WhatsApp now in Marketplace

WhatsApp, the very popular and long-awaited group messaging client has now become available in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace.

Unfortunately the app will not install for me yet, saying I do not have permission, but readers can try their luck at this URL here.

Thanks to our anonymous tipster.

Update :

The app is available only to the beta testers. However the XAP file is available for download. If you have a developer unlocked device, you may give it a try. Its just a simple app similar to Kik messenger for now.

Funciona si tienes un móvil con mango y q esté liberado para “developer”. descargas el xap y usas “Appication Deployment” del Windows Phone 7.1 SDK para instalar el xap.

The Marketplace is very strange those days! Many apps unavailable or appearing/disappearing randomly.

Also, I have a problem with updates! Sometimes the live tile shows me that I have some apps update but when I open the MP I found nothing! I have to check all my apps to figure out wich out has been updated!! (funny but it’s really annoying!)

My guess is that the app is only for Mango users cuz now I’m with NoDo and when I open the link i see the app but don’t have an install button and like many other Mango apps ,,, that’s the case and maybe they published the app but made it unusable cuz Mango isn’t official yet, and by that nobody mustn’t have the app (I know for the Mango updates recently but it may be the reason…)

If you search the Marketplace (on NoDo) you cannot find the app, if you open a link you see the app without the install button. The app uses the new APIs (I guess) so it will be available only for Mango users when it’s available for download.

Since it doesn’t show up when you search in Marketplace it’s probably one of those beta apps where you have to get your Live ID (or something?) approved by the developer of the app. It also has just one screen shot that isn’t really showing the app in use, so… it’s probably not completely finished yet. But good to know it’s coming soon!

The reason why it says no permission is because it’s still in private beta testing. That’s the exact error message you get when your Windows Live ID hasn’t been added by the author to the permissions page.

I guess that it’s about time that the makers of WhatsApp come out with some kind of statement. This would be the first program (appart from the AVG fiasco) that has so much problems installing/running for WP7 users, and that doesn’t bode well for the eco system. They should retract it and debug the problem. We waited so long for this app, that a few extra days longer won’t hurt anyone

Come on people, relax a while. It’s not even official on their main site, so this is probably either region limited or a closed beta that the new marketplace supports. When it’s ready for prime time, I’m sure it will not go unnoticed

thanks for the url, it is working in sg…however the notification prompt/display is not working….if u miss the notification sound then most likely u’r going to miss the msg. The live tiles arent working at all. guess they got more testing to be done..tested on HD2 7.5

What should be displayed at the live tile than? Notifications are working fine by me. Though I need to figure out why not all contacts with WhatsApp are in the Favs-list.. and when I click on them in the contacts-list I can only send them an invitation..

Yeah, Notification works here, too. Toast notification, and number of unread msgs on live tile. Unfortunately, I also have those contact problems, and they are really annoying.

Install it from the XAP using developer deployment tool

One problem is that it never updates new contacts, after adding numbers of new contacts, you have to uninstall it and re-deploy it to get new contacts

as far as i can see, the app is free. also, microsoft could and should integrate it into the message hub, buy some stake in the company and ms can do that. but i feel, its only a matter of 2-3 days before both mango and whatspp rolls
