools for business but the LG-GM730 is capable of much more. Networking on the Map Service, a navigation-based social networking service, enables users to see where their friends are while communicating in real time. Advanced multimedia features such as a 5 megapixel camera, MP3 player and numerous action-packed games make this phone a full-featured entertainment device.
The LG-GM730 incorporates LG’s signature style with a slim, seamless profile and smooth, stylish rounded edges. At just 11.9mm and highlighted by an elegant chrome band, this slim handset is the perfect on-the-go device for new as well as experienced smartphone users. Despite its small size, the LG-GM730 still manages to pack in all the essential productivity software with room to spare. This advanced mobile device is available in three colors: Black, Lime and Pale Pink.
The LG-GM730 will be available globally, with its initial launch in Asia this July. The LG-GM730’s launch coincides with the opening of LG Application Store, which expand the capabilities of LG’s smartphones.

LG GM730 UI demoed
We have published videos of the LG GM730 S-class UI before, but this one is of better quality and shows the screen head-on.
The UI continued to impress, mainly due to its depth and varied-ness, and promised to make the LG GM730 a very fun phone.
In fact, LG is pretty certain they have a hit on their hands.

I certainly cant wait to have a play with these devices when they start hitting the market later this year.

LG GM730 UI demo
Talking about nice user interfaces, LG’s GM730’s S-class user interface is pretty tasty. In fact this video from Mobile World Congress is the most extensive demo I have seen yet, and certainly does not show up the device’s WQVGA screen as deficient at all.
See the video on Youtube to see it in HD.
