They kind of already have - by not giving us a 3.5mm jack on the new Diamond 2 or TP2... how many times did they have to ignore our plea's to make sure it was included? Argh.

What you say sounds true, and I don't doubt it. I think the point is, that all of us EXPECTED our next-gen phones to be able to play video back smoothly. Even high quality video. So, whatever technology our phones don't have, that's not an excuse for how poorly they perform currently.

When will you stop comparing two totally different processors?! It's like comparing early c2d to pentium D!!

Asus p565 processor uses xscale WMMX instructions to boost multimedia performance something that qualcomms processor lack (just like any other arm11 CPU).

When will people learn that marvell is so good at video playback only because it uses WMMX!

Even OMAP2 processor would fall in this battle because it has the same ARM11 processor as msm7201. Only with hardware acceleration it could match marvell which is the case with qualcomm processors.

Hardware acceleration by Core Player on Qualcomm has been coming for at least 6 months now (and likely much longer). I dont think it will ever arrive.

It's not CorePlayer, it is the previous and free version of TCPMP with subtitle support. It uses hardware acceleration on Marvell CPUs but not on Qualcomm.

There is a CorePlayer version in development that will support the ATI chip on Qualcomm chipsets (or at least there are rumors on it), then we can compare the two platform's speed.
