The Telegraph: Microsoft “have a genuine chance at challenging Apple”

Windows Phone 7 has so far impressed most reviewers.

The Telegraph newspaper in UK has had a hands-on with Windows Phone 7, and like many have come away impressed with the OS.

Calling the OS “extremely slick, smooth and attractive”, they note it incorporates “the social networking capabilities of Android … (and) the simplicity and ease of use of the iPhone.”

An objection raised by some have been seeing their phone book overwhelmed by hundreds of facebook contacts.

Hunter Skipworth from the Telegraph however felt however that rather than feeling confusing the phone seems to develop a life of its own, as your contacts change so do the various applications and the home screen. This meant each time he look at the phone it is never quite the same.

He also praised the business potential of the OS, but felt in some ways the OS was so slick and sleek Microsoft risked giving the impression the OS was not suitable for business use.

Lastly, he felt Microsoft’s Chassis system and strict control over the amount of customization OEM’s did would prevent much of the fragmentation seen on the Android platform.

He concludes:

It shouldn’t be long now before we start seeing some of the many manufacturers associated with Windows Phone 7 showing off their handsets. From the looks of it Microsoft have built a genuine contender with Phone 7 and if the release hardware is up to scratch could have a shot at topping iPhone sales at Christmas.

This article shows very good how serious Microsoft is about the Windows Phone 7 launch. I look forward to an exciting fall and holiday season, which will be somehow decisive for Microsoft´s further phone business at whole.

    "well done, Jeeves!"
"And I presume, one can hold the phone while still making phone calls?"
    "Ah, excellent!"

MSFT & You want to see the whole people of the world have a complete universe of Microsoft products — a crappy W7phone, an Xbox, a Zune that should think that way. They/ You think, maybe I want an iPod, an ANDROID, a PS3. Shouldn't everything work together?

    I took Steve ballmer's quote:

It's a strategy where Microsoft can differentiate itself, because it's a strategy that relies on software and services. Those are both things where we have a competitive advantage.

You see what his quotes said? I myself believe that He want to be MSFT GOD above me and all the world. He want the world to bow to him and buy their crappy stuffs like the rrod console, defective Zune Hd, and incompleted Wp7. he makes sure no one sell their own products above him nor his crappy products.

You might have to heard that Zune HD has been consistently outsold by Sandisk.. see where wp7 will be EPIC FAIL AGAIN, AGAIN, AGAIN..

Sorry, I am no longer to BOW to the crappy MSFT anymore..

My advise: never run your own business because you don't understand what a winning formula looks like.

Microsoft's products are among the most interoperable in the industry. Windows Phone 7 will, for example, grab contacts, emails, and calendars from not just Windows Live and Exchange, but also Facebook, Google, and Yahoo. Take Apple you see a stark contrast. If you want the same over-the air syncing of contacts, calendar, and email that Windows Phone 7 provides, you have to fork out for MobileMe (which is still a joke) or work for a company with Exchange.

However, as good as Microsoft are for interoperability now, there is a fine line between "interoperability" and "giving your competitors' products an advantage", which there is no reason for them to do. They're a business, not a charity.

      You again!

"You might have to heard that Zune HD has been consistently outsold by Sandisk." I can tell you have have been on the Engadget site to read this article, http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/07/switched-on-zu… as per usual regarding deluded and warped views, you failed to mention that 98% of the 200 comments so far have been very positive about the Zune platfrom and what it will offer Windows Phone 7.

Why don't just disapear into the ether?

for some unfathomable reason to you, we for the most part happen to like microsoft products. we dont base our buying decisions off of what other people think especially you, and we really dont care if there are "far superior" products on the market, because for various reasons, we dont want them. So call us stupid or whatever you want, but thats just how it works. k?

You're back!! The ever-present google troll!! :) It's funny, you seem to be all in favour of android and google taking over the world, but when it comes to Microsoft you pitch a fit. Can't stand to see ANY positive WP7 news, can you? Don't worry, it wlll all be over very soon when WP7 launches and the world goes mad for it, you can then stop agonizing on how you can try to stop its success and you can convert to WP7, dont worry, we wont tell :D
