Major Fail: Now even Microsoft is calling Windows Phone 7 Windows Mobile

When carriers and Microsoft partners mistakenly call Windows Phone Windows Mobile we always say Microsoft should be a lot more involved in their promotions.
However ignorance can hardly explain why Microsoft Studios missed the memo, and decided to flash back to 2009 with their new initiative – Windows Mobile Wednesdays, “which will highlight a Windows Mobile game we love!”
As a commenter on the page said “Way to go with associating “Windows Phone” with the dead ‘n buried “Windows Mobile“.”
We could not have said it better…
See the page here.
Update: The page has now been pulled, but even better would be to avoid such silly branding issues in the first instance.
Update 2: A corrected version has been posted here.
Xbox LIVE Deal Of The Week : COLLAPSE
COLLAPSE is a little puzzle game where you destroy clusters of three or more blocks to win. This game comes with a great greast play. Under Xbox LIVE Deal of the Week, Collapse will be on sale for $1.99 instead of $2.99.
From our review of this game,
COLLAPSE is very simple, and can practically be played by tapping madly on the screen until you clear everything. However, it also has some more challenging gameplay modes like the Strategy modes, and it presents new Expert goals for each level, giving you unique targets to shoot for when playing. The most important thing about the game is that it’s actually fun to play. Once you get about thirty minutes into the game, you are really drawn into it thanks to the always changing gameplay style. There are boss levels, puzzle levels, double sided levels, and more. There are even upgrades you can buy using points earned from playing the game. It’s an extremely fun and easy to play puzzle game.

Game Review: NFS Hot Pursuit
NFS Hot Pursuit tries to bring the excellent console game to mobile phones…
Overall Score: 2/5
DON’T buy this if you actually like racing games. NFS Hot Pursuit for WP7 will likely bore you to death.
Gameplay: 1/5
In this game, you drive in a relatively straight line 95% of the time, and you never get to take hard corners or juke the cops by going left then right then left on some city side streets. There’s only ONE path in this game… forward. The formula to playing this game is to simply drive as fast as you can. If you’re the cop, you drive fast and hit the racer. If you’re the racer, you drive fast and randomly move away from the cop. However, the cop’s car will magically be faster than yours and somehow accelerate in front of you. There’s hardly any true talent or knowledge of driving a car involved in this game. You don’t even control the gas pedal of your own car. If you could drive down the streets of your choice in a city to avoid cops, this game would actually be decent. Continue reading
Game Review: Z0MB1ES
HE MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!
Overall Score: 3/5
Z0MB1ES lacks enough lasting value to be enjoyable. The visuals are neat and original, but the gameplay is too simple to be entertaining.
Gameplay: 3/5
The main thing holding Z0MB1ES back is its lack of difficulty. The main gameplay mode isn’t that exciting, since you’re simply in a square room. If you look at the survival mode, the game never really progresses. There aren’t any “levels”, and there’s only a select number of rooms that you keep on going in and out of. Enemies don’t become much tougher either. The other mode, Time Viking, is the best mode in the game, since it actually has some neat variation. However, these modes aren’t enough to keep the game very enjoyable compared to other titles. Continue reading

Game Review: Spider Jack
Spider Jack is a fun combination of platforming and problem solving!
Overall Score: 4/5
If it weren’t for the short lasting value and relative easy difficulty, Spider Jack would be perfect!
Gameplay: 4/5
Spider Jack is one of the most entertaining games I have played! The gameplay is unique, exciting, and fun. You face a variety of challenges in the game, forcing you to adapt some new gameplay styles, which makes the game more entertaining. However, collecting all the stars on each level is usually possible on your first try, making the game a little too easy. Otherwise, the gameplay is perfect!
Presentation: 5/5
Spiders are icky… I hate them! Spider Jack’s visual design transforms a disgusting spider into a lovable creature with a fun and joyful personality through excellent use of sound effects and playful visuals. Spider Jack also supports Mango multitasking, has great music, and is visually excellent overall! Continue reading

Xbox Live games indeed coming to other platforms, Microsoft confirms
Okay, we get it. We’ve previously reported on a job listing for developers “to bring the latest and greatest gaming and entertainment experience to mobile platforms including Windows Phone, iOS and other mobile platforms”. And, while many of you are indeed pissed that Microsoft is bringing features previously thought to be Windows Phone 7-exclusive to other smartphone platforms, there’s the argument that extending its own services to other platforms is actually a good thing, as it raises awareness for Microsoft and brings in additional revenue. However, with those huge marketing spendings and the fate of a company relying on the success of Windows Phone, Microsoft certainly isn’t giving up in the mobile business anytime soon.
Anyway, a new report from Inside Mobile Apps has now all but confirmed Microsoft’s intentions, with a company spokesperson saying:
While the Xbox Live experiences and games always work best on the Windows platform, we understand that some Xbox fans may be using other types of devices. To satisfy that need, we are working to extend a few of our Xbox experiences and titles to other platforms.
This certainly is a valid argument, though I personally have some reservations that I will detail in a later editorial. For now, yes, it’s official: Xbox Live games are coming to iOS/Android.

This Week’s Xbox LIVE Title In Windows Phone Marketplace: TextTwist 2

Microsoft announced about Text Twist 2 back in August from Gamescon conference.
TextTwist 2 From Game House, creators of “Bounce Out” and “Collapse!”, comes a more cerebral challenge: How many words can you form in two-and-a-half minutes with a handful of random letters? Figure out the combination with the most letters and move to the next level.
TextTwist 2 will be released in Windows Phone Marketplace tomorrow as the Xbox LIVE title of the week.
