Windows Phone 7 Bing Maps Demoed In Video

No Voice Navigation Demo? That’s pretty much all I Wanted to See

It seems Brandon still has his Windows Phone 7 device in hand because the new video was posted yesterday demoing how Maps behave in WP7. Found on his site Pocketnow, the video shows how you will be enjoying maps with WP7. He covers some menus, searches, navigation (but not voice, but I am quite sure that will be available), and everything else that really matters.

Bing Maps software looks great, and seems to be built better than what Android and iPhone has. I mean with reviews, smooth transition, home screen pinning, and more… They really know how to make a good map experience in a short time (2 years I think, bit truly more like 1 year).

Do you think that is good enough to replace that old TomTom you have in your dashboard or do you already have your other device on there?

One thing I'm worried though is that services like Zune, XBox and Bing are rather "flops" outside of the US…

bing seems to be extremely cool but they do not have nearly as many information for Europe as for example google. Also here in Europe there is no zune player…will we be able to subscribe for a zune pass? we don't know yet….

Microsoft really needs to address the issues outside of the US. Germany for example has 19% windows mobile market share…thats a lot of customers and you cannot bring services to them they can't use to enjoy the full customer experience microsoft is trying to create.

I agree. I'm from Germany and they don't get Bing out of beta here. I hope they will do so upon WP7 launch.
German Bing sucks – most interesting stuff happens when you switch over to US Bing. Even standard stuff like displaying weather doesn't work in the German version. I.e. "Wetter Hamburg" doesn't work – entering "weather Hamburg" works perfectly on the US version

The problem with Microsoft is that they stick too much to the USA. You can get Zune on what? 2/3 countries? How do you want to compete with the iPod if you only sell your Zune in a few countries?
There's a few more products that never really got out of the US and that's basically a big reason why they failed.

Well luckily with this, they dont have to try any harder to push Zune's out in other places… all their phones will have it. Even if there is no Zune pass for other countries… Atleast they will be trying to get that going while still no other OS can off anything like that to you.

What about Europe?

Because Bing maps is maybe Ok in the US, but in Europe it's a real mess.
Not accurate, slow, etc. I never use it.

If Microsoft cannot adapt quickly Zune and Bing for countries outside the US I suppose WP7 will fail there.

In France Bing is absolutely impossible to use and really sucks.
Apparently it's the same in other European countries.
