In an official statement to TMoNews T-Mobile USA confirmed that they will not be releasing the WP 7.8 OS upgrade for the Nokia Lumia 710, writing:
At this time, the Nokia Lumia 710 will not receive the software update. T-Mobile is committed to enhancing customers’ experience with our devices, including providing upgrades to the latest operating systems, and T-Mobile aims to deliver software upgrades when it will provide a better experience for our customers. We’ll share additional information on upgrades for the Nokia Lumia 710 when they are available.
The statement does however suggest it is not a closed case, and that there may be further developments in the future.
If you don’t care about the data on your device you can now find Windows Phone 7.8 ROMs on Navifirm for Nokia’s full range of Windows Phone 7.5 handsets, including the Nokia Lumia Lumia 510, 610, 710, 800 and 900.
The firmware is available for most European countries and APAC variants. It includes Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 updates, but none of Nokia’s exclusive features.
If you are brave and reckless, here is a guide for flashing the firmware. Everyone else should hang on, as the arrival of the software for all devices is a clear sign the software will be pushed out to devices pretty soon.

The above video is not of the best quality, but it is the sentiment which is really what is the most interesting.
In the video we have a UK ex-Android user who has switched to the Nokia Lumia 710 3 months ago and appears to be pretty happy with the handset, with his main complaints apparently that the device is not waterproof, does not come with a built-in stopwatch, and that it overheats. He even finds the camera “amazingâ€.
Windows Phone is of course well known for its high customer satisfaction rates, and his experience matches that of the other regular Windows Phone users I have come across.
Now all that left is to convince all those other smartphone users that they are wasting their time with low-end Android handsets when they would be so much happier with a Windows Phone.
At Tesco these devices benefit from a lot of footfall traffic, especially when deals are promoted at the entrance to the store, thought the image right, which clearly shows an AT&T Nokia Lumia 900 instead of the Lumia 800 may need a bit of correction.
Have any of our readers seen the handsets in store? Let us know below.
Walmart always offer great deals, and the latest is the Nokia Lumia 710, completely commitment free, for $269.96.
Buying the device without contract allows users still locked into contracts to upgrade, and in this case for pretty low cost, and of course also allows buyers to use cheaper pre-paid contracts which pay for themselves pretty quickly.
Nokia is promoting the Nokia Lumia 710 and 800 by offering an "Amazing Money Back Challenge", where customers who buy theLumia 800 or 710 can return it within seven days for a full refund if they aren’t satisfied with it.
To take advantage of the promotion one simply need to visit Nokia India’s Facebook page , enter your contact details, select the store closest to you and wait for a call from them.
Of course to return the handset it needs to be in a very good condition and all the accessories should be present in the box.You can only return the phone to the store from where you’ve purchased it, and if you do return the device you should expect a call from some Nokia representative about feedback.
The promotion should give those who are intimidated by the somewhat high price of these two handsets a chance to see if they are real value for money.
The updates will be coming to the Nokia Lumia 900, Nokia Lumia 710 and Nokia Lumia 610 and add the following features:
- Lumia 900 version 2175.2101.8779.12201: Enhanced sensitivity for proximity sensor performance and improvement to your phone’s screen colours in low light conditions
- Lumia 710 version 1600.3031.8779.12180: Internet sharing (Wi-Fi Hotspot) — Share your phone’s internet connection over Wi-Fi with up to five other devices or computers and Flip to silence — Silence incoming calls by turning your phone face down.
- Lumia 610 version 1066.0000.12201: Enhanced sensitivity for proximity sensor performance and improved sound level for alarm tone during voice calls.
The update will be delivered via the usual Notification and Zune route.
Nokia has begun to roll out an update for the Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 offering a number of enhancements, including some of the newest features of the Windows Phone 7.5 platform. The most notable enhancements in this package include:
Wi-Fi tethering capability added
Flip-to-silence function added
On the Lumia 710, Nokia Drive will be updated to version 2.0, which features offline route planning and navigation, speed limit notifications and an advanced dashboard with recent destinations and details. Lumia 800 users can download Nokia Drive version 2.0 from the Windows Marketplace.
Enhanced imaging performance
The update will be made available over the coming weeks and can be downloaded and installed by performing a Zune update via PC (or Windows Phone Connector for Mac). All owners will receive the update and should connect to Zune regularly to ensure that they have the most up-to-date software.
This update represents part of Nokia’s commitment to ensure a positive Lumia experience, and Nokia expects to bring more enhancements and surprises to Lumia owners in the near future.
Giving an even more definite timescale, Nokia Benelux communication manager Jurgen Thysmans has announced on twitter that the update will be delivered via Zune this weekend. The update is expected to deliver WIFI tethering to Nokia Lumia handsets.
