Toshiba TG01 with with Windows Phone 7 now on sale on eBay

A few weeks ago we posted about the Toshiba TG01 running Windows phone 7 surfacing in Ireland.
Now the handset has popped up on eBay, I suspect largely for those interested in collecting Windows Phone 7 memorabilia.
Interestingly the seller says the device has a resistive screen which suggests capacitive screens are not absolutely necessary for Windows Phone 7.
It is the seller, ebrooks1981’s first item however, and the associated pictures does not include any new content, so of course any interested buyers should be careful to verify that the device is in fact real and in possession of the seller.
See the eBay auction here.
Thanks Steve for the tip.
Collectors item Toshiba TG01 running Windows Phone 7 for sale
WP7TG01 on XDA-Developers is offering a one off a kind device – a Toshiba TG01 running Windows Phone 7.
We have seen this handset show up a few times in various logs, so we know it is possible, but of course no ROMs have leaked so far.
Of course this ROM is not exactly perfect – WP7TG01 reports the camera does not work with this ROM.
Members on XDA-Dev are of course already dreaming of ripping the ROM and distributing it to other devices, but of course to do that some-one still has to buy it.
Interested parties can read more in this XDA-Developers thread here.

Toshiba TG01 running Windows Phone 7 (video)
The HTC HD2 was one of only two 1Ghz Windows Mobile handsets, and has fared much better in the hacking stakes, running ROMS from Windows Phone 7 to the latest Android.
Unfortunately for Toshiba TG01 owners their handset had problems even being updated to the latest build of Windows Mobile.
Now a video has popped up on YouTube showing the phone running the latest version of Windows Phone 7. Of course this is not the first time we have seen this handset running the new OS, with Toshiba showing up repeatedly in our user agent searches before, confirming that the handset was once a development platform for WP7.
Hopefully with the handset showing up on YouTube it will mean a ROM running it will leak it widely soon also, letting all the TG01 and 03 owners join the party too.

CES: Windows Mobile 6.5.3 on the Toshiba TG01 fondled, liked
Phonescoop have published this video showing the Toshiba TG01 running Windows Mobile 6.5.3. Of course the correspondent appears to have mistaken Toshiba’s own keyboard for a new Windows Mobile one, reminding us that we still have to see Microsoft’s effort regarding this.
It is however encouraging to see such a positive response to the changes Microsoft has made, which should bode well for the wider release of devices running the update.
One interesting feature I have not seen before in the drop down notification bar appears to be a search option. Do any of our readers know more about this? Let us know below.
CES: Windows Mobile 6.5.3 handsets spotted at CES
Microsoft has not said much about it, but Windows Mobile 6.5.3 handsets appear to be trickling out despite the official silence surrounding the project.
Neowin spotted two such handsets at Microsoft’s stand at CES, the massive Toshiba TG01 with its 1 Ghz processor and 4.1 inch screen, and the only slightly less demure Pharos Traveler 137.
According to Neowin both devices were running Build 23091.5.3.0.
It is likely we can expect many more handsets running the updated OS being shown of at the upcoming Mobile World Congress.

Toshiba TG01 “strong in … Europe”, coming to Taiwan
With the arrival of the HTC HD2 its easy to forget about the 1 Ghz trailblazer, to Toshiba TG01. Despite its low profile the device, which was one of the first to be demoed with Windows Mobile 6.5, is apparently not doing too poorly.
According to Yasahiro Yamada, general manager for overseas sales and marketing, Toshiba Mobile Communications, sales of the smartphone have been strong in a number of markets in Europe, including the UK, Spain, France, Germany and Italy.
The smartphone has just been announced for some more carriers in Japan, is rumoured for Verizon in USA, and has now been announced for release in Taiwan for around $647.
Toshiba is planning to release more models next year, including QWERTY devices and multi-media products, Yamada said.

CDMA Toshiba TG01 set to arrive on Verizon soon?
PhoneArena has received a hot tip which indicated the Toshiba TG01, CDMA version, is coming to Verizon pretty soon.
The evidence is pretty indirect, and consists of the device showing up on Cellebrite machine, used to transfer information from one handset to another (see the picture above).
The device, when released, will likely be a further indication that the iPhone is not coming to the network.

Toshiba shows off Real time voice translation, Transferjet on TG01
The above video is a cool demonstration of the power of the Snapdragon processor in the Windows Mobile 6.5 Toshiba TG-01. The video taken by Crunchgear at CEATEC Japan shows the device being able to record, analyse and the translate spoken words apparently flawlessly.
If the software, called Toshiba Dynapocket, works as well as demoed it would be an invaluable tool to tourists or business travellers.
Also on show was Toshiba’s Transferjet technology, which allows high speed data transfer at up to 20 MBit/sec simply by touching objects, as in this example a photo between the TG01 and a notebook.
Flash 10.1 demoed on the Toshiba TG01
Adobe has demoed it hardware accelerated Flash 10.1 on the Toshiba TG01. The software appears to function pretty smoothly, and makes IE 6 for Windows Mobile look pretty good actually.
Flash Player 10.1 is expected to come to Windows Mobile in beta form before the end of the year.
