New pictures of ‘new’ Sony Ericsson Windows Phone confirms it is the old one

NokiaWP.net have released some more pictures of their Sony Ericsson Windows Phone prototype, and the pictures confirm the handset is the same as the cancelled device which first leaked in March 2011.
A picture of the device booting up also proves the handset is not running Mango, but an older version of Windows Phone, as it still has the round Windows Phone logo. This should disabuse people of the notion that the device is still under development.
The Sony Ericsson Julie would have been one of the better keyboarded Windows Phone 7 handsets, with 16 GB storage and a reasonable 4 inch screen, which makes it a pity it was never released.
By today’s standards however the handset will at the very least need a thinner form factor.
Sony Ericsson (now just Sony) has just suffered a 20% YoY drop in phone sales in the 4th quarter due to intense competition in the Android sphere, where only Samsung appearing to be doing very well. Maybe it is time for Sony Ericsson to rethink their Android-only strategy.

Pictures Of Sony Ericsson Windows Phone Leak Again, Is It Still The Old One?
CES has come and gone, and predictably, there has been no Windows Phone announcement from Sony Ericsson, who are still sticking to Android as their smartphone platform. But now, new pictures of a Windows Phone device from SE have emerged on NokiaWP, and they show a rather bulky device with the three Back, Start and Search buttons placed unmistakably on the body of the device.
The question is, do they indeed show a new device? The answer seems to be, quite obviously, no. Looking at leaked pictures from March last year, there are striking similarities to be noted: the placement of the “Prototype-Not For Sale” text and the overall shape, size and thickness.
So, without any further screenshots showing things like the software version, we wouldn’t hold our breath for a Windows Phone from Sony Ericsson.

WTH !?! Sony Ericsson still teasing a Windows Phone?

Sony Ericsson Germany has just posted the above picture on their Facebook page. A woman, in a train station, with a black and white information sign behind her.
If this does not scream Metro I don’t know what will.
Combines this with the earlier pictures, filled with ‘tiles’ and the people, who are clearly the hipsters Microsoft likes to advertise to rather than the scruffy layabouts who are the actual Android users, and I will say Sony Ericsson is either toying with our emotions, or they have a Windows Phone on the way.
Of course we did post yesterday that the phone Sony Ericsson was teasing was the Sony Ericsson Nozomi Xperia HD, but this has an entirely different back, with the lens and the flash aligned vertically, while the device pictured above has a very different arrangement.
It would not be out of the realm of possibility for Sony Ericsson to be teasing two completely different devices, one of them running Windows Phone. In fact, it may even be the same device, with the Windows Phone version with the HD screen intended for delivery in Q3 or Q4 2012, as would be the tradition of Sony Ericsson, famous for their extremely long lead times.
What do our readers think? Is Sony Ericsson just winding us up? Let us know below.
Update: No, they are just stealing our cool, as fwaits points out in the comments. See the original picture here from the Xperia Arc ads.
Sony Ericsson Isn’t Going Windows Phone, After All

Seems like Sony Ericsson isn’t preparing a Windows Phone, after all. Two days ago, Sony Ericsson’s Dutch Twitter account tweeted a photo teasing a new phone, and that photo had a lot of tiles buried throughout – possibly hinting at the announcement of a Windows Phone 7 device next week at the Consumer Electronics Show. It was a bit far-fetched, sure, but a nice catch nonetheless.
Unfortunately, the handset maker just put up a new picture on Facebook, part of which you can see above. The interesting – disappointing – bit here is the bottom-right part: It clearly shows a button toggling between camera and video modes, and it’s definitely not the Metro style one as found on Windows Phone 7 devices.
So, it’s just another Android phone. But with marketing budgets of $200 million for the US alone and the launch of new LTE flagship devices from Nokia, HTC and Samsung, Windows Phone will hopefully do fine without Sony Ericsson.
Sony Ericsson teasing a Windows Phone for CES?

WPCentral noticed this picture, tweeted by SonyEricsson.nl, asking:
We are ready to go for interesting news next week … what do you think it could be?
Now Sony Ericsson has made it clear before that they are committed to Android, as recently as October 2011, when their CEO said “At this point I wouldn’t feel comfortable investing in a platform that isn’t as good as the one that we currently use. Therefore we have remained with Android, but I am quite curious about Windows Phone”.
Maybe their curiosity got the better of them, because WPCentral noted the curious tile theme to the picture, and other commenters have noticed the 4 people in the picture are dressed in the Windows Phone colours, as can be seen in our our logo.
Maybe WPCentral is reaching quite a bit, but we are sure to find out pretty soon.
Sony Ericsson Still Open On Making Windows Phones
Sony Ericsson CEO recently said that Windows Phone is still under consideration for making devices. Since the launch of Windows Phone 7, SE is oscillating their thoughts on Windows Phones. In their conference call during their quarterly results last week, Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg said that
"For the moment, we see Android as a better choice for us. We have not closed the door [on Windows Phones]."
"we have seen some tablet version of Windows 8, and it looks interesting."
For now, however, Windows Phone needs some improvements in "a number of services and applications," .
I think Sony Ericsson should make its decision soon and focus on their clear strategy as their sales numbers are dipping vary fast. In the USA, sales fell 45 % compared with the year-ago quarter, with year-to-date US sales falling 28 %. They are also planning to shift their entire portfolio of devices to smartphones in 2012.

Sony Ericsson disses Windows Phone 7, says it “isn’t as good” as Android
Bert Nordberg, CEO of Sony Ericsson, does not think too much of Windows Phone 7.
Head of the loss-making company, which saw its market share drop from 4.3% 2 years ago to 1.7% this year, spoke in passing about the OS to the Wall Street Journal.
When asked about their willingness to adopt Windows Phone 7, like many other OEMs rather being exclusively Android Bert responded:
Mr. Nordberg: At this point I wouldn’t feel comfortable investing in a platform that isn’t as good as the one that we currently use. Therefore we have remained with Android, but I am quite curious about Windows Phone.
He goes on to explain that Sony Ericsson is always behind with technology such as LTE and Dual Core chipsets because “no guarantee that consumers will buy, just because we develop it” and observed that they over-estimated their chances when it came to dominating the Android market. The company intended to become “the world’s largest maker of Android handsets”, but has so far managed only 11% of the market.
I think if Sony Ericsson does manage to push out a Windows Phone, we will probably not buy is as the company is not quite as good as the companies we use at the moment.

Cancelled Sony Ericsson Julie WP7 handset pops up again

Sony Ericsson was one of the Windows Phone 7 launch partners Microsoft announced at Mobile World Congress 2010, but when it time for handsets to ship in October 2010 the company as nowhere to be seen.
A few handsets did however make it out in the wild however, and we saw one version here. Above is another with a white keyboard, which popped up on a Polish forum. Unlike the last version this one is not functional at all, and the user is looking for a way to flash it with a working ROM.
Internal shots, after the break, show the handset to be sporting 16 GB of ROM, which would have made it one of the few devices so equipped.
Sony Ericsson waiting for Windows Phone to take off before jumping in
At Sony Ericsson’s annual Business Innovations Forum at Stanford yesterday Jan Uddenfeldt, chief technology officer and head of Sony Ericsson Silicon Valley told attendees Android would remain their focus, mentioning they would only produce a Windows Phone 7 handset if the OS takes off.
The struggling company was counting on a series of Android Xperia handsets to triple its US market share. The company only made 11 million Euro profit in the last quarter on 8.1 million handsets shipped.
Sony Ericsson was originally a Windows phone 7 launch partner, and prototype handsets by the company has been leaked, but it appears the OEM will sit out the Windows Phone 7 revolution at least for now.

Concept Sony Ericsson Xperia WP7 Phone looks really cool as usual
Victor Cao from Vietnam created the Sony Ericsson Xperia Leon concept phone running Windows Phone OS.
As usual with devices that owe more to desire than reality the specs are out of the world, including a 1080p screen and 1800 mAh battery in a paper-thin device, but then we can always dream, cant we

More pictures of the supposed Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 prototype handset has popped up on a Chinese blog, clearly taken at the same session as the first leaked picture. These show a device clearly labelled as a prototype not for sale, and shows an attractive, large-screened and relatively thin slider.
The UI is clearly from a very old build of Windows Phone 7, and it has been suggested by some of our readers that this may be a scrapped handset after Microsoft and Sony Ericsson could not come to an agreement around Xbox Live after Mobile World Congress 2010. Sony Ericsson was after all one of the announced launch partners at the time.
In fact we have a report from June 2010 of a device called the Sony Ericsson Julie, which was said to feature a 4 inch screen like the SE X10, a sliding QWERTY keyboard and a 1 Ghz processor, standard for the Windows Phone 7 platform.
On the other hand we have had recent reports that Sony Ericsson is still working on a Windows Phone 7 handset, and what would be easier than to resurrect a mothballed project?

Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 prototype leaked, or a great photoshop?

The device above looks a lot like the Sony Ericsson X10
Looked what just popped up on Esato’s forums! The device above appears to be the first real photo of a Sony Ericsson Windows phone 7 handset, and at first glance appears very convincing, featuring the3 right keys in front, and even on the 4 row keyboard I note the accurate placement of the mandatory smilie key.
However Sony Ericsson fans are notorious photoshoppists and hoaxters, and the device does also bear a striking resemblance to the SE X10, so I am not willing to say for sure that this is a real device.
If it is however, and even if its simply a repurposed X10, it does appear significantly thinner than the sliders we have seen so far, which is certainly an improvement.

Digitimes: Sony Ericsson has "Windows Phone 7 devices … in the pipeline"
We have heard recently that Sony Ericsson has not decided yet whether to support Microsoft’s new mobile OS.
It seems that decision may have been made, with Digitimes reporting that, beyond the company’s Android focus, they are also in the process of developing a Windows phone 7 handset.
They write:
With good news from Sony Ericsson, Taiwan handset and component makers are now more confident with orders from the phone vendor. Sony Ericsson products in 2011 will have an entertainment theme, and will mainly support Android but Windows Phone 7 (WP7) devices are also in the pipeline, according to sources from Taiwan-based handset makers. Sony Ericsson will leverage Sony’s technological resources and brand equity in the Bravia TV series and PSP game console to create new selling points for its handsets, the sources noted.
Sony Ericsson was famously one of the announced launch partners at Mobile World Congress 2010, but has so far sat out the launch cycle. The company has however said they would release a Windows phone 7 handset in 2011, and if we believe the Digitimes rumour it may already be in the works
