TouchXperience demo possibly the coolest interface you ever saw

TouchXperience is a new 3rd party UI being developed that takes full advantage of the hardware in the latest Windows Mobile smartphones, creating a user interface that is pretty amazing.

The software features:
- Any interface can be customized
- Over 100 widgets (clocks, audio player, shortcuts, etc)
- Animated backgrounds (like with Sense 2.5)
- Interactive backgrounds (similar to live wallpapers on the Nexus One)
- Some backgrounds react to lighting, cool day/night reactions
- Access to favorite quick panels via accelerometer and by rotating device
- Messaging interface for emails and texts
- System settings panel
- Easy access to music, videos and recorded TV via an entertainment panel
- Tons of radio links
- Ringtone manager
- Fully featured communications manager
- Explore network computers and connected devices
- Create custom profiles
- Integrated file explorer
- Remotely turn on home devices, like TVs, lights, etc
- Pull up programs or documents with a search bar
- Will find installation (CAB) files for you, so you don’t have to use file explorer
- Remove programs panel
- Built-in shopping list
- Search the Internet by typing in words and clicking desired search engine or directory (Google, Bing, Yahoo, Twitter, Wikipedia, Amazon)

The software is not released yet, but is expected to go into beta soon.

Nice, the development of this UI is finally moving forward. I can't wait to try this out.

Will this be free? I couldn't tell from the website.

Their website has listed G-Navigation app that appears interesting, but I couldnt download it.

It is pretty darn awesome but I wonder how all that interactive stuff affects battery life and speed on a device other than the HD2

    isn't this winmo7? :D
this is… this is really really awesome! I somehow can't believe this is real. But of course it is…

by the way, that's an HD2 isn't it? coz if it's anything less, then this UI is just a miracle :D

I don't think Windows 7 will look anything like that dude O.o Maybe very flashy, but not as insubstantial as this. It doesn't for example, have the Twist interface.

The developer says everything is customizable, so I'm hoping you can change a lot of those backgrounds and turn it into a consistent experience.

    Looks like a children's toy.

WM is for pro use. You want a toy, buy an iPhone.

I agree. At first I was blown away, but the more I looked at it, the more I realized that all the features he is touting are pretty much available on every Windows Phone. They just aren't all wrapped up in the nice 3D UI. And the things added (grocery list, etc) aren't very complex. Some things look like they are going to be slick (file explorer, media player) but ended up looking pretty disappointing and then the video quickly transitioned to the next feature so you didn't notice.

Still, people will pay a premium for a slick UI!! So that's a niche it will fill. Me, I'll stick to MS3. It's got just enough prettiness to be easy on my eyes, but not so much that it keeps from getting to the task I need to complete. When I click on email, I want my damn Pocket Outlook! Not a folding envelope with a truncated view of the message. yes, yes, MS3 has its own preview view like that, but you are'nt required to use it. :-D

Not that impressive to me. It's pretty boring in my opinion, and looks more like a video game than a phone.

  • Fredrik

Sorry, but to me it looks very, very busy and cluttered, copying elements straight from android and HTC Sense. Gives me and instant headache. Just too much of everything.

It looks very pretty and polished compared to many other UI layers. Development is clearly much further along after over a year since I last heard about it. Does it still require you to burn a custom ROM? That was about the stupidest requirement of the "original" TouchXperience is that you had to use his ROM. CDMA? Different language? Different tweaks? Too bad. lol.

Anyway, I'm assuming my old Touch Pro doesn't have the horsepower for this UI, so I will pass. Flashy is nice for a while, but I want function over form.

If this is still a commercial project (last I heard it was), I hope he comes up with his own graphics. Every single icon, background, and even simple things like shading and layers were stolen from Google Android, Microsoft WM and Windows 7, SPB Mobile Shell 3, and HTC Sense/TouchFlo. I didn't see a single piece of original graphic or icon anywhere in the demo. For free, that's fine. For commercial, that's lame.

It sorta feels too over-the-top to me. I mean in that vid you got panels and windows going all over, left, right, up, down. Just way too much. Simple, fast and clean is the way to go IMO.

    well battery life be damned

  • http://intensedebate.com/people/mohsen7x8 mighty

How often do you get hardware acceleration like this in winmo applications? Guys, some of your comments here are IMO too whiny. So you wanna have those crappy UI's that lag in every kind of animation they have?
Even HTC sense can't scroll that smooth in most of the menus, coz the programming is crap. Can't you guys at least praise this for being something that's never been done before?
Some people seem to only care if they like it or not. If not, the thing has to be attacked…

    • http://intensedebate.com/people/mohsen7x8 mighty

And no, I'm not related to the developer in any way

I agree some features are over the top (for instance, animated backgrounds everywhere might waste battery), but the thing is customizable. That is the beauty. Disable what you dont want. There are several key features of this app that I cant wait to use. Use as a start menu (because the start menu for every version of WM including 6.5 just plain sucks), use as a home screen (because the home screen of every version of WM including 6.5 just plain sucks; and I dont like tf3d either), use as a task manager, media player, and maybe some of the other parts depending on what it can do. I can't wait to get a copy and slip the author a hefty donation.
