mVu Updated To V 0.7.4.0
If you are not lucky enough to own an HTC device with a great Youtube application on it, then this is for you. mVu is a not so new, but still good way to search, stream, and download your favorite YouTube clips. The application is a freeware for Windows Mobile devices, and it comes in a small cap and brings everything to you with just one install and a data connection.
P.S It has some sites support that Apple thought only Android had… *cough* Porn *cough*
Samsung Epix (finally) gets Windows Mobile 6.5 treatment
They say better late than never, and I am sure Samsung Epix owners will grudgingly agree. 9 months after the official release of Windows Mobile 6.5 they have finally released an update to the latest version of Microsoft’s mobile OS (well, if you don’t count WM 6.5.3).
Windows Mobile 6.5 does bring new features, such as improved memory management and greater stability, so I am sure the update is worthwhile, despite the massive delay.
The update can be downloaded here.

Alternative HTC Mondrian Rendering
With all the information being leaked from the WP7 ROM, the name HTC Mondrian has became a big mystery to the Windows Mobile community. We have posted what seemed to be the original images (which if you ask me, it is just a stupid looking HD1 with three buttons) from the leaked ROM, well Pocketnow has a different rendering of the device which to me looks like a silver HTC Incredible(Back cover looks just like it).
I think from what I am seeing so far, someone has been playing, “let’s play the website by making a fake image, and saying it’s leaked” game. Yes, that is a mouthful, but that’s what seems to be happening.
Do you really care much for either of these rendering? Do you think HTC would make something like this? Comment below.
William Gates AKA Big Billy Uses Windows Phones
This is something that you might not call important, but its a little significant. The coolest guy to ever have the pleasure to be MS’s CEO, and the only good one, Bill gates is using his companies device. Pocketnow tipster noticed that in a recent tweet by WG it says he tweeted from Twikini, which we all know is a Windows exclusive application.
Now why is this significant… like mentioned earlier, its not. It is just a little something to keep in mind, while Steve Jobs walks around with his iPhone, Bill Gates is proudly walking around with his Windows Phones. This is a great way to show that he cares at least enough to use the OS, and I am sure his kids are forced to us it, because earlier I remember reading he said no iPhone or Android devices in his house.
That’s neither here or there. I know its something that no one really cares about, but its something good to know.
Two handy Windows Mobile 6.5 lock screen hacks
Pocketnow has published 2 nice hacks for the Windows Mobile 6.5 lock screen slider. The first allows you to position the slider anywhere you want on the screen, and the second allows one to customise the text on the slider.

Microsoft commits to continuing support for Windows Mobile 6.5
Michael Chang, the senior product manager on Windows Phone 7, yesterday committed to keep on supporting Windows Mobile 6.5.
"We will continue to support, ship and sell 6.5," Chang said in an interview at the CTIA Wireless conference. "Windows Phone 7 is a departure and a break at a code level. Doing so wasn’t an easy decision. It’s a tough decision to move away from a platform like Windows Mobile, but one we were willing to make."
Chang said that adding consumer friendly features like multimedia support and rich browsing to its mobile operating system doesn’t mean that Microsoft will abandon its place as a supplier of enterprise handhelds, including some rugged ones.
"We think of this OS as an extension … of our scope," Chang said. "I wouldn’t say we are building a consumer phone at the expense of our heritage [of supporting] work productivity. We are taking that and adding to it features that include entertainment and a focus on a new experience. Windows Mobile was all about productivity, but we had relied on someone else to deliver a great experience. Not anymore."
While Steve Ballmer himself made the same promise at Mobile World Congress, we have heard from many others in the EDD at Microsoft that no further development of Windows Mobile 6.5 will take place, and certainly none of the new features of Windows phone 7 will be back ported.
In the end however, continuing adoption by consumers and enterprise depends as much ongoing development as well as support, and reassurances by Microsoft will likely do little to stop both users and companies looking for an exit strategy.

Some more evidence of a March arrival for the long-awaited Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 Windows Mobile 6.5 update has leaked on PPCGeeks.

Long-awaited Sprint Touch Pro 2 WM 6.5 upgrade finally coming this month
PPCGeeks member platin465 received the Sprint Small Business Catalog which claims that the Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 is finally getting a Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade this month.
The Sprint Touch Pro 2 was one of the first to be released in USA, but has been the slowest to see upgrades, with both Verizon and AT&T seeing new software well before them.
Of course most people who really care probably have a cooked ROM already, don’t they

30 more Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets coming this year
So with the announcement of Windows Phone 7 series, is Windows Mobile 6.5 dead? It better not be, as Microsoft gas said in Barcelona that they expect 30 more Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets to ship globally , with 14 going to Asia in the next 6 months.
They would add to the 30 million installed base of Windows Mobile 6.0 and 6.1 handsets shipped so far.
Some, notably Gizmodo, have said the announcement of Windows Phone 7 series Microsoft has “brutally kneecapped their existing phone software, effectively taking Microsoft out of mobile for the next six months”.
I think however the biggest issue affecting sales of Windows Mobile has been the constant negative propaganda the OS has suffered from big gadget blogs, an ire one do not see directed to ancient operating system such as RIM’s Blackberry OS for example.
Now that the idea that Microsoft’s mobile OS efforts are not relevant are no longer tenantable it should make for an interesting next 6-9 months.
The simple solution for handset OEM’s are of course simply to offer an upgrade path, something hope we will be seeing more off over the next few months.
Meanwhile we expect to hear more about developments to the Windows Mobile 6.x platform soon also.

For Developers: Windows Mobile 6.5.3 SDK pulled? (Updated)
Via a tweet from Arktronic we have just learned that Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 6.5 SDK is now no longer available for download.
On checking the URL where the software used to reside we now only get an error screen.
Arktronic speculates this may be to issues with Visual Studio 2008. While we have not been able to confirm this elsewhere, we can say in our attempts to make the emulator visible in Visual Studio has all ended in failure, so that does seem rather plausible.
We will update this article when more information becomes available.
Update: Official word from the WMDev twitter channel:
Well, that’s one theory
For Developers:Windows Mobile 6.5.3 SDK now finally released
A mere 3 months after the release of the OS, a SDK for Windows Mobile 6.5 has finally been made available by Microsoft.
The SDK provide documentation, sample code, header and library files, emulator images, and tools to Visual Studio that allow developers to build applications for Windows Mobile 6.5. Unfortunately the emulator images show no sign of Windows Mobile 6.5.3, which is rather a shame, meaning the devices expected to be released soon will again initially be unsupported.
The SDK is available in English, German, Chinese, French, Spanish, Italian and Chinese and runs to a download of between 450 and 3700 MB.
Read more at Microsoft here.
Apologies to our readers. After much faffing around I managed to get the images to run on the emulator, and in fact it is Windows Mobile 6.5.3 that has been released.
