Windows Phone 7 Browser (IE) Not Ready (I Hope)

Okay, I do not want to say much about this video but wow is this sad. The video pretty much shows the iPhone 3GS man handling the developers version of the Samsung Windows Phone 7 prototype.

This video is a bit stupid because it does not give us any details on the conditions (WiFi, 3G, 2G, or Brain Power) and it also does not say if the devices had previously visited the sites before. Those two things make this video somewhat of a mystery.

There is one other aspect that seems to annoy me about this video. The device used (Samsung prototype) was most likely not optimized or even fully ready for a battle between a product that has been fine tuned and improved to the max. This makes the battle a little unfair but at least you get to know how Windows Phone 7’s speed is, and how bad IE is not ready just yet.

DISCLAIMR: this video was made as a part of a "first view" article that we wrote on windows phone 7. In that article we specifically mentioned that this test was taken using 3G and not WiFi, so some of the gap between the phones can be explained due to connectivity issues. putting that a side, we can also say that? iphone 3gs is a finished product while the windows 7 based samsung device that we test is a developer phone we an os that is still in development.

IE is known to be quite slow. It's not a surprise that Safari is smarter. Don't think it's a true problem. Most of the time, it's unnoticable. Here the problem is amplified by the fact the device & the OS are not optimized at all. This gap will be partially closed in a near future, but you should expect IE still being behind Safari.

actually, engadget said that ie is a hair slower than safari when they tested it. So according to them it wasnt that slow. Of course the product might not be done being optimized yet. Another thing, i heard these prototypes are not running at 1Ghz anyways, just 600Mhz, so the iphone might be clocked faster.

ie is not build for speed anyway, speed sacrifice accuracy ok how about upload file from iphone safari browser its actually is a two different technologies

This slow IE browser is very bad news, but not unexpected.

Sure, it's a developer phone. But Windows Phone 7 is due to be released to manufacture in the next few weeks. The speed differences WILL carry through to the released product.

To make matters worse, there will be no other browser on Windows Phone 7. Microsoft said it will allow other browsers, while at the same time denying other browser vendors access to the essential native code, locking them out.

So, you'd better like this IE, as that is all you will be getting.

More reliable tests have much better results (remember that list of review sites that got test phones?).

Also, you must remember that manufacturers should have by launch (or early 2011, OEMs can be slow) at some phones using Qualcomm's single-core 1.3 GHz processor, dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, and dual-core 1.5 GHz processor. Plus, most (if not all) high-end phones will have 512+ MB of RAM (test units have 256 MB) and some me even have WiMax or LTE connectivity.

We must also remember that the above video doesn't specify what connection type is used (maybe the iPhone was on Wi-Fi while the WP7 device was on 2G/3G) or even if the cache was cleared (he could have viewed it previously on the iPhone, thus speeding up its load time.). You never know.

i have zero tolerance for this BS, and im pretty sure that the majority of users who are on the fence regarding winmo (and dare i say thats almost all of them) dont have any either.

microsoft better be aware of this: either get the browser right, to the point that its not "at least almost as good" as a second generation iphone (youve GOT to be kidding me!), or you take your "no browsers but ours, at least no native code access to the people who other than us know how to code a decent mobile browser" and shove it up your…

goofy animations and a facebook orgy thats cluttering the entire interface while supplying basically nothing more than the decent and subtle HTC sense integration will not make people overlook that one of the core functionalities of that thing sucks. its the BROWSER goddamnit! stop covering your pig in lipstick and adress the issue, for ONCE…!

good thing theres still android and, hey, iphoneOS. say what you will about it: at least their browser doesnt suck.

forgive my ignorance but how exactly do you get a 3G signal on a phone that does not have a service plan with a mobile service provider? previous reviews of the browser were not this bad so wats up?

apples vs oranges comparison. browser performance hinged on connection, site optimization for said browser, RAM, CPU and OS optimization.

all of those tilt towards iPhone at this time obviously.

any MS browser will be scrutinized & unfairly compared by the same iDorks writing the articles and taking videos to rationalize their love for iBrand.

only an iDope would expect WP7 browser to be dreadful (like WM6.5) though
