Desire HD ROM Port Now Available

We usually like to keep our Android news apart from each other but since there was much interest in the previous article, we though we should let you know of this. Just released today by Darkstone, you can finally download and use the Desire HD ROM that was unveiled last week. HTC has been cracking down on the leaked ROM and seemingly asking people to take down the links, but they got it a bit too late since Dark had a go at it.

His port seems to work fast on the video and here is a little information he provided:

HTC Desire HD build for HTC HD2 by darkstone (Beta 2):
Easier to list whats NOT working:
- Camera (app closes itself)
- Ebook reader (E-Books do not open)
- Ringtones (Unable to select a ringtone, get a force close error)
- Video playback from SD card is slow, needs rectifying
- LED Notifications are bizzare, sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t
// Creates a 1gb data.img (takes a long time to make on first boot, be patient. No, the HD2 has not crashed despite what the screen looks like! Wait 10 minutes or so.)
// Don’t worry about FB console not showing, that’s normal
// This shouldn’t really be considered as a build for daily usage, still experimental
// Copy the Android folder to SD card, run CLRCAD.EXE and haret.exe on your HD2
Git diff patches included, Thanks to gauner1986 for sharing his patch (and also correcting my mistake with PPPD alt)!
Thanks to mattc for support!
Thanks to football for the dump!
Thanks to the usual suspects at #htc-linux and #htc-linux-chat!
Kernel Tree: http://www.gitorious.com/linux-on-wi…x_on_wince_htc (Kernel compiled on 19/09/2010 by darkstone)
Diff patches used in the kernel provided are included in the build, found in the /Android/diff/ folder.

So if this all interests you, head over to Xda to talk and download it at his site.

XDAndroid Done For The Build

xdandroid[1]

Well guys this whole month I have not posted much Android news and since I usually limit myself to 5 a month, here is another story. It seems one of the most popular Android porting team is done porting/tweaking for Froyo to HTC devices. In a recent article by Pocketnow, the guys seem to have come as close to perfection as they can and are living it there for now. Their latest version is said to be noticeable faster, smoother, and cuts boot time by a significant number.

Here is the change log:

  • FINAL 17.09.10
    FRX01 by stinebd alt
  • Added full language pack
  • Added Chinese and Japanese IMEs
  • Boot animation speedup (ro.opengles.version=1 sync from upstream)
  • GApps package update (thanks to CyanogenMod)
  • Replace Gallery3D with Gallery, for stability improvement
  • Several changes to enable userland Camera support (from bzo, still needs kernel support)
  • Userland built-in WiFi tethering support for Rhodium (rootfs changes and testing needed)
  • Signed XDAndroid release packages
  • Updated startup configs
  • Using andboot as default root directory

Since all good things have to come to an end… I guess this is over for now and hopefully these guys will return when Android 3.0 is released for more porting.

Headover to XDA and your device’s forum for the download links.

HTC HD2 Already Running Desire HD ROM

It seems they HD2 is faster than some other Android devices at getting ports because in the video above DarkStone has a version running on his HD2. He managed to get this port only 3 days after the original release of the new device. Now it is not the fastest build I have seen on video but I am sure that is why he did not release it yet. I am sure he will improve, enhance, optimize this build so he can upgrade his line of Android builds.

What do you think of the HD2 and its unstoppable ability to keep up with current devices and take everything while still looking cool.

Android On My HD2… Three Days And Counting

20100817193840

Just a few days ago, I wrote this article talking about what a good job HTC did with the HD2. One of the commenter’s called Bug Blatter left a note talking about how awesome Android ran on his device is. After following the link he left in the comment, I found myself running Android on my device regularly.

I have been using it for just about three days now, and wow is it smooth. The porters did a great job, and after a couple of day I can say I am enjoying the time I have with Android. The main reason I like it so much is because I have been addictively playing Need For Speed Shift XboxMobile phoneSecret telling smile ever since I got Android going. The game is very interesting and I am sad Windows Mobile does not have it. Other things that rocks about having my HD2 run Android is the amount of apps I found in the app store, and the speed test app that I can finally use to determine my networks connection.

I am now back on the Windows Mobile side, but I will return tonight to Android just to play a little game and I will return with the comfort knowing all my settings are the same.

20100817193313

One thing about all this. My HD2 was recorded better than just about ever other available Android device. Talk about a moment of happiness. So if any Android owner talks about their phone being faster than mine, ill say… “hay, read the stats, I win”.

Try it out for you HD2

Android On HTC HD2 Video

Having Android on a Windows Phone is as easy as you breaking an iPhone on a simple drop,  but this is a little harder and this video shows you how it all looks at the end. This video posted by the guys at Pocketnow gives you a full demo of the OS running on our well loved HD2. While the build is not as stable as you would like it, you most admit that progress happened pretty fast, and the outcome is not bad.

HTC HD2 Android Port Going Faster Than The Speed Of Love (???)

It’s no question that many people have been asking for an Android port for their HD2, well it seems the Htc_Linux team is giving you it all at a fast speed. If you are not a follower of the leader, you will not know about the progress they have been having. In less than a week they have achieved many things, things that take other porting teams two or more to do. This speed is very surprising because just a little more than a month ago, having Android on the HD2 was impossible.

Here are the most recent achievements.

HTC HD2 Android Video

The Android port for the HTC HD2 has been making news on just about ever site that reports on Windows Mobile news, now this video is here to give you a preview of what you would get if you tried it. The video illustrates the Herat loading, startup, and app loading process of this port. The port is a bit slow, and I say this with experience but that comes from it being one of the first releases.

The port has the new Mario wallpaper that was released on XDA earlier this week, and the main build is Android 2.1.

If you follow the developers, you will know that the development of Android for the HD2 is the fastest in history. Everyday he tweets about the newest updates for the port. Today one of the developers figured out the Wi-Fi connection. Yesterday they figured out all the sensors like G-sensor, ambient light sensor and proximity sensor, don’t forget the compass support. Tomorrow ill bet they will get 3G going, and in two weeks… They should have the GPS support handy.

I will try and get another statement from the developer and how this has all been going for them, and will post it here.

Comment below and tell us what you think of the HDEvo2, and hopefully you will give the port a try. Do not forget to follow the developer to stay up to date on their ports.

HTC HD2 With A little Android

image

I am sure many of you are just counting down till and Android post for the HD2 is available. I know you care because I have constantly seen comments by the readers asking when this would acquire, but here is a little sign of hope. The new partial port was made by an XDA user who managed to boot Herat, and play a 720p video playing on the HD2 with the help of Linux. What does that mean? Well what the video below and see.

Windows 95 Running on Windows Mobile

image

Getting any OS to run on Windows Mobile is not the hardest thing to do, and so now we can boot Windows 95 on the Himalaya. This comes from where every port originates… XDA. One of their member aeroflyluby managed to get this very old OS running on this very old phone.

Now you might wonder why would someone want Windows 95 on their device. Well, why do I drive fast when I could drive the speed limit… because we can. This is not actually a direct Windows port, but its an emulator that allows you to run other OS.

Here are some details:

Hi!

No NYDIOT REQUIRED! NO OTHER CABS

I found somewhere QEMU compiled to windows mobile, and it works well!
You must find somewhere windows 95 (or something else) qemu image and put it in emul/96 folder, then edit cmdline in emul/96 to change name of image
I can’t provide you working windows 95 copy because of warez.
You can also run ReactsOS!
I can’t test it well because my SD card is so corrupted (it can plugout anytime (and on boot too)) but I get into windows 95 loading screen easly

Some result got on my hima

Try Windows 95 Out

HTC HD now running with Android 2.1 and Sense UI

image

The World of Windows Mobile has been compromised by Android. The HTC HD, which was once the best Windows Mobile devices is slowly becoming the best Android ported device. Earlier this week an Android port was made for the HD and that port came with Sense UI and Android 2.1 software. That means if you own an HD and have the newest dual booting system, you can get this going on your device. The files can be found on XDA and remember this is not perfect yet, they are some missing things like:

WM visits Iphone in a clone(A post of untold problems)

iphone-c6Clones are becoming a little more common now in the mobile Smartphone world, and with that gives birth of something that should have never happened, an Iphone clone running Windows Mobile. This is one of the stupidest idea for a cloned phone, I mean if you like the Iphone you mist likely like it for MacOSX, because if you like the look, I think HTC has done a little better with the original HD.

I do not think this phone is even worth the $239.99 that they’re asking for. Since I have a post about it, I should just include the specs. The phone runs Windows Mobile 6.1, has 8GB built it, Wifi, GPS, 3.5inch screen, 256ROM and lastly a 450Mhz Samsung processor. From the specs this phone does not seem too bad compared to other new phones with less ROM memory and not much available memory, but the processor is still slow.

To read more about it visit Ubergizmo, and thanks for the Tip

WM

P.S-For the WM fans that likes to defend WM, read the comments, I think you would like that.

Android Ports for selected Windows Mobile phones

android

Windows Mobile is well know for its versatility, which in this case includes being able to load up other mobile OS’s.  Android porting has been something a lot of Windows Mobile owners have been asking for on their phones and of course, being Windows Mobile, if you want it some-one will provide it.

The most evolved Android port is for the HTC Kaiser AKA the At&t Tilt, but there are many phones, mostly HTC ones, that have a port available for it.  Some examples are  the Fuze/Touch pro, the Diamond,  the HTC HD (which I’ll do a video on a little later), the Vogue, the Polaris  and I heard the Touch Pro2 too, but I have not seen a download link for this yet.

Here are a few links to the most prominent porting efforts.

The HTC Touch HD Android port started a while ago, but for some reason came to a complete standstill.  It has however now come back with a vengeance, and a pretty good implementation is available now.

For more go to this XDA Development thread to get more info.

For info on the Vogue go here.

For information on the original HTC Touch Pro and HTC Touch Diamond read more here.

Is there any port efforts you want to bring to our attention?  Let us know below.
