Voiceserve’s Vippie Mobile VOIP softphone beats the censors
Voiceserve Inc.’s Voipswitch subsidiary has released a new softphone designed for use on the Windows mobile platform with an embedded VPN tunnel that enables users to send and receive calls from behind VoIP blockades after some countries began blocking IP Telecommunication services.
Examples include the United Arab Emirates carrier Etisalat that employ these restrictive practices designed to prevent users from accessing free overseas phone calls and has recently been found trying to install spyware on every blackberry in the country.
“We have been using the tunnel for almost two years, just months after Etisalat started blocking SIP in UAE,” said Chris Oglaza, CTO of Voiceserve “Now we added it also to our mobile client and thanks to this solution everyone in the UAE can make and receive calls freely.”
The Vippie Softphone also offers SMS support allowing clients to send and receive SMS over SIP.
Other specifications include support of the g729 codec which provides efficient compression saving the bandwidth usage. Combined with the new tunnel the softphone provides results even with weak internet connection, according to Voiceserve.
The Vippie Softphone is offered to VoIP providers directly for download on Windows Mobile phones.
